Great decision by both Club and Sloane. Shuts up the usual Karen’s who think the Club and or Nicks won’t make the tough decisions.

so was it the club making a tough decision or was it a great decision by Sloane? And hilarious that Henny Penny is calling others Karens. Fancy discussing negative aspects of our club given our outstanding performance over the last few years.

The best part of Dawson being captain is he demands respect due to his form and skill as a player. He can execute with precision when we are down, lift the team up along with him and dominate a game when we need it.

That's the sort of captain you want. Someone the other players can follow and respect in all circumstances.

Tex was also that sort of player and captain.

Players that are merely role players (Van Berlo) or can easily be shut out of a game (Sloane) are harder to get behind. More difficult to follow someone that cannot lift the team up and can struggle with their own performance.

I really don't think there was anyone else in our squad with that skillset

That said .....he will be tagged this year, didn't handle it well last year ....albeit it was the odd occasion in 2022

Do you want them all at the similar age demographic straight away? Keeping Smith for another year easily allows Rankine/ Berry / even Rachele to elevate next year if they show enough and give us a rep from the younger part of the group

Which is why I'd like to have Dawson play more midfield .....the known midfield AFL taggers wouldn't be able to combat Dawson in the air

I think he’s out of contract end of this year, he’s a Victorian whereas Dawson is SA and grew up supporting the Crows, so no flight risk, plus Dawson is our best player by the length of the straight

I think Doedee could feel a bit miffed but strong reasons to go with Dawson
