FWIW - it was Jamison doing all the talking.
I worked with his father for a couple of years. If he's anything like his old man, he would've made an excellent captain (excluding the injuries).

Not really. Ask the die hard supporters and they know exactly where he is at fitness wise. As you can see from this forum, there are lots of people who have no idea. Murph hasn't had a great run with injuries over the past few years. He pinged his calf during an intra club game and hasn't fully recovered / match fitSitting next to my missus (Carlton supporter), watching the game last night.
My place turned into the House of the F Word.
Murphy and Yarran came under particular criticism, from my perspective their disposal in particular was woeful.
The missus has had enough of Murphy, is this an opinion shared by most Carlton supporters?
She's a member as well so she puts her money where her mouth is.
Ill be blunt in where I think the real issue in Carlton's list development and drafting is - The messiah complex.
When Judd came in he was going to make Gibbs and Murphy elite players. When Warnock came in he was going to be Sandilands 2.0. When Thomas came in he was going to be the missing piece of a top 4 charge.
.
Playing Jaksch forward might be worth trying, kicked a great goal close to the boundary. Also I don't think Bell is a midfielder and plays better as a half forward.Play Jaksch forward, White back.
Drop two out of Curnow, Carazzo and Bell.
Cripps, Bell, Curnow, Carazzo and White in the same midfield just doesn't work.
Cripps has only played 4 games and needs to be persisted with.

A few looked slow and confused last night.I don't know with Bell. He looked really slow last night.
What do you think happened Aph?

SOS passed on Wingard for 2 reasons -
1. Wingard said as clearly as AFL rules allowed, that he would leave GWS as soon as his contract was up.
2. Port agreed to trade Cornes and Brogan for nothing on the proviso that GWS let Wingard slide.
Both count as draft tampering but it happens every year.

I think Mick has actually done well to curb these expectations and get a better balance in the squad overall but it means he is left with too many similar types as seen last night.
You cant carry both Carrazzo and Curnow on the inside with Judd and Cripps. White and Everitt cant both be taggers.
Personally I would play Curnow inside, Everitt outside.
Drop Carrazzo and Jaksch (unlucky) and play White as the third tall defender while bringing Casboult in as the forward/ruck.
Smith now knows the level he needs to reach. Put him back in the two's and give Buckley his chance. Can't run the risk of him being forced to play 3/4 of a game.
Boekhorst comes in for Daisy as that hard running hff/wing.
You're 22 last night read better than theirs so the failing is either coaching, structural or mental. For all the shit he cops Mick knows what he is doing so I can only put it down to the latter 2 issues.
Just an outsider's perspective.

She reckons captaincy doesn't sit well with Murphy and that he has more poor games than good ones.
I think that you could be right... the captaincy doesnt sit well with Murphy and it's affecting his games. I have seen a number of people who have had the captaincy thrust upon them only to lose all semblance of form despite the fact that they are top class sportsmen and women. My missus is a diehard supporter (member).

My issue with Murphy is he is not vocally strong enough to be an effective captain of the club. The team has shown it can play very good footy but it has also shown it can also lapse into mediocrity. We need an extroverted captain (and leadership group) to give them a proper kick up the backside and get them back on track.Sitting next to my missus (Carlton supporter), watching the game last night.

So true! Of those in the squad who would we replace him with? Juddy clearly was never comfortable with it. So many of our stars are introverts and as a professional footy team there is a downside to that IMO.I think that you could be right... the captaincy doesnt sit well with Murphy and it's affecting his games. I think that if he was to hand back the captaincy and just concentrate on his football, we might see a much improved Murphy running around again.
The biggest problem is that we need someone to replace him... someone that we dont have right now!
You are spot on the money! The problem is the club and the coach have in the lead up to the 2015 season pushed a series of messages: strong pre-season, sound draft picks, renewed energy and the players knowing that it is THEY who have to achieve their potential. What happened last night was little different to many games in the past decade or so! We are rebuilding and it would be better for the club to temper their messages to fans and the footy public.wow.. some people on here need to relax a little.. round 1 and all.
Reality is Carlton were never likely to play finals this year. The club is in the middle of a rebuild, which realistically will take at least another 2 seasons before it starts to deliver anything.
A lot needs to go Carlton's way over the next few seasons: recruitment, development, injuries, and a little luck
If that all comes together, contending for top 4 is a possibility
A flag? A double dose of what was just mentioned is needed
Can I ask a question...
Why almost every time we had a ruck set up did we allow Richmond to have two free outside players?
Same question I was asking all night. We got smashed on the outside.
We can't play Carrazzo, Curnow and Cripps in the same side either. We need more outside run
Introverts I dont mind in a sports team... so long as they turn into extraverts on the field. I know that when I was a youngster playing school footy, I was a shy retiring type off the field... and when I got on it, I was shouting instructions out to everyone. So true! Of those in the squad who would we replace him with? Juddy clearly was never comfortable with it. So many of our stars are introverts and as a professional footy team there is a downside to that IMO.
Gibbsy good except for the 3rd qtr clangers. Murphs OK until Tiges put the screws on him. The loss of Daisy in the first minute of the game unbalanced our rotations........however, good teams have the depth and poise to overcome these things. Sadly we continue to show that we don't.Docherty, Judd, Simpson tried their arses off . Docherty poise and quality.
Hendo not much impact but hard working, great chasing, same with Everitt & Curnow.
Yazz very restrained in first half, seemed to running more freely after he went off for injury break.
White run with Martin seemed strange Mick seemed happy.
Jones missed a sitter, showed glimpses. Jaksch too early to tell lacked confidence in his own ability, wonder what SOS thinks of his acquisition.
We looked so switched on for the first quarter very disappointing after that.
We lack a functional forward line and many players ball watching and running one way.
With turnover we've had we won't vie force for a least a couple of years.
The next 3 rounds will be telling! On the cards we could lose to both the Eagles and Bombers and given our record last year (in losing to 3 teams at the bottom of the ladder) the NZ match against the Saints is no gimme. You would think that one of Doc, Yarran, Simpson or Tuohy could play as a outside mid at least?
Move one of them up-field and bring in Buckley down back. White down back and drop two out of Curnow, Bell and Carazzo.
neat points! So how do we turn our guys into extroverts on the field? They have so much talent but other teams and players get the better of them far too often. SO FRUSTRATING!!!Introverts I dont mind in a sports team... so long as they turn into extraverts on the field. I know that when I was a youngster playing school footy, I was a shy retiring type off the field... and when I got on it, I was shouting instructions out to everyone.
I even managed to get out of a report of abusive language (I was in grade 6 at the time) towards an umpire because at the same time I was calling the umpire a ******* idiot, one of my team mates screwed up big time and so I was able to say that I was expressing disappointment in my team mates efforts and got away with it
Didnt help much that the umpire (my phys ed teacher) knew exactly who I was talking to when I screamed out... but I got away with it
Great point!!You would think that one of Doc, Yarran, Simpson or Tuohy could play as a outside mid at least?
