I agree with Izak yes, but Jack's performances are ahead of Duursma, Clark, Quaynor and I'd probably argue Rozee, who's played 4 or 5 good games, but then goes missing, at this point too.

Izak really hasn't done anything at AFL level, but Jack's been very solid as a HB. Ave 20 touches and 8 marks last year. Pretty similar numbers to an experienced Brodie Smith.

Worthy of pick 2, not at the moment, but the performances of Izak an Jack couldn't be further apart.

This is a very bad take

Luko has been Lazy, and forget the misleading stats at HB

He fails to do the team round, repeat contests, defend, work hard to be a plus number to a contest, and pressure act's

It's not hard to get a 20 possession game a HB when all your looking to do is get easy receives from you team mates

I would argue that Izak 2-3 four goal games are more valuable to a team compared with a lazy 20 touches of HB, yes Jack has created scores but WOW he has contributed to conceding scores as well.

What they both have in common is being bloody inconsistent, and playing far more poor games then good games

If I was forced to recruit one of the two, Izak for me.... Luko has a Jack Watts type of football underachiever look about him IMO

Rankine’s difficulty is that he’s coming off a contract extension on big bucks signed soon after he was drafted

For whatever reason things haven’t gone swimmingly since then, so it’s easy to imagine the only question is how much of a cut is fair?

That’s never going to be an easy conversation especially if he thinks there’s more money to be had elsewhere. And is there?

He wasn’t playing in defence.
The commentators said that after he got 1 kick in the defensive 50 early in the game. They’re not at the ground though so can’t actually see where players are lining up so like usual are just guessing and making shit up.

He was playing a higher half forward role this week for which he is obviously much better suited.

78% of his disposals were in the front half.
8 inside 50s, 0 rebound 50s
2 goal assists.

Ball in his hands 50 - 80m out is what we need and plays to his strengths.

If he can give 25+ goals whilst being a high level assist provider having 15-20 touches a game in that role it’ll be very positive.

Whilst he’s not had the greatest start to the year.. he is still at 11.7 disposals, 4.7 marks, 1 goal and 1 goal assists / game which is not horrible.

Considering it’s a new role for him. He’s only 21 still. Half the forward line is new. Kings ACL has robbed him of the best inside 50 target. I’m not discouraged.

The contested marking will continue to improve with ongoing physical maturity - he he needs to improve his strength and conviction over loose ground balls too.
So a poor man's Tom Lynch? Of the Adelaide variety.

Have heard that Luko wants to stay up there.
Of course he does! He can continue to be lazy, get his 20 or so disposals and cash in big cheques living on the Gold coast where there is zero accountability for his play.

If he played for either SA team there'd be callers into 5AA calling him soft and lazy every week, because he missed a tackle that lead to an opposition goal.

Nobody on the Gold Coast give two shits if Luko doesn't put in occasionally.

Yes, exactly like a Tom Lynch really.

Still learning the work rate required.. a few barriers to optimal performance in year 1 in the role, but when he has the ball, we often end up scoring.

10+ kicks a game and he’ll influence the game.

Still a fair way to go to become a ‘good’ player in that position but building IMO.

How much is that worth $$$ ?

I don’t know how list managers and agents negotiate.
Give a 2 year contract based on current performance? Or is there an element of projection of future performance
Depends on salary cap situation of course.

Maybe I’m too optimistic but I reckon he’ll get to being a 30-35 goal a year, high goal assists half forward by age 23ish. I’d probably be happy to pay 500k for that.

Pretty sure he is on more now. Not sure what he’ll get with current contract discussions.
Recent publicised extensions at the suns:
Miller got 800 apparently
King 750 - was the contract offer we had in front of him before the injury which we didn’t change.
You’d think luko will be offered fair way south of that.

What do you reckon?

Still don't understand the fascination with these 2 players as neither look convincing as AFL players.

We should be targeting players who we think improve our list & what position they were drafted should be irrelevant.

Maybe a season end swap of fog for rankine. If both then go on to fulfill their pre draft potential i could live with that!!

You’re talking 2 year deal, at $500k?

Wonder how happy he’ll be or happy his teammates will be seeing him get that much

Luko should be looking at Jack Gunston to mould his game on. That's his niche.

He's yet to come close to showing that.
