From that list, KPD I would be thinking about, that might be cheaper and just as reliable as Ben McKay,who makes Fanta look like an iron man:
  • GWS Lachlan Keefe. Old, but tall. Able to do a job if required and would free up Aliir to roam, and allow Marshall time to develop for a year or two.
  • Rich Bigoa Nyuon. Free swing at a second Aliir. Better than stockpiling multiple Mac and Cheese lites
  • WCE Jeremy McGovern. Am I crazy? A couple of years, try and get him fit? If it doesn’t work out no biggie?

This all assumes that at least Jonas retires, and possibly Clurey gets traded. McKenzie, based on two games, looks good to keep rolling around tbh.
McKenzie is our best one on one defender and yet he is being played out of position (by necessity because we lack tall defenders).
Imagine what his boot could do if he played on the wing: his kick to setup Marshall's goal in the last quarter was sublime.

Gcs tried McKenzie on a wing for years and it failed.

Undersized key defender is his position.

McKenzie is remarkably effective as an undersized key defender. His ability to spoil with the flight of the ball and not interfere with the forward player is uncommonly good.

If it we had a 195cm+ KPD other than Allir (so he can be played to his strengths), then McKenzie as the third 'KPD' would be fine. It's having two undersized KPD's, forcing AA into not being played to his strengths that's a domino effect of bad to worse.

If Mitch wants to go back to Perth then we need to be talking to Sean Darcy.

PORT Adelaide is hopeful of locking away 2019 first-round picks Mitch Georgiades and Miles Bergman to new deals in the near future, with the pair of talented youngsters due to come out of contract at season's end.
The Power selected Bergman with pick No.14 in the 2019 AFL draft and claimed Georgiades just four picks later, with both players flashing glimpses of their immense potential throughout the first four years of their careers.
Marking forward Georgiades has parked contract talks as he hopes to work his way back into Port Adelaide's senior team, having been dropped after managing just two goals from his first two games of the season.

If both don't sign by mid season they are gone unfortunately... only positive is a better draft hand compared to at the moment

Only way i could see either of them leaving as a positive is if it somehow nets us a mid / early 20s KPB

If we can recruit free agents our list is ok. Ie glaring hole in key position defender stocks. We have a big cash war chest.

Issue for us, it is much easier as Vic club to trade in gaps in lists because of the larger pool of players, and the GWS, GC feeder scenario.

So realistically, if we can’t get Himmelberg/McKay or both we might be 3-5 years from being a premiership threat, when our tall drafted players come through…

Unpopular opinion - but If Pickett is available, and Georgi/Bergman re-sign, I’d actually be willing to trade out Wines.

He isn’t really Captain material otherwise he would have been a couple of years back, instead of sole Jonas. I don’t think he is ruthless enough- he is Mr Nice Guy.

I think in todays quicker game, SPP and Drew could easily cover his position. And age profile wise it makes sense.

We have been a mid table team for a while. Sure we made a prelim or 2, but we were always a star player short

Have to land at least one of McKay, Ratugoela, Himmelberg or Zerk Thatcher

Read this morning's press...

Ratagolea now in love with Geelong and never really wanted to leave. In any case I have watched him a couple of times this year and he isn't that good. His last game against Hawthorn was his best for the year but most of the Geelong side had a day out against the Hawks. I think he is a bit of a front runner who goes well when the rest of the side is doing well.

Esava can get stuffed, we move on.

We weren't super enthusiastic about going for Esava again at the end of last trade period.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is us that had moved on first.
