Read this morning's press...

Ratagolea now in love with Geelong and never really wanted to leave. In any case I have watched him a couple of times this year and he isn't that good. His last game against Hawthorn was his best for the year but most of the Geelong side had a day out against the Hawks. I think he is a bit of a front runner who goes well when the rest of the side is doing well.

Esava can get stuffed, we move on.

It’s easy to look good as a CHB when your team kicks 10 goals to 1 inside 50.

I didn’t think he was that good. Flew when he needed to stay down and body the forward too often. You could see the “forward” come out in him.

Last week a few of us were talking up Jack Lukosius as a key forward. I would go after him as a tall defender. Saw his game against Freo yesterday and he was everywhere with 19 disposals and 12 marks which is not bad for a 195cm player.

The problem is Lukosius is contracted until the end of 2026 and we do not have much in the way of Draught picks to throw at Gold Coast.

If not next year he should definitely be a target when his current contract expires and he is a RFA.

I reckon we should run a Finlayson/Lukosius ruck combo. How do you reckon that would go, TeeKray

We have to get Lukosius first and if we could get him before 2026 I would run him as a second tall defender with Aliir. The problem is Aliir will be 32 in 2026 so if we want run both players in defence we would need to get Lukosius out of his contract otherwise he will become a replacement for Aliir rather than a second tall defender.

Yes I also think we should spend the $800k a year or so it would take to get Luko and then play him in a position that he's already been tried and failed in at AFL level.

Not keen on Luko. In defence he’d be more of an intercept guy, which we already have. Hasn’t really worked out for him up forward either. We need a 194cm+ defender who can play on the opposition’s monster forwards.

Ben McKay 9 disposals 1 mark in a backline that conceded 33 marks inside 50. Is he worth $800K a year or do we put some time into Brynn Teakle as a tall defender at about a third the cost?

He'll be alright. Potting Mckay for this loss is like potting Aliir back in round 2. Not a lot he can do when the midfield turns to water

Would be very hesitant to pay any defender 800k per season, let alone a speculative player like McKay.

I’m not saying Teakle is the answer but lots of clubs can develop low draft picks players into very serviceable defenders with good coaching

If I was going to throw a shit ton of money at a player, Sam Draper thanks.

I know absolutely ungettable, but imagine him, JHF, Butters and Rozee at the centre bounces.

They don't have a first round pick this year which means it will be difficult to acquire a good player via trade unless they moved on a player or two such as Bergman, Georgiades etc.

It means the free agency route is going to be the most likely avenue.
