Looking at 2015 Doddee & Harry McKay are the only 1st round picks who didnt play a game, top 5 all played 13+ and this was a draft stacked with key position players.. 2016 is going to be more midfielders so you would have to think almost all players would be capable of playing 10+ games unless injuries happen.

Doedee was playing well enough in SANFL to get a call up if required...showing great signs.

Interested in your thoughts on Battle is he a chance to slip to the second round? Also Simpkin now he has a broken leg.

Battle probably goes in the second round. He looked good on the weekend with 6 goals. But that is likely where he lands.

Simpkin may go first or second round.

Freo's first two picks this year are Pick 3 and Pick 39 I believe, which complicates things.

I think another club will have to be involved because Pick 3 is overs even when packaged and Pick 39 is unders.

Maybe using future picks will be discussed.

Alas, I should have consulted the picks list.

A future second round pick and the third round pick may be what it takes to get Hill or something along those lines.

Thanks KM appreciate your time. I hope it's a successful trade period, Prestia and Witts would be handy. I wouldn't mind adding a James Stewart to that mix also

James Stewart is an interesting name to mention. Nice height. Really fluid athlete. Production ok but not quite AFL standard. But still some scope to develop further. I actually would be interested to see him develop into a key defender. If cheap a worthwhile consideration.

KM who are some other state league rucks the eagles could draft (other than darcy cameron). Would love someone who couldplay forward and give lycett or giles a chop out next season.

could mason shaw become a part time ruckmen at AFL level?

Rory Lobb would be optimal.

50 goals and 121 marks from Shaw this season is a good return in the WAFL. As a bottom ager played some ruck. Not sure if he played any ruck for Port Adelaide in the SANFL, as far as I'm aware he only played forward as he did in his draft year.

At his height he could pinch-hit if absolutely required but you wouldn't want it to be for more than 10-15% of gametime. Not a horrible rookie consideration, though I favour Darcy Cameron if playing ruck is also required.

What's your opinion about Jeremy Goddard?

Good tap ruckman. Has some power to him. Doesn't do enough around the ground or forward of centre.

Would consider him as a rookie if needing a project ruckman and would be one of several I'd consider as a rookie ruck.

KM any chance Patrick Kerr gets to Carltons 3rd pick, our 2nd looks slightly too high..

Kerr some are speculating may feature in the 2nd round and maybe somewhere around Carlton's second round pick.

I'm not confident enough with his kicking and feel his game is too mechanical/unnatural for a forward to be worth selecting that early.

KM- this question was posted by an earlier Port man but I can't see that you answered it- Hinkley has indicated taking our first pick #9 to the draft and commented that first rounders can get you ready made players who will play in 2017. Of the first round probables, who are the ones most likely to play most next year?

Andrew McGrath if there can play right away, though doubt he will be. McCluggage and Brodie can play regularly in year one. Bowes (GC academy), Harry Perryman and Will Setterfield could - though they're part of GWS' academy. Ben Ainsworth again if there, though doubtful he will be.

If Port are willing to reach, Willem Drew I recommend highly and view as a ready made midfielder for 2017. Dylan Clarke possibly also, though again he isn't likely to go that high.

They're those names I'd look at as ready to go.

Monthly power rankings are up: http://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/17462889/knightmare-afl-draft-power-rankings-september

Big riser at #3 and an old favourite back up to #10.
I know you attended the games on the weekend re Jarrod Berry I saw he only had 11 disposals after going off with the blood rule twice, did you see what actually happened there as I heard from a reliable source he spent Sunday in Hospital with an "internal" injury. I've watched him a fair bit this year and love the way he goes about his football but maybe he's too brave for his own good the way he's attacked the contest since he resumed from injury this time. Likely to be in doubt for this week. Perhaps he's trying to impress the recruiters a little too much?

I had heard he went off with the blood rule twice but it felt like he was missing for a major stretch through the second half.

I have Berry down according to the official stats as only having the one second half disposal (in the third quarter) and as far as I'm aware after probably mid way through the third he didn't return to the game that I noticed.

I am liking will drew more and more for port's pick 9, that is if there is no real sliders, but there is always one that drops down the list.

Drew is quality. Hardest inside player in this draft.

Hey KM

i recall you comparing Parish to an upgrade on Zerrett last year, my q is how do you compare mccluggage to Parish & Zerrett?

Z.Merrett has taken off and Parish has exceeded my expectations and lived up to his draft selection last year. Merrett is better than I see Parish being.

McCluggage clearly ahead of Parish for me - much higher ceiling. Having McCluggage number one this year, while I love what Merrett has done this year and now view him as a genuine top tier talent. I lean ever so slightly towards McCluggage of the two.

what are the chances of drew slipping to the eagles pick?

Unless clubs suddenly take a liking to Drew late in the piece, he may be there around West Coast's second round selection.

Of course as per my power rankings though I'd be prepared to take him much earlier and anywhere after pick five if I was after a hard nosed contested baller.

so with both him and spp being a stretch for the eagles first pick, who do think the eagles should go for?

Hey km any state league kpfs thatd be around third round + and be avaliable to play r1 next year? Brett eddy from the sanfl has had a pretty good year from reports 60+ goals i think any podsiadly, ben brown stop gap types? Cheers

Hello again KM there's a lot of talk in Richmond picking up Will Brodie if he's available at pick 6 (if we take it to the draft) but I think he will be gone by then. Who do you see as our most realistic player to take with that pick? It would be great to draft someone who could have an immediate impact.

mason shaw ahaha

Knightmare do you know much about Tristian Tweedie who the hawks have nominated as a possible Cat B rookie?

Is he likely to be taken in the main draft/rookie draft therefore rendering our nomination pointless?

I saw that Richmond nominated Jy Sympkin but I would have thought he were no chance to get them via the Cat B selection.

Hey Knightmare, how did you view the TAC Team of the Year? Any surprise selections there? And with gradual improvement with Josh Begley do you see him as a late draft prospect?

ghee I'd have thought Haydn Stanley would be at least top 30.. had a dominant game against the Dragons with over 20 disposals, the kid looked silk

St Josephs College seems to be a breeding ground for young talent. Jaidyn Stephenson and Sam Hayes projected to go top 10 next year seems as both shoe ins for the 2017 draft. Josh Begley, the big bodied mid who eats the gym alive seems to be a late draft bolter as well as fellow school mate and team mates Haydn Stanley (22 disposals in his last outing) & Joshua Hannon. Another surprise package is the Josh du Vallon, captain of the Scoresby Colts, the man who thoroughly believes he is a better version of Hugh Mcluggage has been sought after by clubs in the Rookie Draft.

hi KM, we are in need of some more on field leaders, other than known leaders McGrath and Berry who would be the draftees with outstanding leadership traits that may be available around our picks 2, 20, 28.

so with both him and spp being a stretch for the eagles first pick, who do think the eagles should go for?

It depends on whether Drew is actually going to be there at the clubs next pick.

In the world Drew is available at that next pick. I'd be nominating a bunch of academy players - Perryman, Setterfield, Scheer, Mutch etc if still there. After that Taranto, Scrimshaw and Venables would be the next best availables if no substantial slider is there.

Hey km any state league kpfs thatd be around third round + and be avaliable to play r1 next year? Brett eddy from the sanfl has had a pretty good year from reports 60+ goals i think any podsiadly, ben brown stop gap types? Cheers

Tyler Keitel I've enjoyed the play of down back. He is probably there as a rookie. He could if required play round one potentially depending on preseason. He is of the state league key defenders my preferred choice this season.

Brett Eddy is the best of the stop gaps. Koby Beard and Mason Shaw while further back are those next best options for key forwards. Eddy is the closest thing to a Podsiadly standard KPF. He isn't that, but he is something like the state league equivalent of Jeremy Cameron - playing that same style of game.

Hello again KM there's a lot of talk in Richmond picking up Will Brodie if he's available at pick 6 (if we take it to the draft) but I think he will be gone by then. Who do you see as our most realistic player to take with that pick? It would be great to draft someone who could have an immediate impact.

It would be very surprising if Brodie was to slide that far. But if there he is an absolute must get.

My expectation with the Richmond pick is McCluggage, Brodie and Petrevski-Seton are off the board, with one of McGrath, Ainsworth and Marshall there are six and that most likely choice. Richmond have pulled a surprise before going with Conca, so that possibility can't be completely eliminated, but if Richmond go with the consensus, it should be one of the above.

Tim English also wouldn't surprise me as a ruckman, being viewed by many as a top 10 choice and some even inside their top 5.

Tweedie showed promise early season up forward for Eastern. Not sure where he has disappeared to since, not tracking him closely. Kicked 8 goals (6+2) from his two games and showed some athletic traits.

It's possible he receives rookie consideration but can't see him going in the main draft. As a category b rookie is a choice that makes a lot of sense given the limited exposure.

Simpkin will go somewhere in the first two rounds. He isn't dropping to the rookie draft.

Hey Knightmare, how did you view the TAC Team of the Year? Any surprise selections there? And with gradual improvement with Josh Begley do you see him as a late draft prospect?

Venables playing only three games and making the team is ridiculous. Terrific talent and can be a first round choice. Selecting him is the equivalent of selecting Nat Fyfe this year on the back of five games for the All Australian team. That makes no sense at all.

I also don't like seeing Drew on a wing and McCluggage on the ball.

If I'm constructing a team I'd have McCluggage on a HFF with Drew on the ball and some other midfielder added to the team to play on a wing. Brodie Romensky, Ben Ronke and Lachlan Walker would have on performance this year have been pretty easy replacements (for Venables).

Begley is not a certain selection but late/rookie is in the mix. Has had a strong season. He is a big body but can win the contested footy, take a grab up forward and hit the scoreboard. So he is definitely draftable and someone I'd look at late.

Does McCluggage ever have to deal with a tag at this level? How do you think he would go if he copped a hard tag?

No real hard tags in the TAC Cup. Sometimes at stoppages you'll see particular matchups organised but otherwise the coaches in the most part let the boys play.

ghee I'd have thought Haydn Stanley would be at least top 30.. had a dominant game against the Dragons with over 20 disposals, the kid looked silk

Stanley was terrific down back v Sandy. His best game of the season and will be getting a mention in my weekly wrap.

Not invited to the state or national draft combines so isn't looking likely to be selected.

Would love to see him come back for another year of TAC Cup or get onto a VFL list as he feels developable.

St Josephs College seems to be a breeding ground for young talent. Jaidyn Stephenson and Sam Hayes projected to go top 10 next year seems as both shoe ins for the 2017 draft. Have never heard of Josh du Vallon but he sounds like we have a young man who is getting well ahead of himself if he thinks he has anything on McCluggage.

hi KM, we are in need of some more on field leaders, other than known leaders McGrath and Berry who would be the draftees with outstanding leadership traits that may be available around our picks 2, 20, 28.

Brodie and McGrath at 2 offer leadership.

Berry if there at 20.

Graham, Scharenberg and Gallucci are some around 20/28 who also have shown some leadership qualities.

Thoughts on Bulldogs next generation academy nominee Dion Johnstone?

Club said today Jarrod spent 2 nights in Box Hill Hospital undergoing kidney scans for a suspected kidney injury. Poor bugger can't catch a break this season at all. Would have to be in doubt for the weekend I would think though he's a tough bugger.

Knightmare, can Powell-Peppers kicking be fixed?
