I still want us to take more kids in the draft.

We only had something like 3 live picks in the last 2 drafts, and this is meant to be the best draft since 2018 from many reports.

Happy to bring Sholl in, and just try off load some of the players being discussed here for more draft picks.

We seem to be getting better at developing young players, let's keep going and blood more of them instead of keep going down the moneyball/trading in route .
We are not going to find the answer for our KPD and midfield pace shortage problems from another club (for example)

I really like the idea of a Sholl for Stocker straight swap.

Sholl is a beautiful kick and decision maker, probably has a few things in his game to fix, but that is a really good start for me, plus being nominated for the Rising Star twice.

Sadly for him I don't think Stocker's body will be able to hold up to play a full season of footy, which is probably the main reason why we are rumoured to be moving him on.

Where's the rumour about Stocker being moved on?

I'd be seriously pissed. He's had a crap run with injuries and brings something different to our team.

Not your stock-standard HBF.

Let him get fit in the off-season and give the kid a chance. If he left, he'd probably end up at a team like the Hawks and become a very good 150+ game player.

What a load of rubbish, Stocker was solid against Geelong and should not have been dropped, he still has the capability to be a long term player for us.

Amazing how players from other clubs suddenly become better eg Sholl at this time of the year, he has hardly played for the crows this year.

Will accept your comments about Stocker (but if Voss and the MC don't seem to rate him, than he may possibly be moved on)

Think you are way to harsh on Sholl, granted hasn't played a lot for the Crows this year, but I think he could be a useful pick up for us.

Generally speaking, I prefer just to try get more picks for this year's draft (although we don't seem to have a lot to barter with that would make us get more 2nd and 3rd round picks)

I'm happy to look at Grundy subject to a medical, and subject to Collingwood appropriately paying a portion of his contract. I don't think Collingwood would toss him aside though.

If it did happen, and it didn't cost more than a second round pick in value, then I'd want TDK slimming down and going into the forward group immediately.

The TDK forward move has me worried Jimmae. TDK really only offers marking and kicking goals as a forward option. He offers no defensive pressure. He offers no football smarts either like JSoS.

The key thing with TDK is that he doesn’t actually mark the ball. He nearly marks every ball then falls over.

Despite running free around the ground as a ruck this year and a few times forward, TDK averages only 2.6 marks a game. Every other key forward or defender on our list doubles that tally. So if he doesn’t really mark the ball in ‘reality’, why do we want him in our forward line.

TDK simply Needs to improve out of sight in so many categories. A single highlight here and there is hiding the truth of his numbers on marking and hitouts.

Imagine a fit and firing Grundy feeding it to our midfield
I actually wouldn't mind trying TDK as a key defender i honestly dont have much confidence in young becoming a great defender we need

He can slim down probably 5 kilos or so and play CHF. The rest will come with training, as he's got good game sense, he's just struggling to out-body and out-leap a lot of ruck opponents.

Stocker & Kemp are two players that have upside, let's play them, instead of players like Newnes & Plowman etc who have limited scope for improvement.

l agree we should be trying to obtain more picks, but maybe we can do that by trading future picks if we think this draft has some players that we rate highly enough.

l think many people on here have gone into panic mode with some suggestions, most pressing need is clearly more speed across the ground.

Think we are in a very good position to win a flag in the next 5 years... Think we could be a legit contender by 2024...
We can still make finals this year...

I like your positivity. But improvement isn't linear in sport and although it seems you are looking at it with a glass half full (and I am usually in the same boat as you), I just don't see that we have the right mix of players, out salary cap is at a maximum, we have some really big contracts to sign next year that again will have the squeeze on us financially, plus the players we will let go this year won't net us much in return.

I have noted that you think Stocker and Philp will be in our team 2024-2027. They won't be.

Don't know about Philp but would have to say agree, but unless you are in the inner circle at the club, find it difficult to say that re Stocker.

Also you have noted salary club is at the max level, How could you possibly know that information, contracts can always be restructured in different ways.

It's tight. And we won't be bringing in big name players. Plus yes, Stocker most likely will be delisted

Can someone tell me why we wouldn't be aggressive in the trade and free agency period
We have holes in our list everywhere and plenty of players on our list not up to it or we could trade

Because we don't have holes in our list everywhere nor do we have plenty of players on our list who aren't up to it.

Money would also be a factor, as would desire to get back into the draft after a couple of years absence from the early rounds.

Are you actually serious

In Austin we trust, Durdin and Motlop have been rippers solid selections given the picks at our disposal and Carroll , Parks are something to work with.
Austin should do well if we end up wit a top 10.

Grundy is not the path to sustained success. Pre trade Medicals have not shortened our injury list. A 50% salary dump still burdens our cap by 500,000

Parks will be delisted and Carroll has had one good game. Motlop it's too early and Durdin looks good. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I havent been able to see any afl apart from highlights this year, due to lack of coverage. But great to see the VFL replays. It would be a shame to trade Stocker ? I havent read through earlier posts but are there still questions on him outside the game?...his showung against Coberg this yeae is worth a look as to what he can do. Given there are always questions on Plows form and Docs ability to play a season with intensity.
A big contract worth offloading would be Martins if possible. Not sure on Williams yet. At least Saad has become a better version of Yarran across half back. A few people have suggested it would be good to see him on a wing a some point, that could be a way to keep him going over the long haul.
Mirkovs development has been good to see, should become a handy player if this continues.
Carlton need these finals for nothing else other than experience, to see a season past the regular matches. Our VFL games seem to mirror what I see in the league, it has more to do with lack of cohesion and players working as a team. Always seem to be outnumbered over the ground, contesting each other or letting opposition work free, guarding space etc . Our VFL needs to work on these issues as much as the 1sts, having that opportunity within the club gives us a chance.
