Anyone know where/what he’s doing atm.?

Community work?, Travel?, resting at home watching Netflix??

Love to know what his plan is to get his head right. Hasn’t posted anything on social media for months so it’s hard to get a gage on what he’s doing.
Pretty happy if he stays off social media.

I work in government where bullshit reigns and trust me when I say that the mental health card gets used and abused and there is no credibility to the words. They only way forward in gaining respect is by honesty and transparency which often never ever come.

I do however feel for the bloke given his dad passing and cancer scare. Seeing him out wasted, pantless and chewing his jaw off loses the whole credibility side👎

You do realise that people with mental health issues deal with said issues in ways which can be self-destructive.....I wouldn't have thought it a credibility issue at all in this case.

Having cancer isn’t a cancer scare. It’s cancer.

Imagine the prospect of being forced to face your own mortality. Now increase that ten fold by the fact that someone you love has just died, making you acutely aware of the fragility of life itself. Imagine being away from home in a high profile, high performance environment while having to listen to every man and his dog tell you how to act. I’d probably lash out and rebel against the whole world if that was me and I wouldn’t give 2 shits what anyone thinks.

I’m not sure how working in government really qualifies you to weigh in on this. Plenty of people do use mental illness as an excuse but surely Jesse has endured enough to be given the benefit of the doubt?

So we completely allow and enable drug and alcohol use then??

Ever wondered why we got him so cheap??? Then all of a sudden it's mental health?! Really? Don't Insult your intelligence

I'm playing the violin for ya mate.

Man up and get the **** on with life. Your in a pretty good position playing football for a living and getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars, girls throwing themselves at you. Yer it's a horrible life to live.

Bad shit happens everyday to millions of people around the world in far worse positions and guess what they do..

Who said anything about allowing or enabling drug use....bit of an over reaction? I made a generalist statement regarding self destructive behaviour that may/may not be applicable to Jesse. I think we paid a reasonable price (draft pick wise) but only gave a 3 year deal on ok money (his manager wanted 7) because of his mental health issues and prior off field indiscretions. We probably considered Jesse being home would mitigate a number of risks, which may not have proven correct.

Nar.

I think it's just another unthought out decision at a big name such as Croad, Tarrant etc in hope of a 60 goal forward. Our recruitment is still atrocious, but at least we're consistent.

It is becoming all too common in the workplace, not just government or sport

Run to the mental health card

I find it hard to take anything you say on this subject seriously with that avatar.

I think I’ve said it here before, I suffer mental issues, I hid it for years until I broke down in my doctors office. It cost me my job eventually. I now medicate, it seems to have fixed me, I’m totally numb to stuff that concerned me before. I don’t know if that’s good or bad.

Must be hard being so tough.

I've read some average posts as of late and the political thread has been a gold mine for this but this is right up there.

Right up there.

Thanks.

I agree
Pretty easy to sit behind a keyboard and tell someone to toughen up..

Everyone deals with things differently.

Think everyone attacking him need to get off his case.

Hopefully he gets himself right. Weather he plays footy again or not isn’t important at this stage.

His health should be one number in everyone thoughts...

I disagree agree with this. It's a broad statement. I'm sure people are very aware of mental health and the affects of not looking after yourself.

The issue some people have is that Jessie is struggling with mental health issues but it appears that he has done very little to help himself.

If he has been genuinely working through this then I wish him the best. If he choses to binge drink and take drugs then he isn't helping himself and is letting down the club. There are plenty of people in the world who go through hard times and have far less support than him.
There’s a lot of comments on this thread assuming that mentally Jesse is ‘normal’.

He has done very little to help himself? How do any of us know that is true? If he is taking drugs or drinking in excess, is this a way of avoiding his issues? That is no doubt.

The club cannot be with him 100% of the time, so he will fall into bad habits, he has an illness. We have issues at home that pale in insignificance compared the recent fires or world hunger, but it doesn’t mean the issue isn’t massive to the individual!

He’s battling, he’s struggling with life, footballs an occupation for those in the industry but for the fans it’s bigger than that. There needs to be a better understanding of the pressures involved. Nobody is discussing Brian Green the accountant who is struggling at work, who has mental illness.

He’s battling a fear of failure, injury concerns, expectations of hundreds & thousands of supporters, not to mention personal issues dealing with death & cancer as 22 year old in a foreign state.

Have an opinion, that’s what we’re here for, but don’t assume he is ‘normal’, like you.

I’m sorry to hear about your struggle mate. It takes a lot of strength to talk to your doctor and I hope things are starting to turn around for you.

Who said he's normal and who said I'm normal? You are making assumptions

Excessive drinking and taking drugs won't help. That's all I'm saying

You do realise that problematic drug use is defined as a mental health concern.

It is a mental health issue. As soon as it effects your level of functioning and in simple terms significantly gets in the way of what you want in life then we are talking mental health issue.

You're right in that I doesnt help much if you have other mental health issues as well but it is a mental health issue within itself.

Just stop taking drugs if it's screwing your life = just stop being depressed = just stop having a broken leg = just stop having a heart attack.

Not that simple really.

But your assuming that he has the same control over his drinking & potential drug taking as you. You can say no to drugs if needed, but again, you are assuming that he is like you & can say no.

Until you’re in his head, we have to accept he has a problem & doesn’t think like the majority.

Correct. IF I took drugs I would be limited by say, money.. which Jesse had plenty of. I think he takes drugs because he likes to.... And he can!! Furthermore, an employer that will cover for you.

Familiarise yourselves with the AFLs drug policy. It basically let's you get away with it
