Richmond gets Geelong's future first round pick and GWS' future third round pick, GWS receives Brett Deledio.

So we essentially paid for Deledio anyway FFS!!!

We couldn't fit him into the salary cap. Can't you see that?

If Motlop had kept his trade value the Lids deal might have got done.

We dodged the real bullet here. Motlop is a far better player than Caddy and seemed to be worth no more than on the open market. We would've missed him a lot more.

Duncan and Guthrie were ahead of Caddy for speed and ball use respectively (and generally, form). I had Menegola ahead of Caddy for the primary inside midfielder, with Caddy fighting with SS for the one spot.

Bonus - we hopefully add someone a bit more nimble in the forward line, since it appears as though that's where they were grooming him (his move to Richmond suggests he thought the same).

The talking point is we got crap value when we had all the bargaining power. But let's not pretend that Touhy in, Caddy out makes us a worse team if we look at trades alone. The pick swapping and whatnot we'll have no idea about until much later on.

So we have 2 2nd rounds in 2017

Adelaide - no future picks
BL Brisbane Lions - 2017 round one selection from Port Adelaide as part of the Pearce Hanley trade, 2017 round three selection from Collingwood as part of Jack Frost trade
CARL Carlton - 2017 round one selection from Geelong as part of Zach Tuohy trade
COLL Collingwood - 2017 round three and four selections from Brisbane Lions as part of Jack Frost trade
ESS Essendon - no future picks
FRE Fremantle - no future picks
GEEL Geelong - 2017 round two selection from Carlton as part of Zach Tuohy trade
GCFC Gold Coast - 2017 round two selection from Richmond as part of Dion Prestia trade
GWS Greater Western Sydney - 2017 round two selection from St Kilda for Jack Steele, 2017 round two selection from Collingwood for Will Hoskin-Elliott
HAW Hawthorn - no future picks
MELB Melbourne - no future picks
NMFC North Melbourne - 2017 round three and four selections from Western Bulldogs as part of Nathan Hrovat trade
PORT Port Adelaide - no future picks
RICH Richmond - no future picks
SYD Sydney Swans - no future picks
STK St Kilda - 2017 round one selection from Hawthorn in a pick exchange; 2017 round four selection from Western Bulldogs as part of Koby Stevens trade
WCE West Coast - no future picks
WB Western Bulldogs - 2017 round three and four selections from North Melbourne as part of Nathan Hrovat trade; 2017 round five selection from St Kilda as part of Koby Stevens trade

-Touhy in is right on the money for what we needed. I praise that deal.
-Caddy out whilst not ideal is managable. Reminds me a little when we traded Moloney, good player but plenty of others to run through midfield. I think Menegola & Lang will be quite capable to push on.
-kersten always gonna go. Black in to replace him, fine, whatever.
Vardy, i had high hopes but he never consistantly played.
- Smedts. Dont care really.
- We keep Motlop. He comes into 2017 with tomohawks boot up his bum

IIRC We got a first rounder for Moloney. Which we used as part of the Ottens deal.

At the start of this week, the overwhelming opinion on this board was that he was a loyal Geelong player who loved Geelong. Had bought a house recently and everything. Plenty were openly taunting Richmond supporters about how superior he was, how he'd never been dropped etc.

I'm predicting that tone to shift slightly now.

Of course!!! Lovers spurned and scorned!!!

All the last day deals in one place to wrap your head around:

So as the list stands now I think we have 4 spots available (assuming Ruggles is upgraded) + 5 rookie spots
If all the talk on Trade radio is to be believed about the draft, the talent runs pretty deep this year so there's a chance Wells may pick a couple of good players. That's if you believe the hype.

We traded vardy for 19 points when we had a pick 2 picks later. I know he is ooc but we should have sent him to the draft for that.

Send him to the draft for the sake of 19 points? Where we would have got the equivalent of zero points? Why? Surely 19 points and goodwill is better than the short term satisfaction of giving the finger to both club and player?

We have picks 24, 38 & 42. Should get some quality players there in an even and deep draft pool.

Caddy out and Touhy in is a win for team balance.

Black in for Kersten is even.

Lost Vardy and Smedts, who cares.

2017 1st rounder for 2017 blues 2nd rounder might only be a handful of spots.

Cockatoo and Lang and Thurlow and Gregson to play more games next year and Lonergan and Mackie less.

Would have loved Deledio but am satisfied with how this trade period has turned out.
