So the banking Royal Commission, red herring?

I’m “investing” in someone else owning a house I’m renting. You don’t rent, because renting sucks.

I rented for 10 years. If it sucker, why did I do it for so long?

As for the RC, banks were guilty of making loans too easy to get not the other way around

Because, going by the last election, about 93-94% of voters go above the line and don't do their own preferences. And a good portion of the ones who do probably look at party names like Transport Matters, Health Australia and Sustainable Australia and figure that they support their policies, when that might not be the case.

This year I've been told 10% voted below the line

Have a friend that is working in Real Estate and told me that in the past month, housing loans from Banks have tightened up enormously even to the point of doing their own valuations on properties before granting loans. Sales have dropped by about 10%.

I can believe that, we had properties go up for sale near us that just aren't moving where as a couple of months ago things were selling within a week,

Those that have been sold (ones near or above the $1M) are selling $50-$100K less as well.

how the **** did that dickhead Hinch manage to win 4 seats.

TISM - The Penis Is Mightier Than The Sword

There's violence on the television
And letter bombs in the mail
But things can't be all that bad
'Cause Derryn Hinch went to jail

Famine eats up children
The peace talks, they always fail
But things can't be all that bad
'Cause Derryn Hinch went to jail

You might have double malaria
The doctors look at you, they go pale
But things, they can't be all that bad
When Derryn Hinch goes to jail

Christ himself on the cross
Told the guy who banged in the nail
"Mate, things, they can't be all that bad
When Derryn Hinch goes to jail"

Don't you know?
I can take Ronald Reagen
I can take Menachem Begin
I can take tetraplegia
I can take total amnesia
I can take black spiky hair
I can take germ warfare
I can take 'Chasers' and 'Inflation'
I can take hyperventilation
I can take total bowel disfunction
I can take nuclear destruction
I can even take Mike Willesee, well, at a pinch
But one thing I cannot take is Derryn ****ing Hinch

Gee is that true, surely they aren't going to go back making the same mistakes?

Correct. Well said. Rowan Dean um rac.... is a classic example of this, always on the race bait angle, if nothing happening on that, climate change is next. Oh Paris. Watch some sky, cause Murdoch has me brainwashed. But this fuzzy head dude is a piece of work.

The culture war is over, no one gives a shit about whether kids are taught about Simpson and his Donkey, they all know a trans kid who is bullied and doing it tough, have a gay family member and people hate hypocritical God botherers, and think race baiting is gutless bullshit. Kennett was a prick but he refuses to give in to racism - he denounced Pauline Hanson before Beazer did. The only people who think there are votes in that crap are Lyle Shelton and Murdoch editors. Also what sort of a vain idiot is Michael Kroger? he should jump on the sword

I was told I could go below the line and number just 5 boxes... under Labor there were 5 names, so I just did them 1 - 5.

How were my preferences counted?

Labor's latest video featuring Kroger is brilliant. Until the Libs realise people actually want essential services, they'll be stuck in no man's land.

I'm no expert, but my guess is that would be no different to just voting '1' for the ALP ticket above the line, so if that was someone's intention, they may as well just do the easy option.

Where it would come to play is when people direct preferences to other parties who have policies that they support, rather than just automatically preferencing to whichever micro party the ALP stitched up a deal with.

As for the RC, banks were guilty of making loans too easy to get not the other way around

And what happened to property prices because of this...

You could still be renting now if you want to (why did you save up to get out) AND you had a choice to leave the rental market when you wished

People who are priced out of the market (the slaves) do not get the luxury you had, median income Australians can save up until the cows come home, but with an annual income of ~$70K subtract tax - subtract rent - subtract fuel - subtract bills and getting to the $160,000 just for the 20% deposit never mind spending the following 30 years paying off the mortgage - this isn't even feasible to do in a working lifetime. Meanwhile this generation of slaves are left to pay off other people's investment houses on their behalf.

The Abbott Gubmint was not as hesitant as you are, to have stated why this occurred, it is not like it is a secret, so I don't know who you're trying to fool here, blaming immigrants and everyone else under the sun
Abbott - "When I retire I want to my modest dwelling to be worth many many many munny"
They even had an ad on the TV with a struggling tradie just trying to get ahead with an investment property
They even had Hockey come on TV and tell the scum generation that if they want a house they should just get a better job

Further counting for the lower house today.
  • Labor is back in front by 0.2% in Bayswater. I think Labor will hold one on the strength of provisional votes .
  • Liberals margin in Hawthorn down from 1% to 0.4%. This one looks like being very close, but I think the Liberals will fall over the line.
  • Greens now in front by 0.3% in Brunswick. Greens very strong chance it win it from here.
  • Liberals now 0.3% in front in Ripon. This one looks like being very close, but I think the Liberals will fall over the line again.
  • Labors margin in Nepean down from 1% to 0.5. I think Labor will hold on.
  • The margin between Labor and Green for second place is 1.2%. It is possible that the Greens can overtake Labor on the make of the minor preferences. Liberals can't win.
  • VEC hasn't completed the revised 2PP count for Labor-Independent in Morwell. Impossible to tell.

LOL @ the Libs headhunting Family First nutters while Labour offer a job to Fiona Patten :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:.

Can't wait until Victoria legalises recreational weed and funds literally every single one of Danny boy's awesome infrastructure projects.

Could only handle him for about 5 minutes but after a grudging congrats to Andrews he quickly turned his attention to the upper house where he tipped “ legalisation of marijuana, decrease in speeding fines and increase in speed limits”. In other words he was completely spun out by it all and didn’t know what to say so went with complete nonsense.
Yeah, legalisation at a retail level requires federal consent, so i'm not sure what he is on about. Essentially we could achieve quasi legalisation, for personal ownership and use, but that's about it.

If the Labor government are so progressive, and progressive is correlated with being humane, how come they are inhumane when it comes to pricing people out of the housing market, and forcing them into renting to pay off another person’s house a.k.a. slavery? That’s low.

If they were humane they’d make people who have rented for X amount of years eligible for euthanasia. Or just make housing affordable.
It's hard to just make housing affordable, given there are national and global pressures.

Rent control, a real vacancy tax, upzoning, greater tenancy rights and more public housing should be on the agenda, if they aspire to actual progressive cred. But again, the wider levers of the housing market would require federal intervention.
