Yeah he was shocking. The entire team
Was though.
Really bad shit.
I assume you are emotional like the rest of us. But you are normally a better poster than that.

It was probably the best game of the finals. Not just because it was close but the intensity and skills in the wet - wow. Brisbane have been building for a flag for 6 years now and will win it next week baring injury.

And we lost by a goal (Stanley would have kicked it without time pressure). So to say the entire team was shocking seems a little over the top? Unless of course the entire Brisbane team was also shocking bar maybe 1 or 2 that got them the extra shot at goal??

Two best teams in 2024 played off tonight IMO and we dissapointely couldn’t hold on.

We couldnt have played a less composed game.

Holmes going down with injury cost us big time.

Our structures fell apart in the 3rd and 4th. Our game was panicked.

Besides Miers and Ohenry our forward line failed to fire and our mids were well beaten. Felt like we needed to knock the ball out of the clearence a bit more seeing we had the ruck advantage, Neale, Luggage and Dunkley hurt us inside.

We needed to shut Zorko down as well. They bit off a few kicks in the corridor that we didnt defend well enough.

Umps f**ked us as well.

Our midfield ultimately lost it. We were already at max capacity and when Max, our most important and best midfielder went off, the tide completely turned. If only he held up and we win this easily.

Tanner Bruhn simply does not get enough of the ball.

Mitch Duncan was badly exposed and cost two late goals. Champion of the club but needs to be told no more.

Our small forwards bar Stengle were good and backs were serviceable. Stanley battled hard. Mullin shows promise and was solid.

Disappointing end to our season but a lot to be proud of the year. I like how the team stayed and huddled in the middle before leaving the ground. Hopefully the pain sets in and they use this for
Motivation next year.
He's been a pace off all year, He's a quality user by foot, but the games to fast for him now, we do have Humphreys tho, absolute jet. Kid played with more composure then most of the older guys.

They did but they will lose by 100 (and darcy fort will be a losing player in a GF i never thought Id say that) so theres not much consolation. We at least could have troubled sydney a bit whereas they have a walkover now.

As for the year its been a great year we have found players but we have some structural issues particularly in the middle. We have to trade a ruck in and scott needs to be tough and tell duncan bews and rohan (ollie henry ended his career tonight) that its no more. (Stanley will decide on his own). Unfortunately that was the last chance gone for guys like danger to win a flag.

It also shows how crucial holmes is and why we need to beef up our midfield.

Think Stanley made his decision with that last big hit he took.

Shattered mate

You could just tell with the volume of ball they were winning in the middle that it would hurt us in the end, felt defensively we were pretty good, forwards wasted plenty of opportunities but whether it would have made a difference in the end I’m not so sure.

On the plus side it helps to go out in a prelim, the team can make the list decisions they have to make, and I can see that we can go into the draft with an eye for the now and the future, as champions who have become list cloggers like Duncan, Rohan, Stanley can be moved on without thinking we can keep them on.

Prelims don’t hurt either, disappointing result, but I’ll be over it by tomorrow.
List cloggers?

I'm not sure any of those three premiership players would take too kindly to that terminology.

Yes we are pissed off, yes we blew a chance, but there is no need to insult our older brigade at all by calling them basically shit.

Just imagine, we could have played in 8 grand finals under Chris Scott. What do people think of the 3 and 5 record in prelims?

As I have been saying for weeks Brisbane are the best team in it!
I agree with that….which is why (in context) our effort wasn’t that bad. Absolutely we screwed up some things that could have won it (and if we did, Brisbane would look at what they screwed up to lose it!).

Brisbane should be the best team with the amount of first round draft picks they have. Have been building toward a premiership over 6-8 years. And we almost stole it from them

Gee that one hurts but you can’t be disappointed with our season at large.

Yes we squandered an opportunity but you look at some of the guys performing well tonight who weren’t in the 22 premiership side it’s not bad at all.

Moments like those x2 Henry goals are why I go to the footy.
Great post

Too many bad decisions. Some shocking disposal. A few had a mare, led by Stewart of all people. Henry doubters are silenced at least. Futures bright, hang in there peeps.
Listen, I'm OK with the loss because Lions were pretty good tonight. But to insinuate that O Henry is anything other than an A grade Muppet anywhere outside the goal square is disingenuous. He can kick a ball but so can a million other blokes. HIs footy smarts are 0/10.

Would have been easily beaten next week. No Danger or Holmes.

Couple of immediate observations.

- Duncan had a terrible last 10 mins. As I’ve said all year, it’s passed him by. Run down close to goal (burnt Jezza without hand balling) and turned over the handball to Ashcroft for Lions last goal. Get him to 300 if they must but he’s a serious liability.

- Bruhn owes us a big pre season after tonight and MUST take the next step if we’re to hang on next season.

- Atkins should be nowhere near midfield unless he tags.

- Mullin will be a very good player. The pressured kick on his left foot late that set up the Henry goal was elite.

- Stanley deserves more credit. Stood up late in the year and was good. But needs a long break and is only ‘insurance’ next year.

Otherwise I think we’re ok. Get Bailey Smith and another mid and we lick our wounds and go again.

Mate, I’m not even pissed but can you realistically see a reason to hold onto Duncan, Rohan and Stanley if they aren’t contracted.

Refer to my “champions” comment, they’ve been great in the past but that time is now past and they won’t be part of our next premiership team. We, ie all of us need to move on.

Just want to prologue this post by saying - I am from England, living in Korea. Started watching AFL this year (realizing how friendly time difference was to Australia) and after some deliberation picked Geelong as my team a few months ago (just kept feeling pulled to Geelong as I watched week after week, and also one of the first teams I had heard of before the AFL was even the AFL). I have been surprised at how quickly I have fallen in love with both this sport and the Cats!

This all culminated in one of the most tense fan experiences I've had (as a football/soccer fan, I've had plenty) today. And very real pain in defeat with all the clumsy mishandling in those key moments and failure to mark over and over, and underperformance of guys who have generally seemed so reliable until now.

Regardless, I just wanted to share with you all that you have gained a passionate global Geelong fan here who now would love to visit for a game and I am passing this same love for the Cats with family members - my wife, son, daughter, and brother are all Cats fans now too though none of us have yet stepped foot in Geelong (or Australia)! Hope to do something about that soon :) and get some Cats winterwear for the cold Korean winter to come!
Welcome aboard! You've chosen an amazing sport to follow.

Midfield smashed. Neale, Zorko and Dunkley all with 28+.

Atkins, Bowes, Bruhn all under 15. Holmes 3rd most possessions and missed a half.

On to Get Bailey Smith.

If he has signed for 2 years, and we can bring in Smith and another high quality midfielder or two, we are back among it again.
Defense is strong, forwardline will be high scoring again next season, the issue last season that we didn't address and hurt us tonight is lack of depth in midfield.
Guys like Holmes and Bruhn will continue to develop, and maybe we get more out of Bowes, but unless someone like a Clark or Stevens have break out years, or we find another Tim Kelly in the lower leagues, we don't have anyone on our list to break into the midfield and take us further.

If we get Smith in that helps, but thats assuming he bounces back from an ACL. I would hope the clubs current wishlist is 2x mids that immediately are best 22 and maybe a ruck.

But fix that midfield and we finish top 4 again and give ourselves another chance.

nah brisbane will be cooked and their defence will hold up. Sydney will smash them. In fact id be surprised if bris are under $5 with the bookies. Will be as uncompetitive as 2022 was.
