National Draft - Luke Ball

If he goes in the ND no club will stop us using pick 30 for him imo, if we pass him up at 30 expect fair game though

We should've requested mediation from the AFL.

Would have achieved nothing.

I agree with Opti.

I too believe if he nominates for the National Draft he will get to us at pick 30.

However, if we pass him up at pick 30, he would not last until our next pick which is at 62.

I'm not ebtirely sure he will last to pick 30, i'd say 50/50.

Many factors to consider.

Salary and a willingness to play for one particular team will scare off potential suitors.

You wouldn't recruit players that don't want to play for your football club and have to pay them over the odds in the process.

It's just not good business at the end of the day and it has a big influence on club culture and the standard you are trying to set.

For example, Scott Camporeale a few years ago entered the PSD in the hope of getting to Essendon who had pick4/5. We had pick 2 that year. He obviously wanted to play for Essendon. We could have chosen him but why recruit a player who does not want to be there in the first place.

It's definitely either Melb in the PSD or his chances are better than 50% IMO if he enters the national draft with an inflated asking price.

Our only competitors in the draft would probably be Essendon and Port. I can see Choco being the sort of douche who doesn't care whether a player wants to play for him or not.

It's simple, Luke needs to remain headstrong and adamant that he is not interested in being drafted by other clubs.

He needs to just "turn off" other clubs. I'm sure his management can achieve this.

Look at Gehrig and Dew as examples.

Both got to their preferred destinations.

I doubt anyone else wanted him really dunno.

Luke Ball with Pick 30 in Nat Draft

Guys, what are the chances of us using pick 30 in the National draft on Luke Ball. Obviously he would have to nominate for it, could he put something on his head, maybe 700k for first year, I am 90% sure Melb, Essendon, North wouldnt use a pick inside 30 on him. SEN stated that talks finished yesterday at 12.45 and didnt reusme,
Do we have a plan up our sleeves? we have been know to be devious at times.
Thoughts:thumbsu:
i hope we can still get him, but dont think we can in the PSD only National draft

Re: Luke Ball with Pick 30 in Nat Draft

I believe you can't put a price on your head in the national draft. Which would make us rely on a club not taking him before 30, which is highly unlikely.

Re: Luke Ball with Pick 30 in Nat Draft

Unlikely.

Teams who are coming into contention may swoop to add depth to their midfield. Geelong have pick 28, which would be their second pick in the draft, which would be a major risk. Adelaide would be a threat, maybe even Carlton, who I think got 27 from Brissy. Essendon possibly.

I would give us a 10% chance of getting him through the National draft.

Geelong are exactly 0 chance due to salary cap issues.

Carlton tend not to worry about the cap so much, but McLean and Ball in the same side seems a bit of a stretch.

Yeah, true, I agree on Geelong.

Does anyone have the updated draft order from about 20 onwards? It would be interesting to see who would potentially pick him up before us.

MElbourne are a chance, having publically approached him, and with three first round picks, but their latest one (18) is just a bit too early...

Sydney, maybe? Doggies?

If Ball really wanted to come to Collingwood he could say I don't want to play for anyone else but Collingwood then surely no other team will pick him up.

What if he says I don't want to play for anyone else but collingwood then would you want a player who doesn't want to play for Melbourne?

Yes, why? because its not that he dislikes melbourne, just that he would 'prefer' to play with collingwood.

Dean Baily and the Melbourne FC would back themselves in to 'welcome him' and change his opinion of the club. The list is a lot better than many perceive.

I'm sure after 1 year he would make new mates etc and be fine.

At the end of the day, he may have only two options,
1. embrace melbourne or
2. not play at all

Am I not the only one that laughed at just this part ;)
