The thing that worries me most is that after 5 games this season + 3 in NAB I still can't tell what our gameplan is or even highlight a quarter where we executed it well. We got thumped against WB, had a shootout against NM and GC, played a more defensive game-plan against WC and yesterday we just imploded. At Collingwood you can see they are trying to employ zonal defence (and failing terribly), at St Kilda they have that high pressure game, what have we got?

Surely at some point in the pre-season the coaches noticed that whatever they were trying to do wasn't getting across/the players didn't have the ability to execute it. All well and good to throw the youngsters in and I agree with most of those calls but you have to have something for them to play to or you are just wrecking their development. Just can't fathom how we have gone from one of the best teams in the comp to probably the worst.

We are one of the best team with assumption of pav,Sandi, fyfe, this type of core player stay injuries free.

I just watched the first quarter. Some thoughts:

Skills were abysmal.
Complete inability to hold marks. Griffin and Clarke were absolutely shitful.

Alex Pearce did some great things but got outbodied twice and those lost contests cost two goals.
Neale: worst quarter I've ever seen him play.

Poor decision making. Case in point Carlton's second goal. Griffin runs out of defence. Fyfe is 20 meters in the clear. Griffin kicks to Mayne in a two on one. Goal to the opposition.

Taberner had a great first quarter. Took some marks, kicking was good, split a contest with Weitering which should've resulted in a goal but was missed by our guy running in.
Hill misses easy running goal yet again.
Weller I'd like to be more selfish. Running into 50 he looks to pass always as the first option. Kick the goal son.

Carlton flooding and because we run back so far, we look up and have no one to kick too.

I attend training so see some of that and I completely agree with this. I will add that in the NAB although we won all 3 games we were a very low scoring team, so no evidence of a new attacking game plan there, and yesterday, in the last quarter when we needed to score we had everyone in Carlton's forward 50 and no ability to get the ball out and move it forward, just like our defensive game plan. There seems to be no consistent game plan and it must be very hard for the young'uns to slot in.

All I know right now is at training they do the training drill kicking ,handball. In match simulation the best 18 will be in one side, and the rest the other with casual pressure involve.rookie pick all treat like an outsider apart from mora.

Second quarter: still absolutely no intensity.

Decision making and skills abysmal.
Curnow's goal resulted from a passage of play starting from a poor umpiring decision and a free against Dawson. He should've received the free.

Mayne centering the ball into a nest of Carlton players. WTAF are you doing you muppet?
Neale fluffing yet another short kick.

Grey was outstanding other than the shot on goal and Tucker should've kicked a goal.

Taberner wasn't massively involved but split a two on one contest and then gathered and hand balled out to a running team mate.
His first half was solid.

Griffin and Clarke horrible.

Hill probably our best.
Danyle working really hard but Fcuk me he's as thick as shit with the ball in hand

he went off and got a jab then came back on in the 2nd half, seemed to be moving freely.

saw him standing next to his opponent, went to move and jumped up in pain. Didn't look good.
there's a patch of concrete and astro-turf. he fell on that bit.
 ouch. And we think Etihad's surface is bad

Third quarter was honestly some of the worst football I have ever seen.

Taberner made potatoes look less so with those two turnovers.
Barlow misses Pav by 3 meters on a twenty meter pass...how do you manage that?
Weller gets the free then misses the goal. Crozier misses an easy one than nails the harder one after the siren.

That Thomas goal where we had no one on the goal line? What do you say to that? Under 8's would do better.
Hill misses another on the run...at least he had the crack and should be told to keep doing it.

Weller let his man run off him which wasn't good.

Just horrible.
They're so lacking in spirit...be tempted to take them all to the pub and just relax a bit...
They need a release valve.

I'm sure Ross wants to throw his lap top out the window....

Don't watch the last qtr its a nightmare, Carlton didn't know how to win and we were frozen with fear of losing.

In 30+ years of watching football, the 3rd 1/4 was the worst 1/4 of football I have ever had the misfortune of watching. Not just from us, but from Carlton as well. We were lucky Carlton matched us in the dismal stakes otherwise we would have been 10+ goals down at 3/4 time and deserved to be.
(And I remember Round 21 1981 South Freo v West Perth ;)!!!!)

Ok so this season is a ride off. Does everybody agree the following players need to go? Ballantyne, Dawson, C Pearce, D Pearce, Taberner, Barlow, Mayne, De Boer, Suban, Mzungu, Clarke, Johnson, Sandilands and we know Pavlich is retiring. Need to get top end picks and not old slow players that skills are up to wafl standard

What exactly happened to Fyfe? I watched the video and he was tackled over the line. Couldn't see how he was hurt.
Just heard that Fyfe has a fractured leg and is heading to Melbourne for an operation.
Injuries to good players really suck. :(

Jeesh.

We have no Mundy, Sandi, Fyfe, Bennell. If you take the best four midfielders out of any side and they will struggle.

At least the kids are getting some exposure. We need to drop any player who has had an extended run at it but is still failing to perform.
