McLeod doesn't feel like past players are welcome at the Crows

My earliest memory of being a crows supporter was going to the shed after games with my Auntie when I would of been 8 years old in the year 2000.
Current players would go after games and "mingle". It felt like a real football club.

We dont currently have that feel as a club and it saddens me that our administration has done this to our ex players.

That's like with Chris McDermott.

I heard him once talk about the next generation program and how he went there with his son, but felt a bit uncomfortable being there.

It felt like a strange thing to say, but I do remember McDermott publicly declaring once that he has no emotional attachment to the club so maybe it was his own issues and not the club making him feel that way.

I do think the club needs to embrace it's former players and maybe this is why we need social facilities so people like McLeod, McDermott etc actually have somewhere to go and an actual club that they can visit.
In the same way I think some of this is on Andrew

McDermott left under certain circumstances and he held opposing views on whether they were the right circumstances

Andrew - in his comments - seems to be a person who is a quieter more reserved person and wants to be approached to feel welcome. Yet ironically its his greatness that seems to hold people back in approaching him

Maybe the club thinks having Andrew working at the club is enough and nothing more needs to be done to make him feel welcome.

One thing I will agree is its a shit look for a ''club'' trying to manouver through the next 12-18 months

We all remember that, it just rarely happens.

Hell most clubs don't even play where their "club" is. We will have a venue at some point, but this isn't the issue Bunji has, it's far deeper than that.

I reckon it shows just how big of a cancer Roo has become.

He comes out and immediately defends the club after the only bloke who could lay a claim to his throne says a negative

It’s not like we didn’t know the culture at the club is awful. It wasn‘t just Burton and Pyke, they were products of a larger scale issue.

Like I said in the Hammond thread, it's been a long time. Whilst some of the older heads were around in a player sense we were ok.

I think Bunji although he's been absolute champion of the club just seems to be more generally a malcontent away from football....Like with the continuing feud with Tyson FFS build a bridge and get over it.
There was something mentioned about him being in the Triple M bunker and him mentioning Modra also being there and getting more attention made me feel partly that his issue isn't that he's not welcomed, but we don't make the extra special effort to welcome him over all the other players.

It has to be the board. And by the board I mean Chapman. I despise that man.
We know at least half the board are his clones, him going only lessens the issues if none of the clones want to do the job

Not sure if this has been discussed elsewhere

McLeod saying that the club doesn't embrace past players. If he feels this way with the work he still does at the club, imagine how the rest of our past players feel. An indictment on the club admin.

FFS he’s not even A past player. He’s THE greatest player we’ve ever had!!!

he should have his own entrance. Not one just named after him, but only for his use. 24/7

We chose to plaster a giant VB on our main entrance instead.

I find his comments hard to believe. Maybe its because we don't have a licensed club like other clubs to mingle in and its just a place of work but it is full of ex players. Maybe we just hire the miserable ones.

There is only one club in the league which has it, and the link is rather tenuous in the Port Club due to Ports rather unique relationship with a pre-existing SANFL club.

Licenced venues died with professionalism, as they did in all sports.

For guys like Macca I'd be regularly inviting them to talk to the current players. He's been there done that, knows what is required to win. Why wouldn't we want our players to hear from him? Plus the indigenous blokes would love it. Baffling if this hasn't occurred to anyone.

Hasn't it been happening for years? We've been linked with him with the "Ready Set Crow" and he's regularly photographed with the indigenous boys as well.

From an article in 2017:

McLeod, who has designed the striking indigenous guernsey the Crows’ women’s team will wear for three games in its inaugural AFLW season, and his wife Rachael run five programs as part of the McLeod Centre of Excellence at Adelaide Football Club.

Even from that article where his unwelcomed feeling was mentioned:

After retiring from playing in 2010, McLeod, an AFL hall of famer, has managed the Crows' indigenous programs and also assisted the club's AFLW team in 2018.

Sounds like we've gone above and beyond to get him included.

Look at the way the club is run in every facet. It's a shambles. Why would their connection with past players be any different?

Since 2017 it's been stacks on the mill on the AFC, but things only stick if there's substance to them. We're an easy target because we put the target up ourselves.

It's a fair conflict of opinions, but we do need to sort whatever this is out.

There can be a difference between getting jobs here and there and feeling welcome.
