In today's press Ken Hinkley is reported as saying, we know the problem. Ken then goes on to say, when other sides step up the intensity and get a run on we are unable to go with them.

That might have been the problem on Saturday when we started well but it hardly explains what happened against the Crows or GWS when when the opposition killed us from the very first bounce.

I think Ken and the coaches believed Lobbe could plug the gap alone this year.
They were proven wrong

They gambled on the CAS decision and the likelihood that if the CAS decision went against us we'd be allowed top up players. They lost on both counts. That's on them.

I know Im missing something here
Whats the significance if the cupcakes?

Haha it's a gif that I've seen a few times on the net, but it is the best parody of it

Basically the dog has been trained to not eat anything and everything and looks like it has ptsd as a result

Notice a show on SBS2 tonight at 11.10pm called, "Shot by Kern".......indeed.

(Btw it looks slightly risqué)
I saw it on the EPG when I looked at what was on and thought along the same lines and if Ken would watch it.

Lobbe won't be dropped. Forget it. He'll play to the season ends and be traded/delisted.
Thats because our list doesnt have a replacement and Ken said he wont throw Billy in the deep end.

I guess technically they stepped up the intensity straight after the first bounce and we didnt

That would be Richard Kern.

(in)famous for a piece of performance art where he lay under the floorboards of a gallery and pulled the pudding while gallery patrons stood above him.

I think Ken deserves to coach out the next two seasons considering the good he has done for the club. What needs to happen for me is basically a cleanout and overhaul of assistants. Nicks is really the only one worth keeping but I can understand Bassett since we've signed him long term. Chad should go too if the Magpies keep performing terribly.

We need to bring in highly regarded AFL assistants. I'd overpay for the best midfield assistant coach out there.

That's Dew.

Pay him $500k and the prospect of senior coach at the Power.

Bassett and Cornes have had 5mins to work with their roles. Surely they need more time to make an impact.

Too early to make the call on Bassett or Cornes. Get rid of both Voss and Hocking, and bring in one tactically minded replacement to coach the midfield. We shouldn't need two midfield coaches, especially ones who are not tactically minded. Not sure about Nicks, although it would be preferable to have an ex forward coaching our forwards. We should be targeting a ruck coach too: someone needs to help our rucks to hone their craft.

I thought about that but it is a different issue because it suggests in at least two games we were not switched on at the start. Against Geelong we were but could not handle their response. In both cases we are playing catch up football because we are letting the opposition dictate the play for long periods of the game. Why can't we dictate the play and have them chase us why are we in a position where we have to respond? Why can't we maintain the pressure or start how we mean to finish?

Maybe we are looking for on field inspiration and leadership?

How did that work for Matty Primus? Poor guy recognised that the list was cooked and spent two years giving the young guys opportunities so as to better the long term prospects of the football club.

In 2012 Matt Thomas, Darren Pfeiffer, Tom Logan, Brett Ebert, David Rodan and Brent Renouf played 79 games between them. All hail Matthew Primus, the great player of youth.

Darren Pfeiffer lol.

not intending any offense to the port crowd (my 2nd fav team) - but i'm not a fan of hinkley's coaching style.

I think he's one of the best/nicest blokes and would be a great 1 on 1 mentor, but as a coach he is simply 'too nice' and 'too close' to the players which is a bad thing.

When you become too 'matey' with the players, your more reluctant to give tough feedback / make tough decisions and be hard on the guys. Same thing happens in job-land where a manager is too friendly with one their subordinates.

I much prefer leadership style of the Scott brothers who you can tell aren't best mates with the players and will be very tough when need be.

Well I guess that's another theory. Something ain't working that's for sure. Bad luck with your injuries, by the way, and hope for good recoveries, hopefully some other blokes will step up too. At the moment it seems both our clubs have had a fair bit of bad luck.

Agree to early to vsll on Bassett

But Im a bit confused
If we bring in someone more tactically astute than our coach in the midfield....
.... shouldn't he be the head coach then ?
Dont assistant coaches just assist and help with drills snd teach what the coach wants done his way
Should we get a smarter forward coach and defensive assistant coach to relegate our coach to inspiring figure head status dropping down to say 20% involvement during the week or something ......shit
Did walsh or Richo meed this much tuition ?

At least that means we would have a good year? Also I think it should be used to draw top assistants in. "Imagine how good it will look in your cv when you come here as an assistant and Port has another revival".
We've had that line for over a decade mate, if we dont get the good strategist in as head coach they will always leave
