I'm not sure exactly what happened today. You are a better team than that. I think everyone can see that. Things just aren't working at the moment for what ever reason.

On a side note, obviously there is massive speculation about Hooker coming to you guys. Do you think he is the player you need at the moment? I kind of want him to leave so hopefully we get a comp pick in the first few picks. But I'm not sure he is the answer.

agree but what do we have to lose this season? perhaps consistent gametime will get a better result than going in and out of the side. find out definitively

Stupid errors aside, I didnt think Tabs actually played that poorly...wasnt the worst of them anyway.
Was equal second highest for Uncontested possessions so is getting into space....Needs time to get the "feel" into his game. hard to get some consistency when he is in then out. Nothing to lose by seeing if he can develop with more games under his belt....

People still being far too harsh on Tabs.

He stuffed up more than a couple of times today but he also gave us a very good target moving the ball out of defense. Took 8 marks and had 18 disposals, which is what a real CHF (his natural position) should do. Our future setup has him as the high forward and Apeness as the deep forward.

Brady Grey and Crozier showed why our selection policy has been way off for a long time. Both should have played many more games than they have.

Applaud that you continue to look for positives for Taberner but at crucial times he could not hit a open target from 20 metres away. He is too dangerous to our team to play more than 15 metres from our goal. I genuinely don't know how he would ever get a game again.

he is not the answer to our depth issues but we need good players to role model for the next group. his age does worry me though. the powers that be will weigh it up

I am sure Hooker will end up at Hawthorn, unfortunately for Essendon this may mean he has to accept less money ( and your selection number goes down) but why wouldn't you as a player, try for a premiership.

After the way we played I actually think it's better we lost... There can be no illusions to how bad we currently are.

I think that we should up speed the kids, forget about the rest of the season and determine who is going to make the cut at the end of the season.

The cuts should be harsh and every player should be considered for trade if the deal is right.

Everyone should be subject to a full review including our coach and if people need to be fired then do so. Damn the cost.

We need to turn this disaster into our advantage. High draft pics and the determination to cut players such as Barlow, Mayne, D.Pearce, Suban, Mzungu, Hannath, Griffin etc, etc, etc.

We also need to give Pav a break on away games and upskill rookies so that we can see who can kick goals. Personally, I would like to see Smith get an extended run at FF. Uber also shows a lot of promise so When his tank is better give him a good run.

Funny enough, going through 2001 with us being 0-18 has prepared me well for this day. The fall however has been an unprecedented Epic Fail!

Today was atrocious.

That said this highlights how massive Fyfe was at the start of last year. Was easily the best 10 game stretch of any players in the history of the game.

Sandilands was also epic and Mundy worked his way into it when Fyfe started to fade.

Make no mistake and it's very likely a hindsight call but we were clearly carried beyond our capabilities last year.

Johnson looks a shadow of himself, Walters is having to play out of position and we are simply a rabble right now.

Play the kids. This year clearly has to be about getting some games into some youngsters.

So very disappointed right now.

I try to keep an eye on Pearce, Weller and Grey as they're from the same part of the world as me (NW coast of Tassie) and I played against a couple of them, how do you guys think they played today? From the bits and pieces I saw it looked like Grey was killing it, Lachie was having his best game and A.Pearce struggling down back a bit.

Hope things get better for you guys.

Yeah Grey and Weller started great but faded a bit which is expected for young players, Alex went alright, just found himself out of position a couple of times. Excellent below his knees for a big guy and should continue to cement his spot down back.

I think Hughes and Blakely will get a look in next week which is a bonus. It's good seeing the young blokes run out for freo at least.

Changes vs Carlton:

This, and as a few others have said I don't think we should be thinking "yay draft picks" just yet. Bottom 4 is still a shite year for fans, for player development and for convincing anyone come trade time that we're the place to be.

We've looked better each game if only in patches so even bringing in new players some wins are coming and if it's a choice between finishing 7 - 8th and getting pick 11/12 or finishing 10 - 11 and pick 8/9 I'll still take finishing the year with finals experience.

I'm happy to finish middle order if that's what it takes to set this team up going forward. The absolute given though is wherever we end up it has to be by finding out how many of our young players are ready to play AFL.
