I think they expected it to happen. I thought they massively overachieved last year and that they would be where they are now last year. Also a complete lack of defensive game plan probably doesn't help

No forward pressure & mids do not run 2 ways. Also lacking key position players at both ends besides Wright who has been decent.

They don't have a Plan B when Plan A goes to hell. Also they are ultimate greenhouse team.

Essendon suck. A lot of bog average players. Parish, Shiel and Merrett are 3 of the most overrated mids in the comp. Zero hurt factor. Can't stand Stringer but at least he hurts you when he gets it. Going nowhere that club..

Grossly overated by the media pre season. Believed in their own BS. Essendon could of lost in R23 and still would of made the 8 with a 10-12 w/ l record.
Hopeless. No match winners. Average players all over ground.

He is still a very good chance as there isn't really another A grade mid in the Lions midfield to take votes off him.

Lyons has dropped off massively. His good form coincided with Neale's drop off and injuries last year. He's been pushed out now.
