And as Ken noted in his presser when we do win them we seem to be very good at stuffing them up.

Was thinking on similar lines myself. IMO Ebert could fill that role and do it well.I think that's because of the set up. It seems that far too often it is up to the inside mids to get to forward, rather than feeding it out to someone on the outside. That's the reason Boak seems to handball to Ollie, who handballs to Ebert, who handballs to Sam Gray and repeat until there is another stoppage.
If it is not that scenario, it is Boak or SGray getting a hacked kick forward, with no precision, because he has no time. The contest is lost (usually by our players all going up or the opposition taking it uncontested) and the all is quickly in the opposition forward line as all our players have followed the hack kick forward.
I think the midfield is really missing a dedicated tagger. A Kornes or Cassisi would play a role in stoppages, often clearing space. I don't have the stats to back this up up my feeling is, while it was in decline earlier, the midfield went into freefall largely when Kornes retired. Boak tried a bit of blocking last night but doesn't really know how to get away with it, hence the free to Biclavs.
Obviously, the other missing links are the skilful outside runners. Hartlett is supposed to do some of that, as is Polec. We see what has happened.
Finally, a bit of shepherding wouldn't go astray. DBJ was one of the only players consistently shepherding last night. It was part of the reason Pittard was ale to play so well.

Portia someone said shepherding. You probably noticed anyway.
It pretty much left when Wilbur didI know I am old fashioned when it comes to this. I must be because we haven't done it consistently for years.

funny you say that..a man introduced himself as a billionaire from the Orient with a girl with a husky voice, didn't know what he meant by Shanghai surpriseJust be realy realy realy sure, Hope, Faith and Destiny are the real deal and don't have 'bits' tucked away
Watching the better sides play, when there opponents start to get a run on they have players capable of knowing what to do to arrest the situation without being told, we seem to lose the plot and when we finally work things out the game is shot.
Blocking and weaving out of contests is such a necessity to get clear and quick clearances. I barely see any of this team think from our players.Portia someone said shepherding. You probably noticed anyway.
Our set ups for takeaways from stoppages have for years been nearly as unfathomable as our kick in strategy.
This is yet another thing I said in the gameday thread: they need a psychologist specialising in trauma. When the opposition gets a run on, they get flashbacks and panic sets in. It is classic PTSD.
Shepherding and talking for your teammates also falls under this idea of 'team work' - we're currently doing very little of these.
Are you talking about the team or the posters?
It's going to be a lesson in how not to play football.Just watching Richmond v Melbourne, it should be a cracker game for us next week, the Tigers play like us.
