I agree with the sentiments of what Barlow needs to do but I too am hearing that he is really putting in at pre season.

A long way for Barlow to prove what he needs to do but right now he can only do what is being asked and that is put in at pre season - than he needs to play Ruck Rover in the pre season stuff and show he's got some hard winning ball ability added to his running game and use both of them.

I am being serious. Shaw, Malceski, Kennelly and Mattner all offer roughly the same style of football to the team. With all of them at their best, Mattner is 4th in line. Injury problems will probably still give Mal and Kennelly problems but if everyone is fit, Shaw is the only certainty based on last seasons form.

B:??? - LRT - ???
HB: Shaw - Bolton - ???
C: O'Keefe - Kirk - ???
HF: Jack - Goodes ???
F: White - Bradshaw - ???
R: Seaby - McVeigh - Bolton
INT: Mumford - ??? - ??? - ???

Certainies are named, all the other spots are up for grabs imo.

I would play Mattner ahead of Malceski any day of the week. As for Kennelly coming into the side, don't expect to see him play off half-back like in previous years. Roosy was on SEN this morning and said that hey may play on a wing, or even up on a half-forward flank.

Mattner will remain in the defensive half. His versatility and long kicking are a much needed strength in the team.

Yeh this is bloody tough to pick a 22 now. So much depth and it is only a good thing.

Ill give it another go:

F: Veszpremi Bradshaw White
HF: Jack Goodes Bevan
C: ROK McVeigh Shaw
HB: Kennelly LRT Mattner
B: Smith C.Bolton Grundy
R: Seaby Kirk J.Bolton

I/C from: Mumford, Richards, Bird, Kennedy, Hannebery, Malceski, McGlynn

In the 2's: O'Dwyer, Meredith, Barlow, Moore, Thornton, Currie, Johnston, Pyke, Orreal, Gilchrist, Gordon, our new boys including our 2 1st round draft picks

A lot of talent in the 2's based on this. **** IM SO EXCITED FOR NEXT YEAR.

EDIT: Forgot McGlynn. He comes onto the bench for O'Dwyer, now i just cannot pick a bench, too hard.

Not to mention that you left out McGlynn too. There is going to be quite a battle for the last few spots in the midfield rotation.

Thats a pretty awesome looking team. I actually am a little depressed we probably wont see much of so many of the guys next year unless there are injuries. :( I dont think Hanners will start the year IC will probably be mumford, richards, kennedy and McGlynn.

That's the way it always goes though, unless you are Melbourne and are forced to play youngsters because there is no one else. I'd rather be in our position.

I definitely see us as having a squad that is good enough to be in the finals next season.

I absolutely would prefer to be in this position its just a shame thats all. Will still be able to watch them run around in the ressies so all is good.

Not going to be easy is it?

B: Grundy Roberts-Thompson Richards
HB: Shaw C Bolton Mattner
C: O'Keefe McVeigh Kenneally
HF: Jack White Goodes
F: Bevan Bradshaw J Bolton
FOLL: Seaby Kirk Kennedy
I\C: Mumford Bird Veszpremi
Hanneberry

EMG: Malceski Moore McGlynn

Midfield seems to have a plethora of options and a handy mix of younger types and hard nuts to boot!

Personally I like the idea of Goodes and White leading around the HF line taking 2 quality defenders and opening the square for Bradshaw (assuming of course) and a cetrne line packed with some pace. :thumbsu:

Can't wait for Rd 1 :)

Good team. I would make a couple of changes. I would replace Bevan with McGlynn in the forward line (leaving Bevan in defence) and bring in Richards for Hanneberry. Richards is a lock in our best 22.

It would be easier to regurgitate the popular picks in positions, but that doesn't invoke much discussion IMHO.

I've had to "drop" 1 Bevan, so I slotted Richards into defence leaving Bevan up forward.
I just think he looked really handy there at times last year.
Best of all, by having to drop 1 Bevo I could keep Hanneberry!
I think this year will be vital for Jack and Bird's progressions, as well as Hanneberry's development.

Yep good option Syd. It is no secret i love Bevan and love the idea of him playing as a permanent forward playing the role NOG did. He is PERFECT for the role.

I CANNOT WAIT TIL 2010.

I'll have a crack

B: Grundy, Roberts-Thompson, Smith
HB: Richards, C Bolton, Mattner
C: O'Keefe, McVeigh, Shaw
HF: Jack, Goodes, Kennelly
F: Veszpremi, Bradshaw, White
FOLL: Seaby, Kirk, J Bolton

Leftovers: McGlynn, Bevan, Malceski, Barlow, O'Dwyer, Meredith, Moore, Thornton, Currie, Johnston, Pyke, Orreal, Gilchrist, Gordon, our new boys including our 2 1st round draft picks

I really wanted to put McGlynn, Bevan, Moore and our Pick 6 in it but there is no room. Lucky Ablett is gone because he just made it even harder to choose a team. Unless someone is injured/suspended/isn't performing. I could take out Vespa and Smith but they are one of my favourite players. Selectors will have a massive headache.

I don't see a spot for Vez at the moment. He hasn't really done anything of note yet and has to put in some performances for the ressies. I like Jack as our crumbing forward. Like the idea of Bevan in the forward line as well.

I'll have a crack... personally, i really rate McGlynn as a player. I saw one hawks game this year where in the first quarter he was dominating play.

B: Richards C. Bolton LRT
HB: Mattner Grundy Shaw
C: Kennelly Kirk O'Keefe
HF: Jack Goodes McGlynn
F: White Bradshaw McVeigh
R: Seaby Kennedy J. Bolton
Int: Mumford Bird Bevan Hannebery

Emg: Vezspremi Rohan Malceski

Its a really good sign that everyone is having trouble coming up with a round 1 team as it means we have good depth.

I'd go with

B: Grundy, Roberts-Thompson, Smith
HB: Richards, C Bolton, Mattner
C: O'Keefe, McVeigh, Shaw
HF: Jack, Goodes, Kennelly
F: Bevan, Bradshaw, White
FOLL: Seaby, Kirk, J Bolton
I\C: Mumford, Bird, Kennedy, Veszpremi

Its a very similar team to swans16 but with a couple of minor changes. I really do want to see Bevan play as a small forward next season.

I disagree on Richards. I don't think he's a lock. Certainly, he should be pushing for selection if he's healthy, but a lock? No.

I want Hannebery in the 22 from preseason, he's a future star.

Wishful thinking. Pretty sure he will stay in Ireland.

Im loving the look of our list. If injuries dont bite us in the arse too badly, we're gonna have 10-13 players (including the 3 emergencies) in the 2's in whom i would be well and truly confident of them playing in the seniors.
