Monfries and Krakouer will retire, possibly Matty White too. Lobbe, Trengove, Pittard could all be traded/lost to FA. Toumpas and Ah Chee could be traded or delisted. The only other one I'm a little unsure on is Jesse Palmer, hasn't managed an AFL game this year and from what I have seen (admittedly very little) of the maggies this year, hasn't set the world on fire.

Games when we have lost are usually in part due to us being stagnant as a sloth in a pile of shit, yet people want to trade out our only decent line breaker not about to retire (White) beside Polec, for ... reasons? :drunk: Any or all of Trengove, Ah Chee, Broadbent, Young, Impey, Lobbe (disregarding those about to retire or obvious cut like Toumpas) I'd rather trade out then Amon. He's not quite the Pittard of 2015/2016 as whether someone has a clue, but he's got to be near the closest for 2017.

For a guy who's purportedly in the side for his kicking skills, he sure kicks it out on the full or straight down the opposition's throat a lot.

He's OK, I don't mind him in the side, but if we get Steven Motlop I'd be more than happy to trade him.

Mate, absolutely staggers me how much love for Amon there is. "But he's such a great kick!!!!!!" Well he's actually really not that good of a kick. It's far too hit and miss for him to get a game week in week out based on it.

Carn. For every person that lauds Karl's kicking there is at least one person denouncing him as a soft as butter squib. The truth is somewhere in between. He has been a more reliable kick than many of our seniors players and can at least use either leg (#poleccheckside). This is the first year he has had a decent run of games and hasn't really looked out of place despite missing a chunk of games through injury.
If the right deal comes along I don't think anyone could complain about him being traded but it isn't clear exactly what Karl will turn into yet either.

Just opened this thread and read a few posts.
Can I just clarify?

Are some maniacs talking about trading Amon for a second rounder???

Is he currently that far from his ceiling though? He's played 35 games so he's not as raw as a few other blokes in our side. Will he get a whole lot better?

All the academy and compo picks aside, pick 19 is in the second round. You would have rocks in your head to not take that offer should it arise, particularly in a year where we are devoid of a first round pick.

Make a stupid offer for McGovern. Just for the fun of it. Go alright alongside Charlie and Todd.
I'd like us to use Ken's ties to seriously make a play for Tom Lynch who looked devastated wondering what his future will be like at that rabble of a club.

A tall forward line of Dixon, Lynch & Marshall would cause the immediate of all immediates, is he close to becoming a free agent?

He is improving. DBJ has played 41 games and has stagnated or regressed from last year, should we trade him? Neade has been given 57 games and seems less deserving of a place in the AFL side than Amon.
Ultimately if Karl wants to go it will come down to what we think he will be versus what we are offered. Considering the lack of player movement during Hinkley's reign I'd be surprised if he went. It's the Pordelaide way.

DBJ is fine & played really well last night, had a few up & down games but has a big future at our club.

Not actually advocating trading Darcy

I don't think DBJ is in the same conversation, he's been a solid contributor to our back 6 since the moment he entered it. I don't necessarily suggest we trade Karl either, but i think we overrate him significantly here, his kick in particular, and if a second round pick was offered we'd be stupid not to take it. But that offer will never come and he will remain on our list.

If you mean is tom lynch close to being a free agent, then yes he is a free agent next year

The DBJ was (I thought) obvious hyperbole but the Neade one was more pertinent. His kick is the only thing that is rated at all. I don't think we will be offered anything equivalent to Amon's value, certainly not a second rounder.

I was thinking more the stupidity level than the actual dollar amount.

I'm in the minority here but I don't really have a problem with Port's decision at the time. Lobbe had come off a career best year where he was top 10 for hitouts in the league and was renowned for his second efforts and ball hunting playing a lone hand all year as ruck as we had no back up (other than an injured Renouf on the rookie list and a cooked Redden). He was simply a warrior that year. He was only 25 years old and as is the way with ruckmen coming into his prime. Plus there was the issue of free agency and clubs wanting to lock in important players. We had signed Ryder but the thinking there was probably more for him to play forward and be ruck relief rather than take over the ruck like he did.

Any young ruck would need development time and we had missed out on Gorringe as we arm-wrestled Dodoro for the Ryder deal. And in the end Gorringe has wasted away at Carlton anyway. So locking in your lead ruckman at the time was a must.

Anyway all up, I think Port did what needed to be done at the time. It was again in the timing and good luck to Lobbe for having a manager who played all the cards just right.
