It is about what is in the rucks control.
The plan could be for him to hit it to the left and Pendles is supposed to roll that way to win the ball.
Grundy is ‘successful’, he wins the HO and it is hit to the left....but Pendles is blocked and the result is Libba gets hands to it first.
Grundy did his job, but the Bulldogs midfield was able to do their bit even better.
A midfield can thrive with a ‘weak’ ruck, just as the Bulldogs are doing to date in 2019.
But if trying to isolate the ‘effectiveness’ of a ruck...the ‘effectiveness’ is producing a desired result...which is a HO to advantage. Anything else isn’t the desired result.
Grundy dominated the HOs, and went at his normal HO to advantage rate. He had a great game.
Makes sense. Under the same rationale, would you favour gross effective kick stats over effective kick % stats. Personally I think both are a crock of shit.
