Players don't just move clubs to go home.

Indeed, I'd say in most cases, that's only a small factor in such decisions.
That wasn’t the point, Hardwick and Ralph have reported he wants to come back “home” to Victoria. Apart from boarding there at school and Giant games there he is a NSW boy.

If he wants to go there to be closer to some family and he wants the crowds, money etc fine but let’s not create a false narrative.

Most trades are sold with a false narrative.

Admitting the player(s) are mercenaries and it's usually about the $$$ doesn't sell that well after all.

A false narrative like "we can afford to match Jeremy Cameron's contract?"

I'll see myself out

More the "he's come here for the love of the club and the great future he sees with the setup we have".

It might be true in some cases, but not nearly as often as the tale is told.

Yes how annoying to use a lever to try to restore some balance to a trade of your best player to a strong rival. It’s such a tragedy how that lopsided trade worked out for poor Geelong.

These bloody development clubs are getting far too big for their boots.

So a lie isn't a lie if it benefits you?

Yes I am quite petty. Again, I'll see myself out.

He's an RFA end of next year. I'd rather save the trade capital and bring him in end of next year. Worst case you're trading (which you're doing now anyway) best case you're not. It also gives you 12 months to see what his form is like/ injury situation/ does the club still need to chase a player of his type or has some other option become available or another player come on as a more pressing need.

Still in the do not want to trade for him this year camp.

He won't be available next year as a RFA because if we don't pick him up this year, Geelong will.

Unfortunately you are probably going to miss out on him if you try wait another season.

I think getting both Hopper and Taranto means Dusty is almost certainly leaving Richmond now.

Richmond can't wait, other clubs are into him as well.

I still don't get why there is such a high demand for Hopper, he seems good but not great? But either way, clubs know better than I, especially Richmond and Geelong who are quite good on the recruiting end.

I thought Hardwick was referring to ‘home’ as in the RFC.

Barracked for them as a kid apparently 😉

If Dusty goes to GWS and Richmond pay a sizeable chunk of his salary, that might help them get Hopper and Taranto for 'unders' pick wise?

Maybe for teams in a Window like Geelong and probably Richmond, Hopper would be a good git.

Probably not so much for a rebuilding team though

Gws cant fit dusty in the cap unless richmond pay like 3/4 of his wage and i cant see them doing that. I doubt he leaves richmond.

It is interesting..honestly if i was either geelong or richmond id wait 12 months and if he picks another club now id be ok with that if i was them..but time will tell.
