Serious question and it's not a dig, why the F did you let Mitchell go he is destroying it tonight

Tonight's performance doesn't really matter, the club always knew he was a good player. I suppose they just wanted to develop some new midfielders while Mitchell and Lewis were not going to be part of our next Top 4 push?

It was a bit of an altruistic move by Clarko to let him and Lewis go seek out much better deals than Hawthorn were prepared to give them.

Also there have been suggestions that Mitchell and Lewis were quite vocal in team meetings (as expected given their standings) and that it may have been stifling the football and leadership development of our youth as they wouldn't feel comfortable enough to speak up.

The real question is: why the F did we let Mitchell go for so little?

Because, among other reasons mentioned, it allowed us to go under the cap this year so we could have a war chest to go after free agents. Also, he was 34. It's not like Sydney letting go of a 23 year old Tom Mitchell to keep downhill skiers like Luke Parker and Gary Rohan.

Temporary insanity is the only explanation as far as I am concerned. Have heard all the reasons and none of them stack up for me so I honestly don't know. You will get some explanations from others with a different POV though.

Gibson, Burgoyne and Hodge signed up for much less salary late last year and when Hawks got the ok call from both Tom Mitchell and Jagaer, Clarko I believe, panicked a little as then we were getting squeezed in the cap so with Sammy already signed up much earlier in the season on good coin the only chance we had was that he was traded without holding WCE for ransom and Jordan was already contracted on high salary so Clarko felt it would be better if he went and played elsewhere on a better , longer deal so Gold Coast was mentioned (with coaching option added) but baulked. the killer part is that when Tyrone was available Clarko got trigger happy and wanted him at the club as with Ceglar out long term and not knowing the situation with Roughy at the time, he felt we needed a Ruck/Forward to help Big Boy. If we don't get Tyrone Vickery then Jordan most likely stays!! This is the explanation I got from 'someone' not at Hawthorn but in club land so take it for what it is it may or may not be correct.

Clarko has said on numerous occasions that we had money to fit Lewis and Mitchell under the cap this year. We would have known both O'Meara and Mitchell were coming a long time before October - no matter what Jaeger said about that in his opening press conference.

clarko CANT say we got rid of club champs to fit Ty and Jagaer in, it looks and sounds awful to the rest of the playing group. he isn't been quite honest there imo, we did a 'Fire Sale' to make room in the cap. the other 3 veterans survived because they took the pay cuts.

List management isn't done in a panic like you make out. Things changed when our straight sets exit and lacklustre season demonstrated that bringing in Jaeger and Mitchell wouldn't paper over the cracks and give us a run at a final flag in this era. Being that we're currently under the cap would demonstrate that we had the room for Mitchell and Lewis to stay.

The players would also have a decent understanding of the reality of what's going on also and wouldn't need Clarko to make public statements to deceive them. Players mostly aren't Rhodes scholars but they're also not completely daft to the internal workings of the club.

Does anyone know why I can never find the latest BUPA injury report on the Hawks' website?

They're updated on Tuesday afternoons, but I can never find them..

Had a chance to observe some of the Sydney kids training for their regular Aussie Rules sides last night. There were probably about 60-80 kids out there in different age groups. Naturally, they don their favourite team jumper to train in. The really odd thing, though, was that the most common team jumper was not Sydney Swans. It was Fremantle Dockers. Who would have believed that? In Sydney, of all places.

I don't watch many football panel shows, but I'm watching AFL 360 at the moment..

My question is one you have probably already asked...how does this idiotic drunk get a gig on TV?

HAWTHORN has been decimated on the injury front in one fell swoop with three key players all facing significant time on the sidelines.

Champion small forward Cyril Rioli suffered a significant PCL injury against the Brisbane Lions last Saturday and is facing 8-12 weeks out of the side.
