Nick Stevens Could be out for the season

I would firstly like to point out I have no personal knowledge of either guys injury - just my professional view from what I have heard.

The Andrew Johns one is interesting. They never actually said (or I never heard) what the injury was in the end, though this

was the problem in the past. One would assume that the disc injury became worse and possibly starting to cause spinal cord compromise.

The problems Nick has been having (for as much as I know about them) sound not disimmilar in that there may be a disc problem. This was my feeling yesterday, and generally, minor disc bulges respond well with rest and special exercises, but (as with last year) you can carry on life.

More serious bulges can become like Johns.

My gut says that they have the scan to show the bulge, one specialist has said you'll need X time off......or retire..........and they are going for a second opinion.

IMO you would only go to Sydney for a second opinion if it was the difference between playing and retiring. Don't think they would go up their if it was to decide between 6, 10, or 19 weeks.

As I said, I hope I am wrong (happens occassionally :p ), and all the best to Nick and his family.:thumbsu:

Cheers BB

You won't be banned.

I just think it's a cop-out to say you have a reliable source on a particular issue, such as this one, without providing further details about the source.

This is BF-do you have any idea of how many posters claim to have good and reliable sources? :D

I could have easily put in a name for arguements sake..there are reasons why names can't always be mentioned..Bay 13 is for talking Sh1t

Hope the pessimism is found wrong in time, but if it's true it's shocking news for Stevens. The club will get over it, they have a number of young talented players coming through. But a bloke's career seems to be in doubt, right at the height of it, that's pretty sad.

Well, it doesn't sound good. Sound's like they're seeking a 2nd neurosurgical opinion. There's obviously something wrong structurally i.e. disc prolapse, or a possible small fracture, which they are concerned will progress under AFL match conditions. Best case is he'll rest for several weeks, worse case he'll need surgery and be out for the season. Neck injuries are serious, and the priority is obviously Nicks safety rather that footy matches. If he's out for the season, it will be disappointing, but this year was always going to be a development year for us, and I think we have enough talent to keep it together and continue to progress, ready for Stevens when he returns. :)

No so sure the club will get over it to quickly.
He is our #1 midfielder. He is in awsome form. Lots of gut running and every time he gets the ball he hits someone lace out.

We may have a bit more depth this year but our midfield is still not so strong :(

Fingers crossed

he's been very good to us and again he might get the ok by the specialist would know the exact damage hopefully its not that serious he'll be thinking will the Specalist force me to retire or wil he give me good news ;)
hope he gets good news :) it be a shame if we loose him
especally early on in the season hopefully someone will step up and win this weekend for Nick Stevens

Very sad - Stevens wasn't just in good form this year, but he was doing everything right - tackling, being more accountable, and his fitness was better.

Still, the only possible bright side is that if anyone was a Ewing theory* candidate, its Stevens - look at what happened last week when he went out of our midfield...

*google it

Wouldn't have 2 scans and see at least two doctors for jarring.

any injury to the neck, even if it is just jarring, you would take every single precaution to make sure nothing else too serious has happened, because of the serious nature of the effected area. it could just be jarring and they need to see a specialist to make sure that no further damage could occur from even simple exercise. they gotta rule out all possible risk because even the smallest neck injury could lead to spinal cord damage if you dont give it the appropriate time to heal and heal completely. there is hope yet that its nothing too serious, beacuse you'd expect the club to take any neck injuries as serious as possible. i guess we'll find out tomorrow
