But we were never going to get access to Ashcroft or Kako eg. So there bids pushing our number pick back means nothingWhich will be the 15th best kid.

It makes a difference to me when we trade out a player who is in the top 22 in the afl, as in the all Australian team, to get the 15th rated kid in the country.Including Father Son and Academy prospects.. Yes, whom we don't have access to anyway
But are they? Most people I know think it's a big wank fest and are sick of it.And yet people are talking about it all day. They have sponsors, viewers/listeners - it doesn't matter that it's 99% bullshit in the first week, people are tuning in.
It has nothing to do with the time needed to get deals done.
Ratugolea didn't have an awful season at all playing quite a few different roles. If we'd picked him up for pick 48 (which is probably around what we should have paid) and people viewed him as a project big guy which he is, he'd probably be looked at pretty favourably.
He has the curse of always being linked to a first rounder because that's what we gave up for no reason in order to acquire him.

If Hotton is there at 13 then we take him, if not I'd like us to split we Sydney for 19 and 22So.. who do we take at 13, 29 ?
Or do we try and on-trade for better picks?
This is the same Soldo who St Kilda refused to give up more than a future 4th rounder for, right? That's his value. You and I have different definitions of 'important'.Soldo was also acquired as part of the trade. Important detail omitted.
Barely a salary dump. Reported to be on only $400k next season, that’s less than the AFL average.Sal dump for GC?
Yep but we gave up more than just the first no?Soldo was also acquired as part of the trade. Important detail omitted.
Value is not defined by the now in this case, but was defined by the then, without the benefit of the hindsight you continue to draw upon like you are some sort of oracle. This is the same Soldo who St Kilda refused to give up more than a future 4th rounder for, right? The reality is we should never have given up a future first for either of those blokes and if we'd finished 12th right now it would look like the worst trade ever.
Pretty cool how I managed to draw on the benefit of hindsight by hating the deal before the last 12 months even happened isn't it?Value is not defined by the now in this case, but was defined by the then, without the benefit of the hindsight you continue to draw upon like you are some sort of oracle.
Im not talking about hindsight, Im saying ignore his season entirely and focus on the trade. This is what everyone was saying then and Id stand by it even if he won our b&f.I don’t know full details. I think we split 2024 R1 for two picks held by Freo in the 2023 R2.
Hindsight is always a wonderful thing. We aren’t even yet in a position to judge the merits of the trade as the player drafted with the pick given up is an unknown. We might also get something back for Soldo (seems unlikely).
Agree with most of this post, but couldnt disagree more with this.Pretty cool how I managed to draw on the benefit of hindsight by hating the deal before the last 12 months even happened isn't it?
Here's what's happened here. Port traded a first round pick for two average depth players. The majority immediately hated it. You said to give it time. We did, and it turned out even worse than we thought it would when we hated it 12 months ago. You're now claiming that the deal only looks bad 'with the benefit of hindsight', because apparently you don't know what the word hindsight means.
I mean in terms of the players we brought in. I legitimately thought Soldo and Ratugolea would be best 22 for us all year. And I still hated it. That's how bad a deal it was.Agree with most of this post, but couldnt disagree more with this.
If we'd finished 15th rather than 2nd it would have sacrificed a top 5 pick for them.
We literally ended up in the best possible timeline for judging the trade yet it still looks like shit.
