Traded Mitch McGovern [traded to Carlton in a three-way trade involving Sydney and McAdam]

Would they. I have not read all of the posts that is for sure but the majority seem to be asking for a lot more than that! What do Carlton have pic 20 roughly?
I just don't think you've read many posts then. There have been suggestions of packaging McGovern with picks to get Carltons pick one but other than the odd crazy supporter the vast majority feel a midish first round pick is reasonable compensation, and hoping for steak knives to get thrown in as well if possible. The other option that is floated is Carlton using pick 1 to net Shiel and McGovern but it's pretty doubtful that Shiel would nominate Carlton, but that would be a really nice return if they could swing it.

Pick 15 is good for me
Problem is that pick 15 becomes a late first round pick after compo so crows would want more than that. Pick 12 I think is right for contracted player like McGovern. I think a lot of people are so focused on just the individual skillset they forget that he has played and done well in finals, deals well with pressure and will help bring structure and maturity to Carltons forward line. It's not all about skillset.

“His contract from Carlton will be much similar to the one he’s on at Adelaide, it’s more about the post code where he wants to live.”

If he was on the same money they'd have said it. What exactly 'much similar' is and how they define similar we don't know and can only speculate. For all we know they could pay him $1mil + in his first year then $550k for the rest of the contract, that could be defined as similar as the majority of the contract is similar to what he's on with the crows. We can kid ourselves all we want but a 24 year old hitting his prime sporting window isn't going to sign a long term contract of $500k. It'll be a big contract that'll be heavily front ended, and then the remaining years may well be similar to what he's on at the crows.

Then the balls in the Swannies court now to make the deal happen
I reckon we can get a better offer than that for pick 12. We could also just trade that 1st for someone decent and then burn a bunch of second rounders.... we already have 2 and will surely get more points with Rohan and hannaberry to be traded.

"We've sat down with Mitch and his management and we've got a really mature approach about it. I think you've seen that with a lot of clubs this year.

"Mitch was at the best and fairest and he was training at our facility last week.“

Farken LOL to all the Carlton trolls saying that SOS holds all the cards and that Gov can’t possibly return to the crows now.

So onto the next lot of excuses and arguments please Carlton fans...

Swans won’t have the trade capital to push into the top half a dozen picks which is what you’ll need to avoid an early bid for Blakey. You may get a different offer (eg why wouldn’t the crows just offer you 15 and 37 to get 12themselves. That’s almost 1600 points).

I reckon Blakey will go outside of the top 5. His talent has been overstated by one bitter minnow Victorian club and their media associates.

But the barrel... SOS>Reid... Mitch will sit out... the preseason camp... he looks good in blue... it's nothing like Gibbs because he hates the crows and would never play for them again...

He seems to really consistently be ranked either 6 or 7 from most of the recruitment boards I've seen. That being said I reckon if a team picked up one of the king brothers teams may hesitate to take the other one early if they couldn't get both which may push Blakey up a spot too.

Of course Adelaide will play hardball. Anybody who thought otherwise is an idiot.

I could see this trade not going through. It all hinges on Carlton's ability to package up their second rounders/mature agers. In a normal draft this wouldn't be too difficult but rumours are that the top-end of this draft is very strong and teams might not be so keen on giving up picks in the first round.

Reid made it no secret he's interested in the state league players, particularly McAdam.
McAdam is from WA. I don't see Reid going after SANFL talent unless it's home grown. Adelaide has been trying to get as many SA boys as possible in recent drafts.

Also remember Adelaide typically uses it's rookie selections for mature age SANFL players. I doubt they would accept state league players in a trade for McGovern unless it's steak knives and comes with a mid-first rounder.

Ahhhh.... i think you’ll find every single club’s list managers would be interested in the state league players.. thats their job after all.. to find talent anywhere and everywhere they can..

Doesnt make the state league players all of a sudden anymore valuable than they were last week... they are nothing more than steak knives that are slightly sharper..

I still think it'll be done but I think Carlton will have to figure out what's more important to them - mature aged players that can help their young talent develop and mature or just going back to the draft and constantly drafting young players. I feel they have enough talent to start winning games, yes another inside mid to help Cripps would be ideal, but they have enough high draft picks all over the field, they need players to bring culture and structure and help mature that talent. I personally feel Carlton should look at CEY and McGovern as a package as he would be a nice addition to their midfield and probably deserves a consistent starting role which he doesn't really get at the crows.

Plus Reid has never indicated he's interested in McAdam, that's the media being the media. I don't know how many times I need to link this guys stats to show that he will not help the crows. Avg 8 disposals a game, 2 goals, 2 tackles... he's the occasional highlight reel, not the forward 50 pressure crows want. Add to this that Stengle has just told Richmond he wants to be traded to the crows which will get done so we don't need another small forward as he fits the mold we want plus is a much better all round player than McAdam, there's no way Crows take this guy.

AND just to make things even better, the following has just been announced - "Adelaide and Port Adelaide have been given access to an increased pool of top up players for their state league sides following the Commission’s review of their licence conditions and list regulations.

The commission approved the changes in a bid to ensure the SANFL and its clubs continue to provide the best talent pathway opportunities to young South Australians, ensuring as many players as possible reach the AFL, according to SANFL football operations manager Tom Hurley.

The Crows and Power can now contract 10 players who will receive an upfront payment of up to $4000 and they are able to obtain players over 19 years of age not on the 40-player lists at the eight state league clubs. Previously, those players had to be under 25."

So in a nutshell, both Crows and Port will now have access to develop more young talent.

Yeah, i cant see it happening either.. it would take vision, courage and thinking outside the square from carlton to get this deal over the line..

Its all a bit too much for the childish SOS...

Did you love the obscure little dig at SOS that Reid threw in about conducting “mature” discussions...
as opposed to the tantrum chucking, slamming laptops shut, storming out of the room, refusing to answer phone calls and sooking in the media about another club wanting one of their contracted players that everyone saw in 2016-17 from SOS!..

It would be more valuable since they reportedly become a Cat A Rookie and paid outside the cap.

I agree with the comment about CEY. He's a decent player and a big-bodied mid. Carlton (foolishly) turned down Lyons though so maybe they don't go for that.

For a person with only 68 posts, your doing some good work. This was very informative.

Having better access to SANFL players pretty much kills any chance we go after McAdam imo. Adelaide will keep using the top-up player system to dig up some decent rookies like we did with Murphy.

See my post above about the crows getting more access to additional young development players through the SANFL. Plus the crows don't have salary cap issues so having a player we can pay outside it but who won't get a game isn't a gain to us.We'll trade for Stengle to solve our small forward area of need and then we want elite skill players, we don't need top up players as we have enough coming through the SANFL to fill holes for us.

Haha thanks bud, I've always just lurked in the background but thought I'd get involved in the community + some of the misinformation that's been posted up particularly with the preseason camp I felt needed to be corrected.

Yeah Murphy has been a nice addition to our squad, and with players like Wilson, McPherson and Hunter pushing for positions and giving us great depth we're in a comfortable position to not need additional depth players. What we do need is leg speed and game breaking players and the likes of McAdam isn't going to give us that. McGoverns had irregular impact injuries that don't have consistent causes so if he can avoid another one I honestly think this year he'll be much improved so I'm happy to keep him + hopefully we get a preseason into Tex and he returns to his 16/17 form where he was massive for our forward line.

Add to that having Brodie Smith back, our rebound game which was what our 16/17 campaign was built around should return and I expect us to be a strong side, just hoping B Crouch can get back onto the park for a full season.
