Pickett is probably the 4th priority right now behind, Key defender, ruck, and key defender 2.
No way, he’s a match winner. he’d be my number 1, plus he’s very much gettable. these blokes win games, he plays well and we win.

will transform our forward line instantly.

Look what rankine brings to the crows and this guy is better.

then a key defender and then a ruckman.

Our small forward stocks remain a concern, along with ruck and key defenders. Visentini, Kyle Marshall, McCallum and Pasini all look like pretty good options long term but none are likely to be regular, high level contributors before mid 2024 at the earliest.

I can’t see who our next electric, dangerous small forward is. Almost every team has got one. The two we were banking on have considerable issues with fitness and/or their games. Both look very much like downhill skiers. I thought Rioli would fight more to keep the ball in our forward line. He’s brought nothing since round 1.

I Dont agree with everything you say ... But I 100% agree with this. If he wants to come, then you do a JHF on him, and go all-in to get him to Port.

Key Defender NO1 priority
If we don't play a young ruckman this season to find out what we have in our own backyard. Then we need to bring in a ruckman.
Who are we trading out for us to bring in Pickett and Co

Don't really think he is at Rankine's level, but he is pretty good, and better than what we currently have.

How about Lachie Schultz? Free agent. Half forward/crumber. Good defensively.

Alex Neale Bullen also a FA - great runner. HFF and midfielder. Good defensively.

Both are FAs and both would add to HFF defence and run. Both seem to be steady kicks for goal.

What are people’s thoughts on Himmelberg?

Considering the academy and father sons coming through and tight cap and list space, Gold Coast and the lions look ripe for some clever trading for picks and salary dumps. Devon Robertson, Malcolm Rosas, Cal Ah Chee, Joel Jeffrey - spring to mind. Hell I would have Rory Atkins here if it nets us a first rounder like Geelong, probably even a second rounder

Alex Neal-Bullen is a poor man's Sam Gray. One of the most poorly skilled players in the AFL.

I don’t know how people think we have a good list. Honestly, I think our midfield is massively unbalanced with too many inside mids and our list depth is very average. We have zero good ruck prospects. Pasini is our only hope of developing into an AFL KPD and even at best he’s never gonna be a star. We have some very very good young Mids sure, And Marshall/George can hold down our forward line for the next 5+ years. But outside of that it’s decidedly below par.

The farm was mortgaged for JHF leaving us with a dearth of future trade picks (to land the big fish).
We have a propensity for of trading back into the draft, so we may encourage a few Melbourne boys to explore their options.

Free agency is the go; albeit the City of Churches is not a destination for young men not born in SA (and who home was in the big smoke, like Melbourne).
So, look for any tall Expats coming out of contract (and Vic country boys).

What farm?

If we went to the draft with those picks and got one JHF and missed with the rest we'd call that a success.

Yes, we have a genuinely good list.

Young good proven kf stock in Marshall and Georgiades, finlayson with plenty of games ahead of him. Young untried players behind them in Scully and lord.

Young mids galore in jhf, rozee butters duursma Bergman drew and sinn. Players around them like Burgoyne, Houston and burton with time left on their clock and the list goes on.

Our main problem isn’t list, it’s the coach. He’s a proven failure. He’s failed across multiple iterations of his first 22 and talents.

Our list does have issues, mainly the holes in key defense and ruck. Our list isn’t perfect, but it’s well stocked with enough talent to take us anywhere with the right coach.

Zerk-Thatcher is coming off a contract, bombers fans seem confident he’ll re-sign but surely we make a play.

Yeah I’m interested.

He’s an Sa lad, he’s the right height (195cm) to work with what we’ve got, and a good age (25 next season) to slot straight in and play.

My concern is he is showing alright form, but is it very good form? Can he be an high end key defender?

Also looking at his stats his 1 on 1s stats are kinda low.

I haven’t watched him this year, and barely remember him from watching him in previous years so can’t speak to how accurate that stat speaks to his ability to defend 1 on 1 or as to his overall possibility for growth in his game.

In any case, whether he projects to be decent or much better than decent with our list needs going after him seems a no brainer.

My desperate efforts to find attainable defenders also uncovered Will Gould from Sydney.

He's not the big need of that monster KPD, but at 191cm and a solid build eliminates Jonas' chances on getting the job on those 'in-between' matchups which I feel we need anyway cos we only really have Pasini waiting in the wings.

Gould was rated in his draft year and captained SA, won Sydney's VFL player of the year award last season, contracted til end of this season. Hasn't yet been given a game, I reckon it's an easy deal.

EDIT: Here's a draft profile Will Gould

The lad is playing in the curtain raiser to our match on Saturday. By the way he’s # 30.

From that list, KPD I would be thinking about, that might be cheaper and just as reliable as Ben McKay,who makes Fanta look like an iron man:
  • GWS Lachlan Keefe. Old, but tall. Able to do a job if required and would free up Aliir to roam, and allow Marshall time to develop for a year or two.
  • Rich Bigoa Nyuon. Free swing at a second Aliir. Better than stockpiling multiple Mac and Cheese lites
  • WCE Jeremy McGovern. Am I crazy? A couple of years, try and get him fit? If it doesn’t work out no biggie?

This all assumes that at least Jonas retires, and possibly Clurey gets traded. McKenzie, based on two games, looks good to keep rolling around tbh.

Will Gould is 1cm shorter than Steve May & 1kg heavier than him. We should see him in the senior side this week, with the McCartin bro’s out.
