The key thing here is most of our list are still under 50 games... so we still get some inconsistency.

Clarke was in that Ruck coach role since 2008, a year after he retired from playing. Will be interesting how Baulderstone goes as the new guy on campus given the guy he’s replacing held the role for 16 seasons.

Whatever people thought of Clarke’s performance over that time whether good or mediocre, holding the same role even something as specialist as it is for 16 seasons at a club is probably too long a stint in hindsight & you can certainly become stale and overly repetitive, will be interesting if anything changes in terms of setups, positioning or hitting zone's or if it will be more of the same from Clarke’s old playbook.

Given his versatility to play forward/back/chop out ruck could be handy off the bench...pretty quick for a tall as well.
He excites me for some reason. Wonder if he can force a regular 22 spot.

Where does Burgess play? How does he get a game if TT, Tex and Fog play?
Surely he's not going to keep one of those guys out of the team?

Can't see him ahead of Butts, Keane, Worrell either.

Good to hear he's smashing it though, would be amazing if he turns into a player.

Maybe we leave ROB out!

Can you just imagine the Nicks hate if Burgess forced himself into the team at the expense of one of Tex, Fog or TT. 🤔

That said, in the snippets I've seen of him, he looks a good mover for a big guy. Maybe we sacrifice the ruck slightly and use TT and Burgess as 2 mobile rucks who would be ideal to rest forward.

This is pure speculation but it's caught my imagination for a while now. Although I originally started this thinking to get Gollant into the team, using Burgess works even better as it won't require TT to ruck all day.

Thoughts???

I just don't see it. ROB is adequate.
Thilthorpe emerging as a contested marking beast CHF is vital for our improvement not just in 2024, but for the rest of the decade.

He'd definitely be top of the list in replacements but probably won't be best 22 at the start of the year. Hell of an upgrade on Himmelberg. Him apparently being quite fast is interesting because he definitely doesn't give off that impression.

He would be a very handy back up if one of those mentioned was injured.

You would have to think that is exactly how the club views him.

But who knows - maybe the club thinks that Lightning can strike twice and a 28 year old new recruit that has won the Jim 'Frosty' Miller Medal can be the leading goal kicker in a premiership team within 2 years.

Excuse me whilst I change my username to AFC979825.

Would we go that far backwards if Strachan had to play instead of ROB? I don't think we would be impacted that much.
Strachan is a far worse ruck than ROB, but not the worst 2nd ruck rolling around.

So it probably just depends on how little impact you think rucks have to winning games (Stachan has been involved in 1 AFL win from 5 games, winning against North in 2021. ROB 39 wins from 100 games)

Given our last 6 years as a side those numbers are expected

Strachan's 5 games came in 2020/2021/2022 when our team had a winning record of 18 and 43.

I hardly think that if we had ROB we would have beaten the Kangaroos (70 point loss), Melbourne (40 point loss), Brisbane (36 point loss), Saints (21 point loss).

In Strachans second game in 2022 he equalled the highest disposal count ROB got all last year.
Imagine he got a few games in a row.
