Not sure where to out this but one of the worst teams I’ve seen made up
Seriously?

No-one from the Lions 3-peat from the early part of the century.

Only Judd from the dominant WC/Sydney era.

The two best midfields ever (Bne, WC) have the grand total of one representative.

Full of Collingwood and Geelong players.

Multiple tall KP backs etc.

Joke.

I think the problem with our current song is that they don't play it loud enough. They should turn the volume up to 11 and it will be a banger.
Yeah nah.
The biggest problem with our current song is that it's a steaming pile of shit.
You can play it so loud that the astronauts on the ISS can hear it and it would still be a shit song.

"Sam Mitchell reached out...

Opposition coach approaches contracted player during the season. And then:

Barrass also shared the mental burden that leaving his former club left on him during the uncertain period between requesting a trade and landing at the Hawks.

Only for them to play silly buggers with the trade.

The whole debacle from start to finish was a massive dog campaigner move by the Hawks and I hope they choke big time this year.

Lol at "needed a change in my life". If that change was a larger bank account then checks out.

Not slamming him for that - if you're offered more money to go to the same job you're already very good at then you'd be silly not to. But let's not frame it as something more than looking for more coin there TB.

I know the club gets criticised a lot for being a soft touch in trade negotiations which has some validity, especially when bringing players to the club….

But I do kinda like that when we target a player and get him to request a trade to us, we get the deal done without the sort of shenanigans Hawthorn pulled in the Barrass trade

People will point to them being ruthless which is fair enough but there’s a fine line between that and being too easy to deal with

I have no idea how much difference it makes when players are choosing clubs if one club has a better track record of negotiating trades smoothly than another but I don’t think it would hurt

Agree. There must be some clubs who are respected as really tough - but reasonable - in trading. And then there’d be others …

The stunt Hawthorn pulled will (hopefully) come back to bite them. I’m sure it’ll be remembered by more than just our recruiters.

As elsewhere in life being a prick might win you a battle or two but probably not the war.

Just another reason to death ride the Hawks.

But you don't commit to a player that you will do whatever it takes to get a trade done for them. You give them an idea of what you value them at and will be willing to trade and let them make the call on whether they think that is going to be enough. If that means some of the players you court get second thoughts and don't want to request a trade because you won't "guarantee" it then so be it. I would rather that than overpay on every trade. If you put yourself in a position where you can't walk away like we did then you have lost the negotiation before it even began.

And lets not kid ourselves. There will be no repercussions for Hawthorn. There will be no trades that would have hapenned in the future that now don't happen because they rag dolled us last trade period.

Personally, I think that whilst not quite to the same degree we got back at Hawthorn a little by making them pay more for TB than they would've liked anyway. It just unfortunately took the trade with Carlton to get to that point.

And in the end it all worked out quite well for use considering how the draft panned out.

The main comeuppance though, will be if the Hawks somehow fall off a cliff this year. So let's just hope Hawthorn ended up ****ing themselves over.

Clubs or coaches reaching out to players under contract isn’t an issue, it’s how you lay the groundwork for trades. You can bet we were in Baker’s ear and now Warner’s. Each club has to look after its own list first and foremost.

Agreed

Selective quoting there.

Barrass then revealed the domino effect that took place after he tested the waters of the market, with Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell - who played with and coached Barrass in his short stint at West Coast - getting in contact with the star to bring him over to Waverley.
