Wish I'd posted this earlier, as it was something I was thinking about. But I wonder if the reason we're only taking one at the draft tomorrow is that we don't want to put Doc on the Inactive List... just in case he could get back for the finals. Now, seeing that he is back to running, I'm thinking this might be more than a possibility. Similar to McStay at the Pies.

An interesting thought.

Could we have placed HOK on the LTI list?

Not overly unusual that we might only be taking one player in the MSD, but I just don't see a downside to taking 2 players

There was a report out of the club a few months back saying the club is now fully engaged in securing an NGA zone and hadn’t until this year given it the required planning and attention.

Which to me seems weird but is an indication of how far behind we have been over the journey.

Haven't we had the Northern Knights catchment area as our NGA zone for quite a while? Last year our NGA team which was made up from the Adam Saad pathways Boys Academy beat both the Essendon & Western Bulldogs NGA teams by over 50 points in the Western Conference. From memory we have Gresham's younger brother in there who will be tied to us if he lasts past pick 40.

Between this and the revelation Russell had too many areas of responsibility to cover in his initial appointment, it beggars belief that Brad Lloyd still has a job.

It also makes you wonder what the point of that external review done in 2021 was if things like the 2 glaring gaps identified recently are only being actioned now.
To give the president the authority to punt the CEO and coach while remaining at arms length of the decision.

Nah I reckon there is a snow ball’s chance in hell that Doc is back this season.

The risk of re-injury coming back inside a year is too high and if he was to not get back next year he would be done.

If he’s only just started running freely, he would be almost 6 months away. Zac Williams was running around the bye last year, yet didn’t join full training until early this year

Unless he is planning on retiring.

Yeah, I’m in the ‘take two MSD selections’ camp. Obviously without being privy to the club’s inner thinking, but seems like an easy no brainer (especially for a Vic-based player). But I’m also confident the club has a clear recruitment plan going forward, so I’m comfortable.

Can you imagine the melts on here? An earlier than prescribed return.

Not a medico, but clearly was a minor/partial tear, given his return to the game. Not sure that means a quicker rehab period.
There'd be double the melts if he returned too early and suffered a setback.

I’d also like somebody with an AFL ready name;

Patrick Power
Luke Lightfoot
Harry Highmark
Jesus Jet

….something like that?

Pretty sure the Wayne Hughes / Shane Rogers era would have recruited these 2023 draft nominees.

Mackenzie Butcher
Ry Cantwell
Darcy Craven and/or Jesse Craven
Joseph Hinder
CJ Small
HB Flanker (OK, I made that one up)

Also not a medico, but I think a full tear would potentially hurt less. The ACL itself doesn't hurt that much. It's the bone bruising that will get ya initially (unfortunately, can confirm).

Partial tear would get aggravated more methinks.

It pisses me off that we can’t get basic information like which Knights players are eligible to be picked up. The Knights who had been terrible for a long time, have finally started coming good, with most of their players playing for Parade college which is currently the top football school, but it still doesnt seem like the Knights have any players eligible for us.

I dont know the exact numbers but have been told most Knights players go to Parade college.

Don't forget our perennial over-achiever whose name is mentioned week in week out but is yet to kick a goal: Sakc Russell

Top? The APS schools might dispute that.

I think we can take Agresta at his word that we didn't want to take 2 players knowing we would definitely have to delist one at the end of the year. Not very fair on that guy who quits his day job to join us for 3 months then gets punted.

We're already adding Duffy plus 2x Camporeales that's already causing a bit of an issue. We don't exactly have a raft of retirees at the end of the season.

Will be interesting to see - if we go for Peris it's a bit of a sign that we're not entirely happy with the small forwards we're currently running with.

To me he looks like he fits a need. Fantasia and Billy were brought in to add pace. Billy's too young and Fantasia has lost that express pace. Peris is lightning quick.

Peris is an interesting one. That one game he played for the Saints he had 13 touches, 3 marks, 3 inside 50s and 4 tackles. I have no other context of his career and sure he didn't kick a score, but if he was playing forward as a youngster on debut it's not the worst game, stats wise.

Especially given 60% game time. I'd argue that's an excellent debut.

A reason I hadn’t considered. That would definitely make the decision to take one player make sense.
