Yeah it was a disaster not recruiting Dylan Shiel

I'm still waiting for the "Gags is a Dud" crew to come up with any real evidence that his tenure was a disaster.
Posted this on a PM to some other members re Gallagher. I thought he went ok, but thats just my opinion.

We had massive holes in our list and age demographic when he got 5 players in.
2019
Paddy - success to help Roh
Butler - success as a small forward
Howard - success, we had Brown who quit in 2020, Howard is rarely beaten by the monsters
Jones - injury prone and the least successful of the lot
Hill - bady used, if Lyon platys him correctly we will still get value. Not Gallaghers fault how he was used.
2020 Crouch FA. Well negotiated and called Adelaides bluff
Higgins, set to explode by the looks of him.
Alison was a bust selection by the looks.
2021 - NWM. I would have taken Hobbs especially if he want to go home. But he is a quality player. Not difficult to select Windy and Owens but still needed the points to get them.
2022 - went hard at DeGoey, would have had him if we had sacked Ratten earlier I reckon, anyway, trade period ordinary, Cordy, meh but giving away Clark and 9 for 3? If we had Phillipou @ 2 on the board, we would have wasted Clark. Not great
Van Es
Hotton
Keeler all very good choices.
Others like Wood, Wilkie, Sharman have been good mid season choices.

All in all he has been pretty decent, however it is time to move on. Complete the re alignment of the admin.

I've often been dragged over hot coals by my thoughts on Gags.

I've been told many times he is the list manager and not recruiter so he bares no responsibility for who we recruit.

Who knows what his role was at the club, it had something to do with making sure we didn't go over the salary cap.

Anyway he's gone now.

Didn’t mess up the salary cap resulting in a fire sale like Collingwood, GWS and Suns did.

You forgot the most important bit: did all that and returned the club to having all three picks for rounds 1 through 3 for draft 2022 and draft 2023.

He did OK for a guy coming into the role without experience.
Good on him.

Media at the time thought he was a completely left of field appointment.

He didn't mess it up but he also didn't set the world alight with his decisions.

Wonder if he will go back to the business world or pursue a career in AFL back in South Australia.

Will be interesting to see.

And therein lies the problem.

100% agree.

Australian Rules is the biggest sport in the country and our club is employing people who have no experience for that role.

List manager is probably one of the most important roles in the club. They make the decision who they let go and who they let in. He also managed the financial side of things, to how much each player gets paid... if they get a raise or if their contracts are reduced.

I'd hope we only go for people who have experience from now on as the AFL is a multi-billion dollar business.

Part of his job is to ensure the Saints maintains the salary cap. So you would hope the Saints are trying or have on their books a new person.

So nobody should ever get a job unless they have previous experience in the exact job they are going for.

Yup makes total sense:drunk::drunk:
No, But for a position as important as head of list management at AFL level you would hope they would have some experience and not just a mate of the person employing you

His last job was working for the MacQuarie Bank.

We pull him out of total obscurity to manage our playing list. A billion dollar industry and our club has its playing list run by people with "limited" experience for that role.

Yup makes total sense.

Only worth celebrating if we improve with the quality of his successor.

I reckon a particular name would have to be one of the front runners considering his prior experience in the role and relationship with RTB
We’re getting the band back together.

Co-list managers.

Blaming the entire list build without factoring the directive from the club (which nobody seems to have done) is odd I would've thought.

No idea if Gallagher was good enough or not, think it's all just guesswork.

If you look at the list now compared to what he inherited I think he's done a great job. He wants to move back to SA, it's just not a job you can do from interstate. He'll no doubt be picked up by an SA club in my opinion.
