I'd rather have him, but the amount of carry on has been hilarious. God knows how everyone is going to react when free agency comes in.
I bet we'll be the unsuspecting club that loses players and then whines about how the rule destroys loyalty, is against the spirit of the game etc.

Meanwhile the strong clubs will **** the prom queen.

You know what was the most inevitable thing about GC and GWS coming in?

That we'd be the club left bleating and crying about how unfair it all is.

Shame on every moron poster here who is complaining and our stupid club. You know the rules, deal with it.
We didn't know the rules say Adelaide must not get adequate compensation. There's a reason Hawthorn supporters were very happy with their pick and Adelaide supporters weren't, and no it's not cos we're bleating morons.

Wait, so every poster unhappy with the situation is a moron?

Poor form Carl.

Poor form Carl.

Why the outpouring of posts in the last few hours about the unfairness of the system?

The system has been there for a couple of years. People have had plenty of time to complain about it.

We didn't protect our assets so we got burned. That's what people should be angry about, not because an injury-riddled kid made a wise career move.

Dear Phil

I've just finished reading a fair bit of a major Bigfooty thread all about your decision to move to GWS. It's been an interesting read, during which I have vacillated back and forth on my feelings about your decision.

Some say you have been disloyal to the club that drafted you, gave you your chance, and has been supporting you, financially and in other ways, through your rehab. They have a point.

Others say you can't be blamed for taking your big chance at big $$$, especially when your longevity in the AFL must be under a bit of a cloud. They also have a point.

And you know what? I don't blame you either.

But here's the thing.

I'm not your employer, or your workmate. I'm not your manager, career advisor or a member of your family.

I am a member and supporter of the club you play(ed) for, and I've been one since just about the time you were born. I'm in it for the passion and the excitement and the fun, and I'm one of the people whose membership fees help to pay your wages.

And I do not appreciate being "thanked" for supporting you even as you walk out the door.

So, much as I understand your reasons for leaving, and really I suspect I might have done the same thing in your shoes, and much as I appreciate the views of those on this thread who think it's immature and naive to condemn a professional football player for making the sort of career decision you have...

I still reserve the right to say

F you. :)

You act as if people HAVENT been complaining about the system before now. Its not like people have been generally happy until now, and suddenly discovered that they dont like the rules.

As far as 'plenty of time'- when did you become the enforcer of the appropriate time period to vent displeasure?

Not protecting our assets? We had no real weapon to protect them with. Its akin to blaming a guy with a butter knife for losing a fight with a tank.

Bullshit, Carl.

Who the hell do you think you are to say that??

I'm not one bit happy about it and I resent being classified by you as a moron who deserves shame.

As STO said, poor form.

Yeah, righto so it's just coincidence that today everyone is firing up and we're up to post 6000 about it. Nothing to do with today our unsuspecting CLUB and our unsuspecting FANS having the rug pulled out from under them while we were standing there admiring our culture.

Not protecting our assets? We had no real weapon to protect them with. Its akin to blaming a guy with a butter knife for losing a fight with a tank.
We've got the same weapons as all the other clubs.

Sorry, but you're as naive as the club.

What are you actually angry about?

The explosion of posts today indicates that fans (and the AFC) are less concerned about the rule as they are that we were the ones who got stung.

Protect our assets how Carl? Offer Davis more money? Change the system so GWS and GC can't sign uncontracted players anymore? Neither of those things are or ever were possible at any stage, and you are just reaching to try and find a way to blame the club for this when one doesn't exist. Crap form.

We've got the same weapons as all the other clubs.

No we don't. 2 clubs can currently pay their players much more than we can.

Victorian teams also have the luxury of padded contracts with media roles, and "jobs" with sponsors

As a supporter, i reserve my right to be pissed off about losing a young gun to a shitty expansion club like GWS

How come collingwood managed to sign pendelbery, swan and Thomas (when not if) was the last word on that.

How did they defeat that tank?

What do you think fair compensation is Carl? Or will you just be content with whatever cos them's the rules and we all knew it.

Do what the good clubs do.

Any decent clubs lost a gun with 10 years ahead of him?

Then why isn't our club fighting for equalization ?

People are reacting to a current event. No shit. You get a parchment for noticing that oh great thinker.

Not at all proof that people were previously happy with the rules, and this constitutes a change in opinion, or a stupidity on their behalf. Read the threads on when people suspected various players would leave. They're littered with similiar complaints about the system.

We've got the same weapons as all the other clubs.

And what? We'll be the only club to lose a player?

You know nothing about our performance in relation to the other clubs at retaining our players yet. We've just seen the opening shot.

What we do know is that we couldnt compete in a direct bidding war with GWS. Ive seen no indication that the decision was based on anything but money. You can talk all you want about managing the cap better- the fact remains: they have more money to spend than us.

Try the other 16 clubs.

Victorian teams also have the luxury of padded contracts with media roles, and "jobs" with sponsors
We may as well pack it in then I guess

Err... err... err...

What do you think fair compensation is Carl? Or will you just be content with whatever cos them's the rules and we all knew it.
The compensation isn't fair.

So we should have made every effort to sign up the players we wanted to keep.

Yes, yes... but we did all the little girls cry.

No we didn't. We pay our spuds too much. We keep talented kids who will be targeted by other clubs out of the team at every opportunity. We have jokes as assistant coaches. Our fitness program was crucified after an external review but the same guy is in charge. We're losing fans and losing money. Why would anyone stay?

Sorry, but you're as naive as the club.

The explosion of posts today indicates that fans (and the AFC) are less concerned about the rule as they are that we were the ones who got stung.

Why in hell should I be happy that we will lose Davis for what will be less than fair compensation. Yes, its within the rules, but perhaps it might be fairer to say that only a moron would be happy to be stung by these concessional rules for the 2nd time.

Please yourself, Carl - you're happy with it and I like many others am not.

Do what the good clubs do.

Any decent clubs lost a gun with 10 years ahead of him?

What is that exactly Carl? I wasn't aware that Davis was the first and last uncontracted player to sign for GWS. Have Melbourne done something with Scully that we all missed? Or did the Bulldogs have something up their sleeve with Wood that we didn't pick up on yet? I'd say Harbrow has a few years ahead of him and he went to the GC last year. Haven't heard anyone at Collingwood re-sign to put them out of the window yet despite what Eddie says on the radio.

Has nothing to do with culture and everything to do with money. If we match the GWS offer we'd lose either Vince or Walker as a result and probably one or more other players as well, and you'd be on here complaining about the club yet again.

You know what was the most inevitable thing about GC and GWS coming in?

You and your smart arse posts are really starting to give me the shits big time!!!!

Well said arrowman, well said. :thumbsu:

I think you'll find Carl that soon we won't be the only club bleating. We're just the first of many!

And to my brother morons and our stupid club, lets keep up the fight!

The compensation isn't fair.
It was for Hawthorn. What control did our club have over that?

We all know how the AFL operates and we all know that the Victorian clubs will get better concessions than we will comparatively. Are we allowed to be pissed about that?

People are reacting to a current event. No shit. You get a parchment for noticing that oh great thinker.
People are reacting after the event. Fans and our club. When the rules were devised we were happily cocooned away believing that our most exciting list ever and brilliant culture would overcome and "it'll never happen to us."

We have no concept of market forces.

We don't treat the competition as a dog eat dog world.

We don't exploit opportunities. We get exploited, then complain about it when it's too late.

Not at all proof that people were previously happy with the rules, and this constitutes a change in opinion, or a stupidity on their behalf. Read the threads on when people suspected various players would leave. They're littered with similiar complaints about the system.

We've had one year of three. We are just starting the second.

At this stage us and Cwazy Vossy's Brisbane have been hit the hardest.

The Hawks 'lost' a player they could afford to lose. Even Gablett had already won a Brownlow and two flags and his career was more than half over. They lost Ablett. They didn't lose Selwood.

You watch. The rules are the same for all but it will be the poorly run and poorly prepared clubs who are hit the hardest.

How come collingwood managed to sign pendelbery, swan and Thomas (when not if) was the last word on that.

How did they defeat that tank?

I'll wait until they dont actually lose a player before declaring that they are impervious.

Geelong lost the best player in the competition a year ago after all. Shit club?

And to my brother morons and our stupid club, lets keep up the fight!

Let's see how many good clubs will be bleating.

Us, Brisbane, Melbourne, Port...
