Not to mention Robbie getting KO'd from an extremely rough tackle early on against Freo. Then the mainly bs 8-9 50's paid against us when playing the Hawks. The bs 50 against Motlop vs Collingwood which seemed to take all the wind out of our sails.

Just a year to forget.
5 out of Hawthorns 9 goals were off the back off free kicks and we lost by 3 points, freaking umpire Nicholls is the biggest cheat

My “West Coast game” story is quite funny. Finished work late and had to high tail to the ground during the 3rd qtr. checked my phone and Ryder had just kicked a goal to put us 4 or 5 goals up. “Oh good, gonna take something ridiculous for us to not win this one then” Walked in the ground and the margin is 2 goals and Dixon and Houston are both down. “Oh deary me”

We then proceeded to watch a quarter and a bit of some of the most one sided umpiring you will see. It was Peak Subi levels. I wasn’t even upset when McGovern took the mark, sometimes things are just meant to be.

I will quote a bit of Buckenara's article seeing I quoted too much before and had it deleted.

PORT ADELAIDE’S LIST NEEDS
The Power has a fairly balanced list but the glaring hole was in the ruck and finding back-up for Ryder, which was solved by the acquisition of Lycett. The departures of Wingard and Polec exacerbates the Power’s need for speed through the middle, so that should also be a priority either through the draft.

Boak, Sam Powell-Pepper, Ryder, Motlop, Ebert, Hamish Hartlett, the Grays, Rockliff, Wines, Clurey, Dixon, Watts, Bonner, Howard, Houston, Westhoff, Byrne-Jones and Jonas is a good start at generating the 25-30 players capable at AFL level you need to be a contender, the challenge is to develop that hard edge you need to match it with the top sides. That’s what this list really needs.
.....
CRYSTAL BALL
The Power have enough talent to play finals next year but this group must to find a harder edge. That won’t sit well with Port Adelaide people but the reality is without developing that next level of commitment and sacrifice, the trend of beating bottom sides but struggling against top teams will continue. Ultimately that’s the difference between being a contender and either missing finals or being knocked out in the first week................................. The team is in limbo — can it, or does it want to, take the next step?

You didn’t bold the right bit:

“...the reality is without developing that next level of commitment and sacrifice, the trend of beating bottom sides but struggling against top sides will continue.”

Been a problem for quite awhile.

At least we’ve ditched two of the biggest culprits for that.

And by doing that have drawn a line in the sand... For players, coaches, and off-field staff that coasting by is just not good enough.

Unlike many, I am quite positive about 2019.

We need leadership that is desperate to win. Boak is too nice. Problem is I can’t find a leader in our group that has that extra level of desire to win. Dixon?

Ollie isn't a bad set shot drop punt. His field kicking however..

We had it after Jmac's death. There was a steel about the side ... you could see it, and feel it. This has slowly waned, as players have stopped playing for each other, the team, and for a "cause," concerned only with their own game!

A winning team has the combination of all four ... Pride in your own game and playing to get the best out of yourself. Playing for you team mates, helping them be the best they can. Playing for the team, being willing to make sacrifices and play in unpreferred positions. Playing for a "cause," to win premierships for your club and devoted members.

Get these right, and this current team can easily compete in Finals!

Jonas and Wines. One cap, one vice.
Probs Ollie as cap, with Jonas to stand next to him as great backup.
Charlie would probably make a good vice, too.

Chances are it'll still be Boak, which is ok, but probably the right time for change now.

My opinion, but no way in the world will Boak be captain next year! Changes have to be made if we are serious, and as much as he has been a legend for us, Boak will surely be out of the captain, vice captain roles.

The new broom will continue its work.

We still have a crap load of players that coast, are not good enough or embarrass the club off the field.

Wingard and Polec (2 of our top 5 players) have been made scapegoats and the people that run the list couldn’t be anymore hypocritical.

I fully agree. If this doesn’t play off on field, and that means at minimum equally 2014. Not just scraping into the finals like 2017, not jus lt managing to win an EF final to go out in the semi. But make and be highly competitive in a prelim, or the people who have made these decisions should be out of a job.

Polec was the sort of character that told you what you wanted to hear but his actions on the field proved he was only ever in it for himself.

He racked up donuts in the B&F vs Carlton, Fremantle and Collingwood - three games where we needed to win or win by a healthy percentage and he was off doing his own thing.

I’ll say it again - we were never winning a flag with him.
Hehe.

Polec was equal 9th best Vs Carlton and 1 point off being top 8.

Stats gotta love em. :D

The idea of “players coasting” is a bit of a furphy. It’s always going to be much more of a reflection on the organization than the individuals themselves. In a good organization, no one is allowed to coast. It really is that simple.

Exactly, the people allowing the coasting should be sacked long before the players who are coasting.

Yeah because good organizations say pull your socks up or move on, even if they are fan favourites.

What disciplinary action did Chad receive during the year? Refresh my memory. As far as we KNOW...none.

He had his PS4 power cable taken away, and he just flogged one from the social media interns PC at Alberton.

He didn’t get a single vote in the B&F against Carlton.

That means Hinkley, Nicks, Lade, Voss and Bassett thought he was ratshit in that game.

There’s stats...and then there’s stats.
