Kurt Tippett HAS to play Forward most of the game.

Not sure what the percentages were for him in Ruck/Forward/bench, but this lad has to be our key Forwrad.

He has the Bulk, Height and Mobility to get the ball. Not just from marks but his second efforts are very good.

This means Maric has to come back and play back up to Griffen.

I definitely agree with you here Geoffa and I'm pretty sure Maric will come back next week, it was just a matter of not going in too tall against the bulldogs.

Tippet gives us a key forward that will trouble opposition with their match ups whoever is placed on him and really should be groomed as our future in this position, ruckman are easier to find than key forwards with the potential of Tippet, and we have 3 other up and coming potential ruckman who are ready to play. Tippet is our only young KPF who is ready to play, Sellar and Walker are still young and developing, and unlike the others already looks dangerous. So IMO we should play him here predominantly and only move him for short stints.

I reckon that with his athleticism he'd be wasted as a key forward. I'd rather have him as a ruckman who pinch-hits forward, a la Cox, Spider or Clark Keating. He's a big enough unit to take care of himself in most centre bounces, too.

When is knights scheduled to come back??

I would probably drop Shirley too, its close though.

If Vince has another game like he did today, I see Craig dropping Vince and keeping Shirls and Doughty though.

Really dont think there is room in the 22 for Shirley and Doughty.

I noticed at times, he would briefly go up forward but wasn't playing out of the goal square. Then it seemed in the second half, when he was up forward he was playing out of the goal sqaure. He's so handy, because of his height and his marking ability and he knows how to make a good lead.

I thought he looked really good when thrown into the ruck. His leap is phenomenal and his athleticism means he hits the ground and recovers quickly enough to act as another midfielder.

Obviously he'll spend the bulk of his time up forward, but I hope he continues to get a run through the middle.

I would drop Doughty before anyone. I am sure as hell not an AFL footballer but if I cranked up my fitness a bit I could do what Doughty does and run along, receive a handball from Andrew Mcleod and give a 2m handball to Scott Thompson or Simon Goodwin. He really doesn't do a lot, is soft as butter, rarely takes responsibility and when he does most times he stuffs it up. Don't like to be negative but there you go

A 22 including Griffin, Moran and Tippett is the perfect scenario, with Moran or Tippett the 2R depending upon whether we need more height forward or back at any stage of the game.

I agree with Tippett FF to assist Burton on the FF line. But what to do with McGregor??? If Kenny and Tippett deep, we cannot play Burton deep also imo as we would need a genuine small alongside.

Can Kenny play further up the ground? For mine that's a no, unless for a brief stint only to mix it up a bit. Plenty of times today i saw him chase in vain and not make up any ground. He managed 11 possessions with a few good chest marks and a decent goal. Hardly world beating. Stevens and Gill are far more versatile and better options in a range of forward positions.

Easy selections once Gill and Moran are fit...but for now it's a tough one. We will need 1 additional tall this week most likely. Therefore Maric probably gets a shot with McGregor retained as we juggle an imbalanced forward line with an undersized CHF if Stevens is needed back.

Oh and Shirley might as well go. Doughty is ahead on current form. While Vince was indifferent today, Shirley was worse. Wouldn't surprise if Campbell got a look in this week.

On T-Unit, I'm leaning towards playing him forward more prominently but on the other hand he looks alright in ruck and definitely held his own after qtr time. Half and half could work, at least this year, it also gets him involved in the play more. As for hard knocks/injuries resulting from playing in either position as was discussed in another thread, that is something that can be progressively managed throughout the year as is seen fit by the coaching staff.
Also, I am against giving Maric a go unless he earns it, not just because there is a gap in the side. At the moment he has shown very little, gone backwards which is disappointing because I thought he had something.

There is no point Tippet playing in the ruck. Whenever he was at full forward we looked dangerous! I also reckon Sellar and Jacky should play next game. We need targets up forward and small crummers. Sellar looked good in pre season and its worth giving him a shot at the big time. If youngsters like Tippet, Sellar, McKay and Jacky can develop this year it will make it easier for Dangerfield next season.

Hopefully we can get Knights back soon and drop one of Shirely or Doughty, my money is on Shirely.
Are you confused about the topic?!

Maric needs to come in next week, with Kurt going forward, as we need to have as many dangerous options up forward as possible.

lol ;)

Please leave Doughty alone, he makes me feel that even I could represent the Club.

I agree with this given our injuries but it's gonna be tough to structure a decent forward set-up as i believe Burton, as our most dangerous goalkicker, should predominantly play deep.

Will just have to rotate those deep talls we have through the half-forward region and hope for the best.

Kenny had a poor game, mainly resulting from a heavy hit that he copped in the first quarter. To his credit he bounced back to still contribute and in what was a poor game he still kicked 2 goals. Welsh led our goalkicking with 49 last year, which is about 2 goals a game. Ken is worth his spot every day of the week without question.
As for where to play Tippett/Burton/McGregor well Kenny has to play either FF or forward pocket IMO, where you can rely on him to kick 2-3 goals every game. Tippett looks able to play in either line up forward, probably preferable FF or forward pocket but its an option. Out of all 3 I would most like to see Burton play on the half forward line, with his amazing athleticism he can run around anywhere, move up the ground and also drop deeper on occasion as he does and be a pain in the butt for any defence.
When Gill returns from injury I would like to see him play in a similar role to what Charlie Gardiner is for the Saints, leading out, kicking long into the forwardline and moving the ball quickly. Before he can play as a true forward option his kicking has to improve. If you cant kick you cant play, especially as a forward, end of story.

I reckon if we played Burton up the ground more taking marks around half forward Tippet could kick bags of goals on the lead from the goal square. When Tippet was leading the forward line was crowded and made it hard for him to take marks. Even though he took some great grabs. If we could have Tippet and a few small crummers reading his leads we could be a lot more dangerous up forward.

That would be pukka.
