These player and coach interviews really are a waste of time, aren't they. The same old tripe, lip service, cliches all the time.
It's all subjective, nothing objective. "We will train harder today and Thursday" sort of thing, well FMD, what have you been doing these past six months - not training? This club desperately needs a new voice, a new attitude, not words about synergy etc.

Barich should be limited to three questions per presser, asks the most inane crap possible.

As a condition of entry to the pressers he should also be made to sit in the corner wearing a dunce hat.

No Oscar, you blokes ARENT owning it. And that's why we supporters are angry.

"Owning it" implies that you are both aware of the problem AND taking corrective action to fix it. If I made a mistake in my own workplace and "owned it" as you guys do, I would have rightfully lost my job years ago.

Life goes on mate - so do contracts in a socialist workplace.

Yes, I wondered if the Yeo tragedy affected the whole group as happened with Freo, although that was the death of a former player.

But Allen had that determined resolve that they were absolutely going to take this Melbourne game on with more intent, pressure and ownership - yet this is what they should be doing every game? they were 'gonna own it' after Saints game and again after the Roos game, then had a bye to rest, prepare and re-set and own it...?

There's no guarantee they'll win against Melbourne again, away on their home deck, but they need to put up a strong fight.
Interesting point Allen made was 'if players don't perform they'll lose their spots going forward'...appears to be a point made in the players review since the game?

We have a squad of 40-odd players, 23 get picked each week. Of the remaining, a portion are injured or simply not ready. Our WAFL team is performing poorly so no one is knocking down the door. The credits line might amuse some people, I get it, it’s a simple joke, but perhaps the reason some people have been picked after poor performances is we simply don’t have the cattle yet. That’s what happens when you have a poorly balanced squad.

You're probably right but part of the problem is we don't know. This year we have Zane Trew doing all he can as an inside mid in the wafl yet is yet to play a full game as an inside mid at AFL. Last year Winder started showing something as a midfielder at WAFL but only ever played forward pocket at AFL level. Greg Clark wasn't drafted as an 18 year as an outside player. Gets drafted by us 6 years later after transforming into an inside bull but only plays games at AFL as a winger.

Yes I know we can hardly afford to take punts and allow lower reputation players, play AFL in their preferred position. I mean our midfield might get destroyed and the scoreboard might get out of hand. Can't imagine what that feels like.

So we replace kid getting belted in the AFL with those getting belted at WAFL level. Sounds promising! We need to recruit and draft quality - no trade downs or pick splitting.

Even if the players in wafl are no good play them if they try hard and drop players if not putting in enough effort. Maybe then the club will be saying to the players i don't care about your skill level, it's the attitude which is most important

The only players putting up numbers in the WAFL are Gaff, Trew and Culley… all got a go. Now some will say Trew needs to play in the guts but none of Yeo, Kelly, Reid or Ginbey are the ones that need a kick up the bum. Earlier this year we played Rawlinson and Johnstone. Neither put up big numbers, not that I would expect them to this soon. But what then is the message if they stay in? Until we get a better balanced squad with players 20-25 forcing out senior players, we’re gonna have this issue. It’s part of the rebuild.

I suspect Trew and Culley would disagree with the notion that they “got a go”, certainly not in their preferred position. One played one game as a late inclusion, started as sub then came on and lined up in the forward 50 for all but one centre bounce. The other played one game, got banished to the forward line after half time then dropped.

Yeah, look, I’d have liked to see Culley get a longer gig. But I’ve also put a line through Trew. I think good WAFL player is his ceiling and he simply isn’t displacing the people that are in the middle right now. That all said, none of us know if there are other issues at play. We’re all just interested observers.

Drop players for lack of effort in afl for players who try hard but have poor production in wafl. At least that would show effort is the top priority, regardless of skill

Either way it's not fair to say they've gotten a go at AFL level this year.

On what basis are you putting a line through Trew? Has never had a proper chance.

Trew could quite easily play Kelly's position in mid, because Kelly's best position isn't where he's currently playing.

I dunno how you can look at a goal-kicking mid/HF, who finished third in the Brownlow, and decide he'd be great as an inside brute, but somehow Simmo managed to do it...

We have Ryan and Brockman doing that HF/mid role now, maybe we play them deeper but I dont think a deep crumbing forward sort of role suits either of them tbh.

Its either Ryan deep, Kelly HFF and Trew/Culley mid, or Darling deep, Ryan HFF and Kelly mid.

Well, Ryan could play that small forward role he was AA at, for starters.

Brockman and Kelly to float between HFF and mid/wing, so they're on hand to receive 2nd possession.

I liked Ryan in mid but that's because the current setup is far too stale without Harley in there. Nobody else seems to get clean possession and look to get into space before kicking the ball.

Yeo and Kelly mostly bomb it and Ginbey fumbles before offloading a handball.

Once Hewett back that's a completely different story but Kelly's strengths isn't to get the ball to feed it to the outside, he's the one that should be on the outside himself.
