It is about what is in the rucks control.

The plan could be for him to hit it to the left and Pendles is supposed to roll that way to win the ball.

Grundy is ‘successful’, he wins the HO and it is hit to the left....but Pendles is blocked and the result is Libba gets hands to it first.

Grundy did his job, but the Bulldogs midfield was able to do their bit even better.
A midfield can thrive with a ‘weak’ ruck, just as the Bulldogs are doing to date in 2019.

But if trying to isolate the ‘effectiveness’ of a ruck...the ‘effectiveness’ is producing a desired result...which is a HO to advantage. Anything else isn’t the desired result.

Grundy dominated the HOs, and went at his normal HO to advantage rate. He had a great game.

Makes sense. Under the same rationale, would you favour gross effective kick stats over effective kick % stats. Personally I think both are a crock of shit.

Unlike HOs, a kick classed as ‘effective’ isn’t based on your team mate actually winning the ball.

An ‘effective disposal’ doesn’t convey anything in relation to whether it actually put the opposition under any additional pressure...so ultimately it depends on what you are trying to convey.

If you are wanting to understand which players are good at ensuring the team retains possession of the football after they have had the ball, disposal effective % would work.

I thought that was only the case for long kicks, but short kicks had to be collected by your teammate.

It is, and they do. If you dispose of the ball to a contest it’s only classed as an effective disposal if your team mate retains possession or the ball travels 40+ meters.

So if you do a 35 metre pass inside 50 to your teammates advantage, it's not registered as an effective kick if your teammate doesn't collect it (Is it registered as an ineffective kick?). It helps explain why so many mids who kick it really well dont have as high kicking efficiency stats as ordinary kicking defenders.

Lol Bevo is taking the piss giving Bonts more votes than Grundy....
Careful Bevo might have given votes to Bobservation Murphy.

Yeah just long kicks.

When the stat was defined, mid 90s, it better reflected the game.

But now all it is really highlighting is which players can retain the ball...is that really important??

For mine players with high DE is an indication of a player who is risk adverse - the players who just chip it around and go the safe conservative option...

It isn’t measuring which players are actually putting the opposition under pressure with their disposal.

Anyway, stats are great...as long as you actually understand their definition, and how to interpret them...the ‘problem’ is plenty in the media don’t, and this dribbles down to supporters.

Anyway, way off topic now.

In R4 plenty of Pies individuals were meh, but Grundy helped lead us to a win in the middle which got us over the line against a team we have battled against recently...take it and move on to the Lions.

Anyone care to speculate what urgent message Elliott had to say to Cox when he grabbed him so immediately here, right before he kicked his goal in the 4th quarter,
