It's been confirmed that the contract was grossly exaggerated:

So the Vic media pump up the $$$ and years, use it to push up the trade value, use it to attack the player and then shrug and say ‘yeh it was exaggerated’. Classy.

Reid just mentioned he expects Rachele and Rankine rotating through midfield

I'll be honest, whatever the deal is, and whatever his contract is - I'm happy. He is going to be so much fun to watch. Bring on 2023.

Tex, Fog, Rankine, Rachele, McAdam Thilthorpe etc - we are definitely not going to be boring.
IF we can move beyond the slow long and high down the line kicks that is. With this forward line, we need to play fast and get the ball in there as quickly as possible. It will make defences very nervous

It's been confirmed that the contract was grossly exaggerated:

"It’s believed his round 15 game against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval, when he was surrounded by family afterwards in the change rooms, was a turning point in him wanting to go home."

Thanks Ferals

Credit to McGowan, who the whole time said the contract length and dollars were exaggerated.

Don't care what anyone says, I'm personally loving that we're filling our team with quality SA kids again. Not to downplay the importance of some of the gun Vic kids who are a massive part of our team also (Rachelle, Soligo etc..), but I love that we're drawing our young home grown talent in more and more. Massively enhances our identity (for me at least).

Can't wait for 2023

Disappointing we had to use pick 5.

But stoked to have Rankine.

When u look at Rachele, Dawson and Rankine are the three picks we offered North for JHF are we in front?

We seem to be invested much more in next year's draft than in this year's, no issue with pick 5 going if we were unlikely to use it on anyone we would keep from this year's draft.

Reid to Barrett when asked about the 3 year deal instead of the reported 5 years: "Don't believe everything you read"

Barrett: "Well I haven't actually read anything, what are you alluding to?"

How's the ego.
He didn't need to read it, he was writing the shit.

It's nice, but does SA produce enough premium midfield stock to win a premiership?

Pick 5 for Rankine doesn't seem unrealistic to me, but the frustrating part is this is yet another year where our low finish didn't help us. If we had pick 10 instead of pick 5 they would have probably accepted that.
Summed up pretty well really. It's hard to convince them he's not worth $50 and should be $30 when you've got a $50 note hanging out your shirt pocket and no change.

It's probably overs but it's what we had and we don't have the brass that Geelong has to trade it away first and then say "Uh oh spaghettio, no more pick 5!"
