It's funny when you look at these stats and you feel like you've been watching a different game. I didn't think the disposals difference would be so great. Nor did I realise our kick to handball ratio was more than 2 to 1. That is extreme, not that I really mind. Hit outs similarly, I didn't realise we had won them by so much. And I don't think they really had a huge impact on the game.
Stefan Martin seemed pretty much ineffectual to me.

Would have liked to see Payne more time on ground. Fort was ok but J Berry so frustrating to watch. Good workout.

Did the commentary blow it up to be some exciting thriller?
I was talking to a few people afterwards and at no stage did we feel under threat, sure they were close on the scoreboard but we seemed to have it under control

Team was pretty knackered in that last quarter, it was pretty steamy and being down on rotations didn't help. Poor Robbo was running on fumes.

Don't know how well it came across on the broadcast but I thought Daniher and Mcstay did some good work bringing the ball to ground on the long kicks down the ground. Poor Mcstay had to do a ton of this in the last when everyone had stopped running.

Yeah the Dogs had like 90% territory in the last 5 minutes so it felt very close to me. And then obviously they drew within a straight kick with all those behinds in the last couple of minutes. They just couldn't get that last goal, and I think for that a lot of credit has to go to our defence and how well organised we remained. In that sense it was shades of 2020, when we won a lot of games like that.

That said, it would have been nice to add a certified "sealer" goal to satisfy the Leigh Matthews rule.

McStay was great all night. He really is like a rudder for us forward of centre. His kicking for goal let him down - if he can get that right even when he's buggered he'll be even more of an asset. You could tell Joe was completely out of gas by the end. He was trying to chase but could only run straight lines - changing direction it was like watching the Queen Mary 😂

Our boys stopped taking the game on and the game pretty much petered out.
The work was done and time for Round 1.

At the game live tonight it stood out like dog's you know what that Dan Mcstay needs to have front position in marking contests when he can. The amount of times he tried to contest from behind he gave a few free kicks away but when he was in front geez he looked dangerous and i thought he played a very good game tonight. Seems to be more comfortable leading and jumping for the ball from the front position rather than trying to body or push an opponent under the ball as he gave away free kicks for pushing. Well played Dan tonight.

I assume the game will be uploaded to the Lions website?
As it's an official game, probably not, but the replay should be on afl.com.au usually a while after the actual game. The Blues/Dees game already is.

Aaaaaand we're the ones that played super hard and took it seriously? ;)

This is great. Cheers. This caught my eye.

So this says we kicked 4-4 from between 40-50 metres. This is not bad - we'd like to be getting our looks a bit closer in, but whatevs, OK.

But the Bulldogs bombed away from outside 50 for 5.1. I'd be interested to compare this to other games and/or long term averages but I'd be guessing that is a relatively high number of shots AND unusually accurate. To me it says that our defensive structures were pretty good and we forced them to take those long shots more often than normal. It may also say our pressure across half forward wasn't quite what it could have been, but maybe you can't have both sound defensive structures and strong pressure on the ball carrier(s) across half forward

Lies, damn lies, statistics.

So with the injuries to Kiddy, Dev and Jimmy are we looking at 4-6 weeks for each? Unknown at this stage I guess, depends on severity. I just hope they aren't rushed and given time to heal properly. Biggest loss is Kiddy, looked poised to take our defense to the next level. Sees Answerth a lock for hb, Prior or Ah Chee might get the bench spot for a back round 1. I'm assuming this game doesn't count for Wilmot's suspension otherwise he could've got a shot. Round 2 for him maybe. I hate preseason injuries so much.

Zorks, Gardiner and Rayner to come in, but I guess Rayner is the only certainty depending on how the other two come up. Gardiner's injuries just seem to linger.

Looks like our depth is going to be tested early. It will be very interesting to see who stands up in the ressies trial match.

Watching the replay now. My God, David King's understanding of the basic rules is simply appalling. His ignorant commentary fuels the confusion that fans have with the rules of the game.

I'm very tempted to hurl eggs at his house after his 'analysis' of the Lyon holding the ball (he lives a few doors down to me).

Mate, he f***in handballed it i.e. he disposed of it correctly. Prior opportunity is irrelevant you dipsh*t.

The AFL Fantasy number is a joke.
