Noone's saying it's beyond him. He's just a very self-effacing guy off-field who doesn't seem to be interested in politics or shouting at other players. His leadership is provided enough by on-field efforts and consistency.

I don’t think he got the backing from players that Dawson did or coaches for that matter

Very happy with this call. The time was right for Rory to step down, and with Doods an un-signed FA, this was a no-brainer. Happy the club actually made it.

Smithers has been in the leadership group the last few years and it was something he really worked on during his ACL rehab year. I think he's a good leader. ROB just leads from the front during those training runs. Needs to focus more on his around the ground craft.

They were trying pretty hard to make it seem otherwise but I get the feeling it's a "we're firing you but we'll let you resign" type of deal.

I think when he mentions November discussion with Nicksy to not rush it there was clearly in Sloane's mind unfinished business, but over Jan-Feb has probably seen a couple of things - that he probably isn't a certain midfield starter anymore, and there was someone ready to take over.
