Traded Jason Horne-Francis [to Port Adelaide in multi-club trade]

Are GWS looking to use picks 3, 12, 15, 18 and 19 purely for the draft? Or do they want to get some players in via trade?

Maybe we could upgrade pick 33 or 43 for one those later picks and offer up Byrne-Jones or Bonner?

We genuinely need to trade away a player for 2nd round. Can't see it happening another way.

Hayes, Drew, Bonner, DBJ, Farrell. DBJ with most value in that lot perhaps as an All-Australian and club BnF although he was off it best this year. I know he just resigned but yeah either him or Drew

In all seriousness North have actually done fine out of this deal. So have West Coast. GWS showed up, bent over and handed over the lube to make it work for everyone else, and I salute them for it.
Yeah I think north have done well. What more can you hope for to get for a player that wants out than a similar pick + a future 1st on top. That’s a good deal.

Also west coast, despite people knocking them to get out of pick 2 and the private school vic boys and into hewett territory , whose not far behind, if at all those vic boys plus get another pick. That’s good for them.

Ports given up a lot, but the fact we get future 2nds and 3rds back helps a lot,

In the end rozee butters jhf Bergman sinn to look forward too in our midfield.

I really rate that group of players as a future midfield. High end young talent there.

North should have taken that Adelaide offer last year. Was insanity turning that down.

Same as the CCJ trade I'm content waiting on the last game JHF plays for us to decide on the mental stamina of our list management team.

I honestly don't think quality youngsters is North's biggest issue.

Davis-Uniacke, Thomas, Zurhaar, Taylor, Scott, McKay, JHF etc all have the potential to be that top end core if they're provided with enough solid role players around them. I'm not sure about Powell, Phillips, Mahoney, Xerri, and a few other youngsters making it, but there's plenty to work with in the right system.

North have good young players overseen by a group of senior players that are the definition of mediocre (Todd Goldstein aside, historically)

so when is he suiting up for the side he supported growing up Freo?

Well you would think he would be keen to play with his hero (Fyfe) before the champ retires so i'm guessing 2024 at the latest.

I know you are being sarcastic, but Freo's midfield is stacked as it is, plus they have no trade capital to realistically offer North.

Its not going to happen.

nah, it was just a bit of fun and a reminder that whilst most might think he would be automatic to return to SA if he ever did leave, there are other things out there that might influence his decision where he wants to play. Besides we all like to see Snuffaluphagus get a bit excited as a long suffering Freo supporter;)

While I agree, I really wanted to read Bigfooty if the Eagles finished second and got pick 3.

They Will probably will anyway, with Will Ashcroft projected to be this year's number 1 pick.

Under that, The Eagles would end up with pick 4 lol

If JHF said he wanted to be traded to Adelaide at the end of the season there is no ability of North to decide which players they take from the Crows to facilitate that exchange. The player has to consent.

The Kangaroos just don't agree to it. It's not like he is spending some time away from football for personal reasons. When those articles start to come out then North should be worried they are about to be robbed.
What crap, look at Kelly and west coast, Adelaide have nothing to get him. Rochelle and thillithorpe are their untouchables, no other player is close to worth taking with a top 5 pick.

Port could offer wines, Hayes and a first rounder,

What can the crows offer mcasey, Jones and McHenry, that's what they could offer for Powell, it's not happening.

North have jhf, Stephenson, ldu, Simpkin, Powell, phillips that could be the strongest midfield in 3 years time

Personally don't understand why highly rated first rounders extend so quickly.

I guess it helps them get a pay rise outright, as I assume they can structure their Years 3 & 4 payments to be received in Years 1 & 2, but for someone like JHF, he should back himself in to be a very wanted man by the middle of next season.
First rounders should be on 5 year deals when they get drafted. How can you rebuild by having to pay overs to keep young players or they leave, ruins clubs trying to rebuild properly

I think 3 years is a happy medium. Most draftees play out 4 years a least at their original club. But still gotta have some flexibility if a young player really needs to get out of a certain environment.

Don't draft south australians

A loyal kid could go either way. But if the family
Is in SA, and Dad played for Port. It may prove to be a mistake to draft him. Time will tell and North we’re prepared to take the risk. He is exactly the type of kid you need to build an ailing club. I don’t think North should’ve taken the risk, but I do see why they did, and given the position they are in, if he does stay, it will be defining for their club. I hope he stays. North can build around him, he is hard headed.

No one forced them to take him and they had a number of offers.

Trading their 2nd pick - might look bad too long term, if he walks to south Australia.

North you could argue were in no position to take risks

The only way north snaps out of this 23 year period of nothingness is by getting a few premium elite guys.

JHF was our best opportunity to do that. In that respect it’s better than two very good players. If it is purely is a wait and extract max value for the contract then it’s probably fine.

No one knows how the kids will turn out. As it stands JHF looks like he will be a very very good player as he gets experience and AFL match hardened. Having said that, hypothetically had North taken Adelaide's offer, Rachele equally looks like he will become a star of the comp at some stage and then there was the extra 1st which was an upgrade on North's 2nd and possibly a top 4 pick this year - Lemmey / Tsatsas etc.

I am glad Adelaide didn't get the deal done as that late 1st landed us Dawson, we have Rachele and might also end up with someone like Tsatsas who would be great for our midfield. For north's sake on so many levels, JHF needs to stay there long term.

Of course but my point is he is the best opportunity we have to get elite talent, we needed to take that spot.

Rachelle is great but to me he seems like an electric fwd flank/pocket which is fine but we need premium mids/kpps we won’t be getting a superstar in trade or fa (no one wants to come that’s been proven) So we need to draft one we think could be and hope he lives up to the hype.

Yes making this trade would have effectively netted us an extra mid first round but again I’d take the punt on a potential superstar than potentially two very good players.
The future first was Melbournes so instead of pick 19 we maybe upgraded to pick 18, no real gain (we’d probably get the guy we would have picked anyway.

its likely to be a top 4 pick in this years draft
