NOTE - Do Not Engage With Trolls

Welcome to this the time of year when Geelong is knocked out of premiership contention - with our refusal to bottom out, when we get knocked out of finals it brings joy to opposition fans

That means we get increased incidents of trolling, both on our board and via PMs - sometimes from regular accounts and then there's those who decide to create new accounts to act as idiots

IF anyone encounters troll activity - either on this board or via PM, the best course of action is to report the content and then leave it for the mod & admin team to deal with

Do not tag trolls, quote troll posts as that increases the work for posts to be deleted, or post screenshots - anything like that will get deleted

Let's get back on track, discuss the game and even the season at hand for those who wish - though we'll try to get a season autopsy thread up in time

Gallant in defeat - it wasn't to be our night

We took some control of the game in the second quarter, kicking 7 goals to 2 but we weren't able to hit our strides for long enough outside of that

Losing preliminary finals suck, because you're so close to the big one but you've now got to wait 12 months for that chance to come again...

It was only 6 months ago, only the bravest & maybe craziest of Geelong supporters had us making it this far - so while tonight hurts and will sting until the opportunity for redemption starts March next year, let's look at the positives from this season and steps in the right direction this team has taken

Vent away, but don't cross the line

And if opposition posters want to venture in here - mind your step because warnings won't be given

The better team won.

We were inept for too long.

Look we lost to the best team. Only reason they don’t win next week is from the ruck (although they looked better with Joe out of forward line)

I know we are all emotional but to say we didn’t want it or we are terrible is not right. Just beaten by a team that should win the flag.

Disappointed as we would have beaten sydney.

Losing Holmes in second half was massive for us and J Henry also hindered. Duncan wrong call as sub as two clangers cost goals at end. But hard to get pace of it

Lost by 2 goals (would have been 1 if Stanley wasn’t so rushed).

We missed a few we should have kicked but so did they

Showing the highlights now at the end it is a smoother or great play by them that we must recognise that took the game away from us

I suspect next year we might cut a little deeper than expected as no point in my mind having Stanley (tried hard) Duncan Rohan etc go around again

I am actually amazed at what we achieved this year. It was ours to pinch tonight but couldn’t do it. Very proud of the season

Was pretty clearly not our day when we missed 5 goals in the first quarter.

Then things like this:

Thankfully I don't think there were any reasonable selections that would have changed the result. We just didn't take our chances when we had them, and bafflingly let Brisbane use the corridor at will.

Great experience for the kids. Holmes thankfully doesn't have to suffer the injustice of missing a grand final again. Even if we won, I doubt we'd get past the Swans.

Dangerfield got a bit ahead of himself toward the end, especially after going missing for a big chunk of the game.

Some bafffffffling umpiring decisions, but there's nothing we can do about it and have to 'factor it in' to our game.

Looking forward to who we trade in. Will be interesting to see if this changes anyone's retirement plans.

Shattered.
They lost O so us losing Holmes can't be weighed on too much, but him going down destroyed all of our run and carry.
Gallant, still should have won being in front with 2 minutes to go but our weakness through the middle came to the fore all second half as the lions got well on top. Lost composure in the second half, in particular in the third with some absolutely woeful disposal. WILL NOT MENTION THE ****ING UMPIRES!
Good experience for the kids, bring in Smith and some further development with some midfielders and I have no doubt we can go 1 further next season.

I was right about Bruhn
It seems to make you happy for some reason that is really foreign to me. I suppose I have to accept that people are different.

What consoles me is that you being “right” makes no difference to Tanners life. He will be wildly successful in life. (At a guess multiples more than you. Just a wild guess).

A very good kid with talent I would dream of having. Will play 250 games and the fact that you will come on this forum every bad one won’t change a thing

Our midfield ultimately lost it. We were already at max capacity and when Max, our most important and best midfielder went off, the tide completely turned. If only he held up and we win this easily.

Tanner Bruhn simply does not get enough of the ball.

Mitch Duncan was badly exposed and cost two late goals. Champion of the club but needs to be told no more.

Our small forwards bar Stengle were good and backs were serviceable. Stanley battled hard. Mullin shows promise and was solid.

Disappointing end to our season but a lot to be proud of the year. I like how the team stayed and huddled in the middle before leaving the ground. Hopefully the pain sets in and they use this for
Motivation next year.

You could just tell with the volume of ball they were winning in the middle that it would hurt us in the end, felt defensively we were pretty good, forwards wasted plenty of opportunities but whether it would have made a difference in the end I’m not so sure.

On the plus side it helps to go out in a prelim, the team can make the list decisions they have to make, and I can see that we can go into the draft with an eye for the now and the future, as champions who have become list cloggers like Duncan, Rohan, Stanley can be moved on without thinking we can keep them on.

Prelims don’t hurt either, disappointing result, but I’ll be over it by tomorrow.
