Traded Mitch McGovern [traded to Carlton in a three-way trade involving Sydney and McAdam]

Simply towing the company line. And acting as the professional he is. 100% wanted out and home to Adelaide. Fact, straight from his best mates mouth.

Yet he had one of his best year to date and helped Carlton force Adelaide to pony up 2 first rounders for him, something Adelaide had refused to do a year earlier :)

If Gibbs was happy to stay he wouldn't have requested a trade 2 years in a row
You’d think these Blues supporters could get their head around this wouldn’t you? Just because he carried on like a professional after not getting his own way doesn’t mean he was ‘happy’ to stay. Far from happy

Gibbs didnt want to leave he had a baby and his girlfriend wanted support from her family.

Honestly, I haven't done any thinking on it. I could see him strengthening St Kilda? WB, Essendon, Hawthorn or North Melbourne. But I don't know there situations.
None of those teams have a need to trade for Mitch bar Hawthorn and I can't see how Hawthron could possibly make a trade for both Mitch and Wingard. St Kilda have Membrey playing a similar role better than Mitch does, Essendon are blessed with great depth in key forward players and don't have a need for Mitch either as they already have Stringer, Daniher, Mckernan, Stewart and Hooker if they want to play key forward roles. The Bulldogs have brought in a lot of young talls in recent years, so they probably will focus on improving their midfield by keeping their early picks. While North could use Mitch, but if they trade for Polec, Hall and Newman I can't see how they would have enough trade currency for McGovern considering they would also want a pick to match bids for Taryn Thomas. Early days, but looks like it Carlton or nothing unless Mitch changes his mind about only moving to a victorian team.

Omg lol, it’s you Adelaide supporters that can’t get your head around it.

Gibbs played one of his best years to date directly afterwards, basically strengthening Carlton’s hand even more and forcing Adelaide to pony up the 2 first rounders you had adamantly refused to give a year earlier.

Doesn’t sound like someone who was unhappy with his club. He wanted to leave for personal reason, nothing to do with being unhappy at the club, and so played a stellar season to force Adelaide to compensate Carlton appropriately.

You may well be right, we haven't even got to trade week(s) yet so there is a lot to play out.

What I will say is that what you have said has nothing to do with McGov nominating Carlton, which is the point I am making. My point may be mute, however that has to do with lack of competition not with the nomination.

Correct SOS will get the deal done we know two seconds isnt acceptable to the crows the AFC have said that

I'm sure Govs manager knows what needs to get the deal done and it has already been discussed with both the AFC and CFC

We just need to guess what it is

I don’t mean to be rude, but it’s already been established that pk24 and 25 equate to Pk 8.
Genuine question, what part of that don’t you understand??

I think McG is realistically a late 1st, early 2nd rd pick, but, because he is contracted we have to pay more.

It's true that Carlton need to offer fair value for McGovern, I dont think Carlton intend to exploit some preceived trading weakness in Adelaide due to some camp or of not wanting to stay in Adelaide. They no doubt will be busy trying to find the right currency pick 24 and 25 are not going to cut it. Hopefully a later round 1 pick can be secured somehow which is probably where it sits.
Not sure this is really going to reduce his market value, he is contracted, a good player, potentially a great player moving forward, we just need to offer fair value which is probably a late rd 1 pick

If we had pick 16 for example would be straight forward swap. But we don't so next best thing is something like pick 25 and something more like a state league player access if someone Crows keen on, or if not someone they have in mind, that other pick 26. But I suspect us trading pick 25 and 26 could easily get us a pick around 16 and some other player we want in a trade before this.
One of these scenarios likely plays out in trade week.

So he wanted to leave....

We all understand the reasons behind his motivation but that doesn't change the outcome.

No he had to leave not wanted to leave. Carlton dont make football decisions on girlfriends it wasn't even his wife. Gibbs understood that the most like it or not all his mates are in Carlton he grew up with the club. The guy is a Bluechip Blueblood Bluebagger like Eddie Betts and all Adelaide is doing is paying for his retirement.

Off the back of 5 career games...

Pull yourself together, you’re getting a bit emotional
Yep... off the back of 5 games... that’s how terrible your list is/has been developed. You wouldn’t put your trust in many of the blokes in Carlton’s best 22 to get the job done...

Francis however... seen a few games and I’ve seen enough to know the lad is an absolute gun. Would love to see him in crows colours next year.. I definately thought there was a great chance we crows would see it... not now though. Those few games have completely blown that idea out of the park. Essendon won’t let him walk away now I wouldn’t think, not without a massive fight. And I don’t blame them.

Not emotional at all. Just telling it how I see it.

Want / Had = Leave.

That's not entirely true. He grew to love Carlton - no issue.

But the Crows were the team he grew up supporting and he really should have been a father and son (and he would have been in Vic as the rules are different).

Funny how everything becomes white noise when you don't want to listen, isn't it?

I've always said Adelaide will get a premium for him being contracted. He'll go from being worth c. pick 19-25 to around 13-15. That's your premium. It's a first round. If Adelaide don't accept something like that they'll wear the loss.
You have me confused .....how in the hell, do we wear any loss .....we're in a lossless position

A similar scenario for the blues was the Chris Yarran trade.

Chris Yarran had a year less remaining on his contract than McGovern but was a far better player and projected to be one of the leagues best if not for the extent of his off-field problems which weren't apparent until after the trade.

Carlton accepted an end of first round pick for an insanely talented, contracted player with some question marks. I imagine this is roughly what the deal will be for McGovern, a far less talented player with fewer question marks.
Oh cmon ....you dumped him, knowing exactly what his off-field problems were .....you were roundly criticized for not declaring his issues to Richmonds medical staff

It's called "dumping" .....you made out like bandits

It may so SOS might be able to find a club willing to swap those picks

The AFC have said 24 and 25 wont be accepted

Mate the guy is a Blueblooded Bluebagger and Lifemember of the club. One thing you can not take away from Gibbs is his Blueblood.

Oh god, yes he wanted to leave, but not because he was unhappy with the club, what don’t you get about that, he left to make his girlfriend happy.

Otherwise he would have been happy to remain at the club.

"But you are offering him a contract to break his contract from Adelaide."

What ? :tearsofjoy:
Well, you are actually inducing a player to break a Contract .....in the business world you could be sued, likewise you could be sued on a sporting contract .....it's just that the AFL and Clubs, do not want to use the legal system, for fear of opening Pandora's Box

No. Sam Walsh potential is far superior.
You do know .....you can't hold pick one & get all the players you've been linked too .....Arithmetic isn't a strong point for you, is it ?

One of “your “ fellow fans raised the scenario of 24/25 to Sydney for 13, which we then passed on to you for MCG.
It seemed that many agreed this was a fair outcome for all, on both sides!
24/25 if Adelaide was so inclined could potentially be turned into its true value, pk8.
But you don’t seem happy with that.
Get it out of your head that in any way, shape or fashion that you are going to turnMcG into Pk 1.
It ain’t gonna happen!!!!!

Which players are you referring to? Mitch McGovern for our first round pick? lolz.
Please, you need to check the list of players having medicals with you & with whom you're linked .....that's not my job to keep you informed
