On the First Crack or whatever the Fox show is they said that all except for one winner was at least three goals down at some stage in the game. So basically if q team is close enough, the game can swing hard. Us not taking advantage of our early dominance on the score board was the main issue. If we do that then there's no comeback. We have to sort that out or we'll have some frustrating losses.

Did the umpiring make you want to jump the fence and take matters into your own hands?
Nope far from it.

At 3 quarter time, i nearly did something i have never done when freo plays in SA or in any other freo game, not even in 2009 when freo kicked 1.7.13, and thats considering about leaving the game early.

Definitely felt like every game this round had a huge swing bar geelong essendon. Just glad we managed to claw back

Yes and then able to rebound the ball when it’s on the way out. He’s still one of the best kicks in the team. Don’t throw the babyout with the bathwater!
I think we play him higher up, make more space inside forward fifty and have him delivering

Hi guys, great win in Adelaide! Was Brodie injured for most of the 4th?

Reading lots of comments about Walters. He has been a great servant, so I don't want to cast him aside. JL does however need to be honest with him and ensure Walters is clear that his performances must improve as he is no longer a guaranteed starter.
I find it hard to believe that the coaching staff over the last 2-3 years haven’t pointed out his obvious floors as mentioned here weekly. The playing for free kicks, going to ground & lack of second efforts are getting painful to watch.

He still has enough smarts to impact games, but he just can’t seem to get out of these bad habits & surely they are being pointed out at the reviews. If not, then the coaches are not doing their job & additionally I’d love to see a player call him out during the course of a game.

The great Hawthorn teams last decade would not have put up with it.

I was prepared to forgive last year as he had an interrupted preseason, but the rhetoric coming out of the club this year was it was his best preseason in many years. Very worrying.

Mum and dad just moved to Perth, this month, from Adelaide. Today was their first game adopting Freo as their local "port" side.

What better induction for them, with Freo beating the Crows by 1 point!

Better than a servant he’s been a star, club legend IMO. Otherwise I agree, and this is a test of JL’s mettle.

Not many people realise this is Walters 14th season with the club. Many of our best former players averaged around 10-12 seasons, only freaks like Pav, Mundy, Macca and Sandi were in the 15+ zone.

And Sonny had 8 unbelievable seasons at his peak - 2012-2019.

But he's fading and we may get to a point when selecting him is pure charity. I just hope he can alter his game on some level to remain effective, because he just can't gain a foot of space to do anything of value anymore.

Prove us all wrong SonSon.

But who replaces him though? Colyer? He’s about the same age. Western? He’s not close to AFL material. Hard one

I wouldn’t replace him yet, but we have Fyfe Tabs and Darcy to come in, Sturt at some point, Walker, Erasmus, fortunately we’re not short of options. Would need to restructure a little but someone like Erasmus can play HFF. But like FD2646 said I’d rather challenge him first and look for a response than drop him right now.

Won against corrupt umpiring and swung momentum back impressively, great defence at the end, great win.
Was it corrupt or was it incompetent?
I’m genuinely baffled but one thing I do know , it was terrible.

Chapman is a legend, and the umpiring was an absolute disgrace, but we shouldn't have ever put ourselves in that position. The game should have been iced by half time.

Three things stood out to me above all else today.

  1. Our midfield depth is thin and the loss of Cerra is really going to hurt us in the short to medium term - We need to fast track the development of Erasmus, Johnson and O'Driscoll if we're serious about reaching finals regularly and not just making up numbers. Mundy is likely in his last year, and although Fyfe is a champion, he's now 30+, injury prone, and hasn't played a full season for a few years now. We can't be relying on these guys to take us forward.
  2. Liam Henry is an enigma - What do we do with him? For me, he fits into the above group of young players that we need to pump games into, but for a third year player who's had a full pre-season this year and was given a string of games in the AFL last year, I expect more production from him than what he showed today. If he doesn't make big inroads before the end of the year, alarm bells should start ringing.
  3. If the forward line isn't fixed promptly, this rebuild is doomed to fail - Year after year this has been an issue. The club tells the public that they've been addressing it internally, and lo and behold it's the same sh*t again and again. Well I'm sick of it. The drafting of Amiss was a good start, but we need more natural forwards playing in our forward line. It's an indictment on our club that they haven't done more to rectify this from a personnel perspective, and still we have a guy like Banfield running around who (through no fault of his own) is clearly not a forward and isn't up to playing that role. You only have to look at Rachele today to see how the addition of even a single elite talent can change the dynamic and class of a forward line. I get that we've spent the last 6 years rebuilding from defense and midfield first, but the forward line has been neglected for far too long. If Sturt & Treacy are fit and available, they both have to play in the 1st's. I'm a big fan of Shultz, and although Switkowski offers a lot up the field, he needs to stay in the F50 and be that crumbing small forward we need. Make no mistake, the length of our premiership window is going to be determined by how long it takes for us to address this specific issue.

Umpires held sacred. Why can't they have 10 minutes as a panel after the game to be asked why they made decisions. ******* bunch of blind dogs.
Surely, surely there have to be some questions and learnings from that debacle. ?

I’m sure he will. Could go either way for Sonny. Push on like Mundy if he improves and plays a valuable part or be pushed out if it isn’t for the advantage of the club just like Conca after about around 8 last year.

One thing in his advantage is his exquisite skills - like that early lace out foot pass to Lobb. I don’t like how easily his being brushed aside. The way both he and Henry are being bushed aside is a liability having them both. Switta used to be the same but he has worked on his technique and isn’t ao easily brushed off.
