Lynch- how heartless.
That kid's gonna have his lunchbox smashed for sure.
Apparently Lynch had just done a media interview and so still had cameras on him - some have suggested it was good PR for him to be seeing talking to a sad kid

I just feel sorry for the kid

Agreed.
Any team watching them tonight would not be salivating at the prospect of trying to stop their attack on a 3rd flag in 4 years.
Yep! Really wanted Port Adelaide to get across the line. Reckon we have their measure. Much less confident we can beat Richmond should we get to the big dance.:disappointed:

Maybe finishing top of the ladder isn't all it's cracked up to be...

4 of the last 6 minor premiers have missed the GF and none have won the flag. The last to win it from top spot was Hawthorn in 2013. Also the only side to win it from 1st in the 2010s. Most wins in the 2010s came from 2 or 3rd. 1st is a bit of a poisoned chalice it seems. Then again, despite second or third seemingly offering a higher chance of success, Geelong hasn't succeeded in making a GF despite often finishing in these spots...

Would be nice to win, of course... but faith? I don't see why you would. Brisbane are undoubtedly nearly unbackable favourites to win tomorrow. From whatever angle you look at it, the chances of Geelong winning are very slim. There's a difference between wanting your side to win, hoping they perform, and being realistic about their actual prospects. I would like to see Geelong win tomorrow night; I very much doubt it will happen. So many of the variables tip the outcome likely going Brisbane's way.

$1.74 to $2.10 is no-where near unbackable favourites. Faith, support, hope, dreams - whatever word you want to use doesn't matter. We are in with a chance and no matter what you think, we are a chance to win. I'm not sure where you get very slim chance from - its a prelim and who knows what will happen. We beat them earlier in the season, so we know we can do it, as tough as it will be. I am as pessimistic as the next guy, but why not go in to the game hoping we win instead of your very bleak outlook? And nice to win? It would be bloody awesome to win, nice is for the bottom 8 teams hoping they get to make the 8. Go the mighty Cats - lets show everyone what we're made of!

Very positive post.
Wish I could agree.
Watching the Tigers tonight, that probably should have been the GF, but I really wonder if they are beatable "when it counts".
A Port win tonight would have got the Prelim final weekend off to a great start; now, we stress all the more.
Might all be over for us this time tomorrow night, so I will try and take on your philosophy and see what we can deliver.

ha; that was a positive post? :joycat:

I thought I was being fatalistic! I'm gonna have to step things up a notch around here!

To be the best we have to beat the best; I'd have much preferred to have faced Port at the Gabba too (yes yes - if we get past the PF - which I completely, absolutely acknowledge is a long shot at best) than Richmond, who have had our measure (and the rest of the comp too).

Then again I thought Collingwood were a current bogey team for us and we pantsed them/they didn't show up.

Whatever happens; this pointy end of the season has ever been fraught for Geelong supporters; perhaps supporters in the 1950s didn't suffer the angst the battle-scarred veterans of modern supporters, but in my lifetime Finals confidence has been confined to a mere 5-6 year stretch; recent years have severely eroded those all-too-short-lived salad days ..

Tomorrow night is gonna be huge.

Gee whizz Richmond will be hard to beat next week with Stevic in that sort of form. I was doing shots for every time Pickett dropped the ball in the tackle and didn't get pinged for it, and I was half cut by 3 quarter time.

It makes this tweet even more sickening doesn't it

We owe this mob for '67.

cats_09 care to speculate as to which Geelong BF board members might have been privvy to the miscarriage of justice that day?
I can think of maybe 3 candidates.

Point being, all jokes aside, many ol' timers would argue that we were absolutely robbed (right in front of moi!) in the '67 due to a controversial umpiring decision that no less of a great than Polly Farmer never forgave.
Hardwick evidently buttering up for more of the same should we be good enough to topple the Lions tomorrow.

Dusty Martin was again near BOG. FREAK FINALS PLAYER. Have not seen better in over 50 years.

Big call, but hard to disagree - could maybe argue that others have been equally as effective, but as you said, hard to say any have been better.

I've 'only' been properly following the game since maybe '84-'85ish, and I can't really say any other player I've seen can be clearly ranked above him.

Doesn't always dominate, but he is so good that he tends to draw multiple opponents to him, still wins possession, and then find a subsequently free teammate.

I don't like the Tigers but I can't help but admire what Martin has done; he had a few knocks on him right from the start but has established himself as a legend of the game.

Must admit, it was pretty great to see how badly Motlop crumbled, after his little cameo against us in Week 1. Will always be one of those guys with all the raw talent in the world, but none of the sustained effort and care that is required - very much like his former teammate Wingard. So glad he's not doing that to us anymore

How good is Luke Hodge in the special comments - he is brilliant - adds to the coverage

When Martin took that mark - when the Port bloke pannicked a bit - he explained exactly what he should have done

And if there was a ball up within the vicinity of the goals - he would tell you what the respective defences had to do - and watch out for - adds to the excitement

Outstanding - he is top class -i hope he stays in the media ( and doesnt go coaching ) because he is that good at it

I took no pleasure in seeing Motlop under-perform, but he had plenty of amigos in that regard; Richmond killed Port on their own deck.
Play it Sam highlighted Powell Pepper; I thought he'd been good against the Cats last week but he was fumbly and ineffectual tonight.

Gryan Miers is our current Steven Motlop.

At least Miers has a huge workrate and is always in the top 5 for k's on field (always gives maximum effort but overdoes it sometimes with the simple things) - definitely couldn't say the same for Mots

Not sure on the figures myself.

Motlop has pretty pronounced weaknesses but he is also capable of generating goals whether off his own boot or through a deft assist - he's generally good in transition too in my admittedly vague observation; he can be creative when he is ''on'' no doubt.

Miers probably the better endurance athlete, but I've seen Motlop kick a set shot banana after the siren clean through the goals; bloke has skill.

Miers has a huge opportunity to build a finals reputation tomorrow night.

From half time it felt just like the Geelong vs Richmond finals game last year. Just ineffectual bombing into our 50. Poor Port. They just weren’t allowed to play their game. I can sympathise.

You just have to keep your head and lower the eyes. Long kicks forward are fine if it's quick but can't be after a couple of ball ups or kick over the mark. It's just starting a game of ping pong only they will eventually win.
