List Mgmt. List Management 2017 -Who Stays, Who Goes?

My take on the 2017 unsigned players (list from the contracted players thread):

Angus Monfries - depends on how his body holds up this year. Would love to have him for 1 or 2 more.
Brad Ebert - sign for life
Aaron Young - talent is obviously there but hasn't set the world alight this season, give him the rest of it but most likely 1 or 2 more years.
Jackson Trengove - sign for life
Billy Frampton - depending on how strong he finishes off the season, most likely 1 or 2 years
Karl Amon - sign for 2 or more IMO. A real asset for the future
Tom Clurey - same with Amon, 2 or more
Jimmy Toumpas - delist
Matthew White - loved him in his prime but just doesn't have the pace (which was his key asset) anymore. Delist.
Riley Bonner - depends on how he finishes off the season, I'd give him 1 more year
Brett Eddy (rookie) - I'd give him 1 more year but I don't see him getting one
Jasper Pittard - sign for life
Aidyn Johnson - 1 or 2 more years, depending on how many more AFL games he can get
Dougal Howard - similar to Johnson, 1-3
Will Snelling (rookie) - not sure. Could get another year depending on how strong he finishes the season
Jack Hombsch - sign for life
Jesse Palmer - not sure either. Same with Snelling
Peter Ladhams (rookie) - haven't seen enough of him
Justin Westhoff - might as well sign on, I could get behind another miracle goal or two before his career is over
Jarrod Lienert (rookie) - haven't seen enough of him
Brendon Ah Chee - needs to finish the season strong. Could be 1-2 years.
Dan Houston (rookie) - sign for 3 (or more) years. A real asset we need to get locked in
Cameron Hewett (rookie) - haven't seen enough of him, probably delist
Emmanuel Irra (category B rookie) - same as Hewett
Sam Gray - in no way am I a Sam Gray hater but I just don't see us winning a premiership with him in our side. Delist.
Nathan Krakouer - 1 more year. Showing decent form in the Maggies and can play at AFL level. Worth hanging on to.

Hi guys, first post here. Please no hate

I must be a deluded outsider because I honestly think Will Snelling deserves more than a possible delisting. What's the reason why some are not sure about him or are suggesting a delist?

Cheers
No dislike for him but he's not progressing and eventually we have to delist 5 or so players even if they're all playing like gods. If he bumps someone out in the remainder of the year I'm happy to be proved wrong. Byrne-Jones is my poster boy for how I don't see someone coming on and then they're 1st 22.

Thomas is much worse than Neade and thats saying something. Would offer nothing to our side.

Thomas averages 1.6 goals over his career with a career high average of 2.6 and a career high season tally of 53. Neade averages 0.9 goals over his career with a career high average of 1.2 and a career high season tally of 15. Neade is probably a much better bloke than Thomas but he'd be lucky to be half the footballer.

I don't want either on our list in 2018, but we'll have at least one on our list in 2017 and I'd rather have Thomas than Neade.

The only certain delistees at this stage would be Irra, Lienert, Hewett, and White.

Ah Chee, Krakouer, Monfries, and Snelling might join them. Lobbe and Neade would if they weren't contracted, but could (and should) be offloaded to another club at any price.

Let's wait and see how the year plays out.

Edit: As for Toumpas, I still hold some hope that he will come good. One more year at most, though.
Only certain delistee is Toumpas imo. His backers will sight his current Snafl form and yes it is good BUT hasn't shown anything at AFL level in Port colours to suggest he's worth persevering with.
Irra is a Cat B so no rush on him.
Lienert is doing well and only rookied this year. Deserves another 12 months at this stage.
Hewett I agree with you.
White could go either way but still plenty of footy to decide on him. You could say that for anyone on the list I guess but a fit and in form White is in the discussion every selection night. Right now I agree it will probably be his last year.

Interesting years for Arch, Krak and Will. Hard to see Snelling getting a run atm, especially with Atley, Arch and Drew probably held in higher regard. I do really like him though but yeh probably delisted.
Lobbe is a genuine list clogger. He's not even insurance imo. I'm sure the club has learned from this mistake.
Hard to see Neade playing AFL for the PAFC again.

Here's what I think is realistic:

Sam Gray is playing every game in the Power side and the coaches love him, as much as some people want him out he's probably getting another contract.

Ah Chee has to make it over the next few weeks. He broke into the team and that spot is his to lose. 50/50 will get a deal.

Young has been down on form for a while which is really disappointing. I'm doubtful that his shoulder isn't giving him trouble. Wouldn't be surprised to see him let go for very little in return.

Toumpas I think has hit his peak, might be given a year but wouldn't be surprised either way.

Frampton is looking great. Would be silly to let him go anywhere. Needs a year or two.

Palmer needs more time to develop and shouldn't go anywhere. Needs a year.

Bonner, as above.

Monfries, White and Krak I think are all in the same boat. Monfries is the most quality player of the lot and I'd love to see him get a chance to prove himself again. I hope Gus and Matt can stay fit because the injuries have really held them back and as time goes on, the more likely it looks like their time is up. Hope Krak is on the mend.

Brett Eddy. Whyyyy would we let him go? You must be high. Give him a year to get AFL fit and he can play a role for us anytime. Great insurance, great depth.

Neade almost certainly gone.

Lobbe will be on the trade table but will probably end up staying here til his contract is up.

Hewett gone and Snelling probably gone unless something miraculous happens. I like him but he's in competition with the bigger bodies - 3 of which we drafted last year.

Whenever I've met you Powerstufff you seem sensible and knowledgeable. Then you get in front of a computer
Delist
14 Billy Frampton (love his attitude but IMO not improving)
And you start channelling Ken Cunningham :p

As I partly said earlier I've loved Billy and his hard-arse attitude when he wasn't injured over the past 2 years. But this year I've been really disappointed with his ineffectiveness at the 2.5 games I've got to at Alberton. I'll get to tomorrow's game after half-time tomorrow (due to work) and see if he can prove me wrong. At least if we delist him he can take over from Chris Hemsworth playing Thor.

Why am I seemingly the only one confused by 1.6 goals not being 2.0 goals?

Some absurd stuff right there.. Frampton not improving...ok...

At least with Neade on the list we can keep him safely tucked away in the SANFL causing no harm. If Lindsay Thomas comes to Port Adelaide from North Melbourne Lindsay Thomas will be shoe horned into the AFL team and likely stay there well past his use by date. That's just the way it works, and that's why, given the choice between Neade and Thomas, I'd rather keep Neade.

If be very happy with absolute minimum changes to the list this year, think we have a strong squad across the board.
All rookies other than Hewitt are safe, and he could get another crack elsewhere, by far not the worst rookie we have had over the last couple of years.

Krakouer and toumpas the two most likely in strife, young and ahchee could be used in trades I guess although I still think ahchee is building nicely and the rest of the year will tell.

Nothing personal. But I'm glad you're not one of our official list managers.
Same here. If we should have learnt one thing from Hartlett and Lobbe it's that multiple year contracts don't work. I wouldn't suggest they're both deliberately resting on their laurels but everyone needs incentive to improve.

Lacks a bit of pace but I like him. Don't see him getting much opportunity

I think with all the fuss over the call to delist Frampton we've all lost sight of the even more ridiculous call to delist Bonner. Carn.
