Mohr aint playing and he is on his own as the quality tall defender.

Fair enough

My comment referred mainly to his disposal though....45% and mostly from stop play...terrible turn overs, really hurt his side when they were having a dip.

His contested work is still pretty good to be fair.

Grant, Cordy and Jones only kicked one each, I think at the end of the day he did a pretty good job with only Hombsch and Giles/Folau for support. Not that those three really take much stopping

Disposal wasn't great clearing the ball from defence, but it was clearly a very scrappy game with poor skills from both sides. Even Power, McDonald etc. were hacking it about.

So is he value for money?

Is any player with under 50 games value at 700k per year?

I think he did a reasonable job of shoring up their defence today but they must have been disappointed with his disposal. They were clearly trying to play a possession game and they would have expected much more from him in terms of his ball use.

I honestly dont think we lose that much with Talia as Davis is not showing himself to be anything other than a good contested/defensive player with no creativity. It may come with more experience, just as it may with Talia.

I understand their enthusiasm for a future potential but were they so unable to find willing talent that they were forced to gamble with the likes of an 18 game veteran?

There is a dearth of young key positions backs at the moment. Many of those drafted are mature age options from the state leagues (Silvagni, Markovic, Boumann). Most of the good CHB types have played forwards, meaning there a are few with a defensive skillset. Hence why players like Davis were in short supply.

I think Sheedy and Williams were just so excited at the prospect of having a bunch of kids all mature at the same time that they thought they should poach up a bunch of 18-20 year olds as well, instead of doing the sensible thing and targeting players in the 23-28 age bracket that will actually be in their prime when their 17 year olds mature into AFL players.

Let me put his defensive performance into perspective for you.

Round 1 vs Sydney
Inside 50s: 28 to 71
Result: 5.7.37 to 14.16.100
Opp I50s score %: 36.6

Round 2 vs North Melbourne
Inside 50s: 41-83
Result: 8.6.54 to 28.15.183
Opp I50s score %: 49.4

Round 3 vs West Coast
Inside 50s: 45 to 61
Result: 10.9.69 to 23.12.150
Opp I50s score %: 54.1

Round 4 vs Adelaide
Inside 50s: 35 to 56
Result: 7.8.50 to 13.18.96
Opp I50s score %: 51.8

Round 5 vs Western Bulldogs
Inside 50s: 37 to 62
Result: 9.8.62 to 15.14.104
Opp I50s score %: 41.9

Considering he was surrounded by rookies, and is himself a rookie, this is a decent defensive performance.

For reference, Adelaide's opposition inside 50 score percent across 4 rounds has been: 32.6%, 32%, 63.5%, 42.9%

West Coast: 42.6%, 37.5%, 40.0%, 35.7%

Melbourne: 55.4%, 49.4%, 60.6%, 45.7%, 33.3%

Gold Coast: 52.1%, 57.9%, 50.0%, 38.3%, 59.0%

Obviously GWS have been struggling in all parts of the field, but perhaps their defence is marginally ahead of their midfield and forward line. It's comparable or slightly better than other teams around their position on the ladder.

That's not bad considering how inexperienced their defence is - with Cornes out, Davis might be the only one older than 20. Compared to a midfield boosted by Ward, Scully, Power, McDonald.

And Mohr was out too, their full back. Davis and Hombsch should have been trounced by Jones, Grant, Cordy/Roughead in fine conditions but they weren't. It was more their small defenders lack of ability to defend their man, and ridiculous number of turnovers at ground level that cost them on the scoreboard.

I think GWS will be elated that they've got two very capable bookends in Davis and Cameron. Don't think Talia will get to the same level, and I'm not sure Shaw is the right man for a CHB role due to his physique. Would love to be proven wrong.

weird post from GWS, i assume theyre hoping to find relevance in the modern game / desperate to drum up some support. best of luck to them. as a general observation they have one of the most engaged social media teams in the AFL but i can't imagine what the upside of a post like that is.

It's just a bit from his 78 min doco.

Comments on that were very complimentary to the Crows 🙃

I don’t think anyone had issue with what Harper said at the time, but didn’t we have the presser because of immense public pressure at the time and still being in season?

Why did the Giants post it now?
