Game Day Pre-Season - West Coast vs Adelaide (Fri)

It's sad to read the Pear board. All those knowledgeable footy experts that thought a couple years ago they'd win 3 out of 5 reduced to a depressed mob without hope.
We should all tell them how sorry we are for them.

Good ratio of goals to points again.
Crossed 100 point barrier.

On gameplan, not really too much of note. Looked slightly more attacking than last season around ball ups and with mid positioning. Did lots of switching but they were IMO barely passable in their quality. Looked to be doing a lot of long kicking all thru the game but especially first half. I think we were doing too much first half, in the second half the balance was better. Short kicking game was good, continuing on with that theme of quick continual movement. Seemed like a lot of variation at the bounces, I like that. Loved the pressure we brought. Kept it on the whole game. Game was on our terms or at worst break even for the whole match.

Effing loved that our forwards (special credit to Fog and McAdam) are finally jumping into and hurting the defenders that stand in the holes. I've only been saying this forever. Hurt the f'*(ers. Even if you cant get the mark, and even if you give away the free. Make em not want to stand there.

Rachele started to get going this game. Reckon he will bring another level again round 1.
Smith got going too, shaky there for a while but grew into it.
Think the ROB up forward experiment failed, but worth testing things like that.
Not as dissatisfied with Berg as with a lot on here. A lot of the ball coming into him was poor. In fact that was one notable thing this week versus last week that the mid forward connection was nowhere near as good. Better than last year but much less than last week.
Generated a lot of f50 entries.
Keays got going. Sloane Ok. Crouch ok when on. Brown doing well. Didn't see Max much.
Hingey was great. Dawson supreme.
Doedee's kicking can sometimes let him down. Does some howlers.
Key defenders were good enough.
Parnell ok but inconspicuous.
Shoenberg played a strange role tonight, couldn't quite pick up whether he was doing a tag or what but seemed to be concentrating on shutting down rather than picking up disposal himself.
Berry very good.
Soligo very good.
Rankine ok.
Laird and Tex were Laird and Tex.

Fitness seemed good.

Ginbey did well for WC.
WC seemed quite competent, when we gave them a chance, makes me even happier with our performance.

Max completely blanketed the dangerous Flyin’ Ryan who was dominant against Port

That’s typical Max , he’s a guy you won’t notice much … but in a good way

McAdams was special too
That first one from Rach in the D50 when he effectively parted the seas was the best..

looked very balanced and more settled tonight than he has done in recent times..

moves very much like that young Daicos lad..

Been a hot minute since I’ve been around here. Good to see Ben is over the groin issues and playing his best footy. Those years in the midfield helped give him the confidence he could play at the highest level and now should settle into the role he was meant to play as an AFL footballer. Hard working HF that can hit the scoreboard. You all should be excited, that midfield looks good the way it’s set up now. Unleash Harry !

skills have just improved all round albeit playing witches hats at times

for one i dont think we kicked out on the full once which was regular occurrence last three years

second our forward handball in traffic was a feature

closing speed across the ground definitely improved

Good to see our midfielders getting amongst the goals

Match Report: Crows down Eagles in final pre-season outing

A comfortable win out West

Adelaide completed a perfect pair of pre-season hit-outs in WA with a 59-point win against West Coast on Friday night, raising hopes the highly organised unit is ready to make a leap in 2023.
The Crows controlled the game for long periods with a well-drilled defensive style and relentless pressure around the ball.
Their ball movement and ability to lock the ball in the front half was also superior, winning the inside 50s 65-37 as forwards Darcy Fogarty and Ben Keays capitalised with four goals each.
Midfield duo Rory Laird (32 and nine clearances) and Sam Berry (19 and six inside 50s) were impressive for the second straight week, grinding their opponents into the ground through hard work and each pushing forward to kick two goals.
Captain Jordan Dawson (26 and six rebounds) was also piercing with his ball use and a key reason the Crows were able to create quality scoring opportunities, with Mitch Hinge (23 and four inside 50s) an improved player on the wing.
Adelaide will face GWS in Round One in Sydney.
WEST COAST 1.1 3.4 6.5 7.10 (52)
ADELAIDE 6.1 8.3 12.6 17.9 (111)
GOALS
West Coast: Cripps 2, Allen, Petruccelle, Rotham, Ryan, Yeo
Adelaide: Fogarty 4, Keays 4, Walker 3, Laird 2, Berry 2, Pedlar, Rankine
BEST
West Coast: McGovern, Ginbey, Hurn, Cripps, Sheed
Adelaide: Laird, Fogarty, Dawson, Hinge, Keays, Berry, Smith

Keays was ridiculously fit last year, so I doubt it.

There is probably a part of it where he was trying to do too much with the ball. He may have worked on his technique as well.

Maybe he has but increased fitness would explain his kicking better to me.

Nah, he has always been one of our fittest. But this way he’s not running over three quarters of the ground before he gets a kick in.

I don't buy it Jen, others can play midfield and not kick grubbers into the forward line like Benny did last year and i mean thousands of midfielders I have watched in my time have, they also run the same distance. Increased fitness in a competitive sport is such a huge advantage when it comes to performing skills. I hope this is the case too because it augers bloody well for us if young Benjamin can put balls into the 50, off balanced, under pressure like he did to Tex in the last quarter.

I honestly think we are seeing some dividends from Burgo at present now he has had a second PS with the boys
