If you read the qoutes its not official, just a possibility however it makes you question the MC role for Mark Austin. If Mcguire is drafted as a CHB, does it mean Austin becomes a forward because he has his name on CHB for the next 10 years.

Maguire's body just isn't up to playing AFL.

Pass.

The Saints lost Hudghton and Allen to retirement, yet they still delisted Maguire.

Go Figure...

I hope this is an indication we're not going after Robertson who is nothing but a list clogger.

Maguire in mix to join training

"We'll consider maybe asking Matty Maguire to train with us, but [as for] the rest I think we're pretty happy with the list we've got," Harvey said of the club's intentions for December's NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft.

"We cover most bases with young guys, we think, and the holes that we have got we think we're capable of covering them.

There was no need to keep our cards close to our chest with Robertson who would be Carlton's if we wanted him.

No Robertson. :thumbsu:

I don't think we need him, so pass. Did Kite train with us I'm not really interested just wondering. We don't need Robbo as he is lazy but he does kick goals and take freakish marks yet I'll pass.

Bring him down Carlton. He could be very handy. Get him on minimum wage, make him work for his spot and I guarantee you he will deliver. He can play and everyone has seen it. Whether he can get back to his best? It's possible! He's running and he's fit so get him down. Nothing to lose:thumbsu:

I don't mind this, if it happens. The draft is said to be thin as we all know so I wouldn't be against giving him a shot if he trains well with us. He would give us experience and strength which I wouldn't mind having in either our inexperienced backline/forward lines.

Certainly wouldn't be against this move. As long as his medical results come back ok, and he can get a full pre-season under his belt, then we should definately get him into the club. Can play forward or back, and certainly would provide us with more flexibility with our big blokes.

Hard to imagine this working out well. St Kilda would not have de-listed him if he was any realistic chance of getting back to his best. He was very respected as a player and a clubman and key defenders are getting a little thin on the ground at St Kilda. I suspect Harvey is thinking about the player he was rather than the player he is. However, if Carlton are open minded about recruiting Maguire, obviously the best way of making an informed decision is to observe him in training for a while so I generally support them inviting him down.

One of the interesting parts of the article is where Harvey is suggesting that Carlton are pretty happy with their list and do not see any particular holes that need filling.

What's Mick Martyn up to these days?

Might as well extend a training invite down his way as well.

Only if they used him as part of a fund raising exercise...

I'd pay good money to kick the tosser in the balls... and I think that there would be a fair few people right behind me

"It won't be one guy," he said. "Obviously you can't just replace a guy that kicks the amount of guys that he does. It will be more of a restructure of the whole set-up and that's another thing that we're excited about."

Aphrodite, you sure Harvs wasn't referring to Setanta
