Ah Well all remember the great days of 1994-2006 trading a top 5 or top 10 pick for an average player.

More than Happy to tell you the last 2 Occasions that freo traded a top 5 pick and ended up well in the end....

2016: Traded pick 3 to GWS in exchange for Cam McCarthy, Picks 8 (Griffen Logue), Pick 32 (Sean Darcy) and Pick 72 (Luke Ryan)

That does make me feel better, even though pick 3 was Mcluggage and we would have been able to pick up Ryan anyway.

Well well well.... you guys are a miserable Lot are you?

I guess I am the only person that remained with a positive mentality since our rebuild.

I wont bother going into someones mental Health issues. Unless we truly find out whats going on, I am not accusing anyone of anything. Yeah its frustrating when opposition fans sink the boots in Freo and kick us when we are down as the Pack of F***ing dogs that they are.

Heres How I see it.... It seems like another Situtation with Harley Bennell with his calf injury. Just replace Harley Bennell with Jesse Hogan and calf injury with Foot injury.

Seems like there is a Trend here. I am not going to sink the boots Harley Bennells drug and Alcohol Problems. When I look at Harley Bennells 4 injury riddled years at Freo, I wont be suprised if he suffered Mental Health and Depression when he was being constantly injured. The only thing Harley wanted to Do was play footy, Its something he enjoyed.. Yes he got drunk on a plane in the middle of 2016 and was prevented to take that plane. Then you had the other drunk incident in 2017 when he was walking in the field half time during a peel game chatting with one of the other bennell family members playing that day. Yeah it wasnt a good site to see him turn to Alcohol. He didnt hurt anyone. When the whole world is sinking the boots on you and you are powerless to do anything, Life is Hard.

Funny enough his mindset improved and his mental health got better when his body was fit enough to play footy, even though in a lot of games he played at Peel thunder on the average 50% of game time per peel match. But he wasnt lazy, he was willing to work hard and fight back from injury. A lesser human being could of gave up. we knew about his talent. He at least tried his guts out before all hope was gone, its as fans the least we demanded off him. Yes he was delisted but the 2 most important things came when he had a child.....

1. He Slowly turned his off field attitude around.

2. Most importantly he motiavted himself to find himself a better mindset and improve his mental health. So having that baby in the middle of Last year was the best thing happened to him. He now has to take responsibility for the actions he takes. He has to be a role model for his child now. We Saw Walters turned his career around in the middle of 2012. Bennell slowly did the same thing in the middle of 2019.

Hurts to see a talented guy like Harley Bennell being so injury prone. I can sadly say the same thing about Anthony Morabito too.

I got no animosity towards Harley Bennell, I wish him all the best. I wish he played at least 10-20 dockers games in that 4 year period, Rather than 2 games. Plus we got Darcy tucker in that Harely Bennell trade(s).

When I looked at Cam McCarthy and his mental health issues around 2015 and 2016, As a south freo boy, All he wanted to do was head back home in WA. He didnt even play for GWS in 2016 and they made a prelim that year. He didnt sit on his bum, like all those banned Essendon players in 2016, he trained by him self for the whole year and kept fit. So good on him for doing that.

Sure he hasnt played as well as that season he kicked 35 goals for GWS in 2015, But I still see him as a solid player.

When I look at Hogan. I saw him as a talented KPF freo needed back in 2014-5. We tried to get him before Pav retired. I wont be suprised if His Mental health issues is caused by his fathers illness, his recent battle with cancer and that ongoing foot injury.

Again, his mental health and welfare is his priority. Again, He is another Dockers past or present player that has fought or is currently fighting mental health. I wish him all the best.

If it takes half the season to get his mind and Body right and he does a Walters of 2012 and kicks 25 goals in 10 games and helps gets us to finals, then thats fine. If he doesnt play for freo Again, well so be it. At least we got 10-12 Dockers games our of him. His welfare is the priority.

Not trying to sound Bitter, but he isnt the only Key foward we have in our squad.

For Hogan, Regardless what happens from now on, I wish him all the best.

I'm gonna play devils advocate and I'm gonna get torched for this but does anyone else just think Jessie had a big Australia Day celebration that perhaps carried on for too long...?

Im calling Bs on the mental health thing. Waiver: Sure the guys only human and had hes had his fare share of struggles.

Relax he will be back for round #1.

Is this club actually cursed?
Well this trade is working out great so far isn't it.
Alarm bells rang off in my head when I first heard about the trade, got him too easily from Melbourne and arguably too cheaply.
I wouldn't have been the only one with strong "too good to be true" feelings around this trade
Oh No. I blame Ross.

That was a joke HFC
I'm just being realistic. The kid is troubled, and there is a chance he doesn't play again
Is that you Yoda?
Nothing is ever simple here...
Your post is part of the problem. You just hope he comes back to play AFL! Your'e defining him by his football. Walking away is probably the best result for him.
I'm really dissapointed and frustrated, but gee whiz, some serious nuffie gadget type operators here. I'd put money on Hogan playing Round 1, people love a good overreaction.
I'll take that wager.
I just hope Jesse is getting the help he needs. He's been through so much over the past few years, and seeing the shit rumours posted about him all over the internet wouldn't help.
Hope he gets whatever help he needs to get his mental health issues under control, poor bloke.
Damn :(

Hope he gets better.
Sadly I think Jesse's best days are behind him. The club took a punt on him and it looks like a bust. I hope I am wrong.

All that aside, there are more important things in life than footy. I really would prefer that he never plays for Freo again if it meant he gets his sh!t together for good.
Will we ever learn , seriously what are we up too now fallen messiah mk ix
Wouldn’t be surprised.
Our S&C medical staff have problems with long term injuries. Either push too hard or don’t give enough time. It’s quite an expansive tough injury to heal
We've chucked away higher picks and traded worse than that :moustache:
Buddy Franklin came back...
You see the headline, gasp, then you realise you are not at all that surprised.

The Hogan trade is starting to look a bit like the Harley Bennell trade.
I am probably the only one that has remained 100% up beat on all the bad stuff that has happened to Freo since round 1 of 2016.

Kram, I gotta say this. The lack of Balls (and ovaries) inside All your purple Budgie smugglers is Hilarious.

You look back at that 2018 trade Period, was Jesse Hogan the only KPF we got in that trade? Nope we also got Rory Lobb.

Also go look back at round 1. Jesse Hogan was suspended with getting drunk. Freo took on North in Round 1 and Freo win 21.15.141 to Norths 9.5.59. Mind you north had injuries especially down back. We are capable of scoring goals on a good day without Hogan.

Freos KPF stocks Besides Hogan are: Lobb, Tarberner, McCarthy, Cox, Dixon

It’s basically feb now, can’t see him being back until 3-4 more weeks at the minimum.

I don’t expect him in the JLT. I reckon a wafl return and then a return to seniors rd 5-6.

He’s an absolute gun, this is such a waste of a talent. Not meaning to be snarky but I’d imagine the Freo FD will seriously reconsidering trading from us in the future as the only players you’ve traded from us since Roos took over were Col Sylvia and now Hogan

Sylvia was Free Agency I believe. Traded nothing but dignity for him

The evil media is reporting anxiety attack from a setback on his foot injury...

Hah! And, some people wanted to get rid of Tabbenator? The Man is even more valuable now...So, Please Jesus keep Tabbener healthy this whole year!!

ydraw is easily the Biggest Tabs fan on here and by a fair margin. This poster has stuck loyal to him through thick and thin since day one.

Dont get me wrong, I like Tabs. Not the most talented but he works his guts out. Fully fit and top form, easily in our best 18 as a CHF or a forward flanker as a 2nd or 3rd tall just like Cam McCarthy.

Hell even if Hogan and Lobb is out through injury, I dont mind Tarberner as a FF being double teamed and goalless if Cam McCarthy is Freed up as a 2nd tall as a CHF or forward flanker kicking 3-5 goals.

I would love him to play all 22 games this season as he can easily kick 30 goals. But knowing Freos luck, Best case Scenario is he will Kick around 25 goals from 16-18 games.

First of all I hope Jesse gets better.

Personally I didn’t like the idea of the 3 headed monster attack. I like the idea that we can now bring in a medium sized forward. Hopefully this gives us the opportunity to get some games into Sturt playing his natural medium forward role.

2 talls 1 medium and 3 smalls seems a far more mobile set up. Particularly when you consider Sturts vertical jump he becomes a very difficult match up.

If Hogan makes it back (fingers crossed he does) then he need to knock one of Lobb or Tabs of their perch to get a game.

My cousin plays in a boxing day cricket match that Jessie also plays in. Apparently he was quite open with a few lads that life had been tough since Christmas. Pretty much all related to the father and family.

Quit with the bender/new injury conspiracies.
Well he was in a state the night before aus day at a festival. I agree that his foot looked fine, because he was jumping around the end of the night in a euphoric state.

Poor guy, mental health isn't a joke like most of the jokers on Facebook think it is, I know how painful it can be and the draining effect it can have on someone's life. I hope Jesse can get the help that he needs and he can get back up and back out there giving his best.

The problem as I see it is that it's becoming more prevalent as a crutch. I'm not trying to demean the effects of mental illness but I find the term is more and more being used to describe a player that is not towing the line as a professional. Almost like commentators calling everyone a 'Champion' well it's just not true.

That may happen, but I think most afl players want to make the most out of their careers. This kind of event has a significant impact on that.

The other thing is that players come into the industry as 18 year olds, younger in Hogan’s case, and are trained on the job about professionalism. They aren’t preprepared and some of what the industry throws at them is fairly daunting.

Does it really matter either way though? Shouldn't we just give them the benefit of the doubt and respect they might need time and space (for whatever reason)? Is the world going to collapse if keyboard warriors (with limited information) don't hold these guys accountable for their professionalism, if mental health is indeed just being used as a crutch?
