Player Watch Pick #14 (2019) - Miles Bergman

Bergman continued his hot form and career-best season against North Melbourne on Saturday, finishing with 21 disposals, 11 intercepts, 10 marks, eight score involvements and 588m gained. “He’s become a weapon. In the space of eight games, he’s really weaponised his kicking,” Brownlow Medallist Gerard Healy told Fox Footy. “He’s almost at the level now that he needs to be stopped and tagged.”

The Sandringham Dragons product recently said he felt more comfortable at Alberton after initially struggling with homesickness. But still unsigned beyond this year and keen to address his contract later in the year, Bergman, 21, now looms as one of the most in-demand players come the end of the season.
And Victorian clubs are reportedly circling. Whether the Bombers are part of that circle already - or will join it soon - remains to be seen.

I’m a fully grown adult male and I will cry real tears if this guy decides to request a trade. Getting more concerned by the day. Just an absolute Lamborghini of a player. You don’t let them go. Even if we got a top 10 pick id say we lose out.
I'm not concerned yet, why would he sign now? With the form he's in every game is adding to his asking price

Throw an open cheque at him. Offer him something he cannot refuse. We have the salary cap space.

I love him as much as the next bloke but that’s not how you run a football club.

Just because the crows did it with rankine doesn’t mean it doesn’t have unintended consequences in the free agency era

He's not an RFA. It's a trade or he goes to the PSD. Unfortunately when they're looking to return to Victoria that kind of threat holds little weight, although the spectre of going to North or Hawthorn right now I imagine would be fairly unappealing.

For all of the discussion around Victorians, Adelaide have extracted good value out of their young players who left. Lever got 2xfirsts with a 2nd and 3rd going the other way. Pick 12 for Charlie Cameron. 13+access to Mcadam for Mcgovern. Gunston is the only one they got mugged on. If Bergman wants to go somewhere that isn't 17-18th, the luring club won't want to lose him and won't want to be seen to low ball and have their target end up somewhere else. 1st (a good one) will be the value. Whether that is made up with a late first and points or what, but we're not getting bent over.

Hopeffully they both sign as I'd hate to see us go all Nick Stevens on him or Mitch but if we can't get a fair trade, I'd be offering minimum sign for 2 and gentlemen's agreement you get your preference in 2025, otherwise PSD.

Pretty sure you lose draft picks for that.
Really? Wouldn't it come down to how you word a verbal agreement?

If we can't convince them to sign and we're getting offer squat as a trade surely the club has a right to either walk away from the trade offer or try and convince the player that going to the PSD is a backward step 🤷‍♂️

Pretty sure that is exactly what Adelaide did with Tippett.
