As a kid in the 70s, I remember Essendon as being one of the shittier teams in the VFL.

Sheedy came along and lifted them up for a couple of decades but it seems like normal service was resumed afer he left.

It's similar to what happened with Jack Oatey at Sturt.

Ugh. I don't like this one.
Neither. At some point, you have to be able to protect yourself from a player that isn't watching where they are going. Kingy was going on about Fyfe's rights in that scenario, but Reid was stationary. There was no bump, just bracing. Reid shouldn't have to jump out of his way or simply accept the contact.

Remember that spud who knocked himself out on Hammer's hips when trying to tackle him a few years ago? How would that fare these days?

B2B rising star nominations for the Swans. With the other stiff so far.

Where's all the people laughing at me now?

That's some serious quality. Even if they are asterix picks.

If you haven't watched them... Do yourself a favour. Sydney are incredibly good to watch, for the first time ever.

Reid got a push from one of Fyfe's team mates that probably meant he wasn't able to avoid the collision, even if he wanted to, so all he had time to do was brace. If GCS appeal, that would probably be the ground they should use.

They really are the worst. And they know fu** all about football.
They sound like the WA Crows to me. When Adelaide and West Coast play each other, I find it tough to barrack either way.

Don Pyke will be a head coach somewhere in 2022.

That’s stock standard for your average West coast supporter.
As I have said before living in Perth at least you can have a bit of a joke and laugh with the Dockers supporters.
Eagles supporters you just want to punch in the face and yes they are worse than the Crows mood.
So they're basically what Crows fans would be like if they were a successful club?

Man when you look back at Essendon they would've been better off keeping Sheedy on as coach until he needed a zimmer frame.

Struggling to dig up a shred of sympathy for them. After the drug scandal, key figureheads hung around who had buried their heads in the sand and insisted they did nothing wrong. They got a slap on the wrist from the AFL and it took a disgustingly large amount of time to actually give a remotely reasonable infringement for systematic drug use - and it literally only occurred because WADA came in and dropped the hammer down.

Then they acted like they were victims with the whole 'comeback story' bullshit. At the end of the day, I don't expect a club to sit there and beg for forgiveness, but it felt like the AFL were encouraging it all.

This just feels like their shit house club culture that led them to doping has affected them in other ways. I don't hate Essendon, I just don't like them either.

Seriously can’t stop laughing when someone says Rutten and AFL coach in the same sentence.

No disrespect to Justin Leppitsch, but isn’t he basically Leppitsch 2.0? Successful defender who did an apprenticeship at Richmond and...

The job at Essendon is a very big one. It'll eat even the best coaches alive. It's a death sentence. If Rutten was serious, he should actually look to openly move on a bunch of them and just reset the whole thing.

Having said that, he only has so much influence to do that. The whole football department is a ****ing mess. You'd want to get rid of Dodoro, the recruiters and whoever is involved in player welfare/character development.

Deep seated issues down there, I guess alot like Carlton. They keep churning coaches without any accountability at upper echelons and within the football department. Carlton at least moved on SOS at last.

Not just Carlton and Essendon but all Big 4 Victorian clubs and Melbourne as well. They have big supporter bases but more importantly they all have hugely powerful people behind the scenes and the politics in those clubs is unbelievable. A large part of why all these clubs have been utter shitshows at various stages is due in large part to the infighting at board/coterie level and the shit streaming downhill. Melbourne, Essendon, Carlton and Collingwood are all big recent examples of this in their own way.

The Eagles and the Clowns becoming member owned clubs wouldn't compare to what goes on in those inner sanctums, nothing in Australian sport does.

“The Geelong Football Club was actually telephoned (on Sunday) and the question was asked … (whether) Chris Scott tried to fight Chris Fagan, or offered to fight him, outside the ground – which is utterly ridiculous,” Robinson said.

I reckon Chris Scott could Bash Chris Fagan easy. Tom Jonas would probably bash both. Whadd'ya reckon boiz

Tom Jonas only bashes new players at pordadelay, after they take more intercept marks than him (and definitely not for other reasons). Martin Leslie on the other hand...

I reckon last years times were great, I also reckon people enjoyed it, but TRADITION.
16mins is too short. It felt like I was a crows supporter leaving at 3 quarter time or something.

I’m suddenly all-in on a Royal Rumble-style death match between all 18 senior coaches.

Bucks and Dimma on the first line of betting, surely — although Clarko will breathe his last with a half-chewed testicle in his mouth.

Stewie Dew could actually smother a couple of campaigners to death!
